Breaking Bad: Pilot (2008)
Season 1, Episode 1
10/10
Stunning and riveting pilot
5 August 2013
Absolutely intense, unpredictable and creative. Novel premise, challenges perception of what can be done in television, and draws the viewer into heightened awareness. It's the only show I can recall which demanded my attention within the first seconds. The show takes such a hold that it feels like being on the drug in question.

I wish the show had stopped at the end of the 3rd or 4th season, it was SO good. The early episodes were experimental and, as I understand from various interviews, relatively low budget. This combination some times encourages the best work, and the first few seasons reflect this. Corporate sponsors weren't present, unlike later seasons. It shows.

Breaking Bad: Gliding Over All (2012)
Season 5, Episode 8

Garbage
5 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
The characters introduced in season 5 are poorly developed, uninteresting and seem to have been written in to hasten plot development since the end of the series is near. The earlier characters were MUCH richer, incorporated more interesting plot angles and dialogue, etc. Compare Tuco, Jane, Combo, even Ken the lawyer to Lydia, Todd, etc. The new characters are lame.

How convenient that Todd's relative (uncle) knows hit men on the inside of all of those institutions who can operate in that fashion. Killing ten at the same time is nonsense, I'm sorry. I can allow for Walter pulling off some borderline impossible acts but having the entire season depend on a constant string of them is tedious and unbelievable, in the real sense of the word. The train thing in the Dead Freight episode is thoroughly stupid.

I sincerely wish the show had stopped either at the end of season 3 or 4. It was an excellent show in its early seasons but has really softened over time. There are still some great moments but the show has lost its focus.

It's a shame to see a great series fall apart
4 August 2013
Robbing a train, seriously? I loved seasons 1 through 3, felt considerably less enthusiastic about 4, and find season 5 almost unwatchable. This episode has the feeling of pushing too hard, from the writing to the acting. The characters are being transformed from those with whom we can relate to some sort of invincible action heros. It's genuinely stupid.

Sorry, I can suspend disbelief for some of what the characters have done over the series but this is absurd and unbelievable. If you seriously consider the technical know-how required to pull off the train stunt, this episode shows itself as absolutely weak.

Breaking Bad should have stopped at the end of season 4, if not sooner. The show has become grandiose and has over-reached. I absolutely LOVED seasons 1 - 3 for their novelty, ingenuity, writing and acting. I agree that it was the best show in the last 20 years but only in relation to the first three or four seasons.

Breaking Bad: Fifty-One (2012)
Season 5, Episode 4

Brought to you by Chrysler Corporation
4 August 2013
Season 5 is awful. Product placement has REALLY become an issue, with Chrysler occupying the greatest amount of ad space.

Samsung, Whistle Pig, Xbox 360, etc, all given their ad spots.

The show is nowhere near as interesting as it was in the first three seasons, which is a shame because it was one of the best shows in TV history.

It's a bit sad to me that people review season 5 as being in the same class as 1 - 4.

The show has moved from a fairly credible premise into an over-written and ludicrous story with mediocre writing, less interesting characters, etc. In time, I think the later seasons will be the counterpart to Godfather 3.

Great Performances: Michael Moschen in Motion (1991)
Season Unknown, Episode Unknown
Another class of human being
26 September 2004
Michael Moschen is a nearly perfectly focused individual who observes the shapes and potential mobile nature of myriad geometrically interesting objects and proceeds to design unmatched performances around them. Really phenomenal stuff.

Moschen is informed in areas including mathematics and performance art (he's collaborated with Cirque du Soleil), has worked as a fire fighter and street performer, etc. In this film, he points to various areas from which he draws inspiration. The Elgin Marbles from the Parthenon, I believe, and his family life are among them. Moschen is truly an inspiring man.

I am intrigued by many things in life and follow an epicurean path. I have seen many beautiful and fascinating things both in the States and in other Continents. I am a very discerning man and not easily convinced by much of what titillates human attention. Michael Moschen is actually something of a hero to me. He's just that good.

Rare are those who retain child-like fascination with the world but who mature and identify their creative role in the process of existence. Moschen is one such creature. Truly profound and amazing. I feel honored to be one of the lucky few who know of his work. Check him out.

Family Ties (1982–1989)
argument for annihilation
31 August 2004
Pure, unadulterated dung. Actually, that's naysaying the inestimable values of cow manure. At least with manure we're granted fertilizer and, in turn, sustaining nutrition in the form of vegetables. Family Ties offers no such reward.

Just plain old poop on a plank. Truth be told, I think this show's so worthless it's a hybrid sort of dung, not even worthy of drawing flies. It just sits there.

This show is utterly devoid of authentic living. Yeah, sure, it reminds of your "life". Kind of reminds me of elements of my childhood, too. Man, we've been deluded for many years. The show (and your life?) bears little resemblance to reality. So ridiculously cozy. God, the growing pains indicated by the plots of this show are such baby food.

Comparisons to All in the Family are ridiculous. The only similarity is that they both reflected the American way particular to their time. At least Michael Stivic was pre-dumb-disillusioned hippy. The father and mother on Family Ties approached mongoloid.

I had forgotten about the goofy heartthrob character. Every show had to have a Scott Baio in those days, except much dumber. The clown on Family Ties just about took the cake. Yeah, they really scored with this moron.

I won't even begin to discuss Courtney Cox. I'd had no idea she'd been on this show. Jesus, the 80s were such a breeding ground for virulence. Those disgustingly cheerful faces became our later impish, MINIMALLY talented heroes of today. Janet Jackson anyone?

I wish they all would have followed the path of Arnold from Diff'rent Strokes and become security guards cum California governor candidates against Arnold Schwarzenegger. He's the only one from that time I can appreciate at all.

Family Ties (1982–1989)
American POOP
25 August 2004
Dear Lord, I knew it was a pile of dung but seeing Courteney Cox on the cast list, talking about confirming what one already knows. Yeah, I forgot about Scott Valentine's existence. What a shameful, sad remark on humankind. Darwin anyone? Evolution? You've got to be kidding.

This comment was just rejected on grounds that I must leave ten lines of text. I'm finding that a dreadful task. The show itself merits no such contribution so I'll just write of the trouble this is bringing me. Oh, woe, woe, woe, woe, woe!!!

Well, I thought the depth of my woe would satisfy the ten line requirement. What a nonsensical obligation. I mean, American Poop really said it all. There, eleven lines.
