The Wraith (1986)
A undiscovered cult classic
The Wraith is one of those movies that has seemed to go unnoticed by myself for most of my life. I discovered it via its soundtrack (which might be one o the best film soundtracks of all time) and was curious to see the movie.
In a lot of ways I can see why it was overlooked and never reached the cult status of its peers, its a little clunky and silly and sometimes its just out right weird.
But it has a whole load of charm and its so 80's that its hard not to love it. and I do.
Red Eye (2005)
A tight cool striped back thriller
An often over looked and very good two actor thriller.
Some excellent performances and one of Wes Cravens hidden little gems. Tense and thrilling if a little short.
An American Werewolf in Paris (1997)
An excellent horror comedy
This film just gets too much hate, for what is an excellent, in inferior, follow up to one of the best horror films of all time.
But that doesn't mean its not worth anything, in fact, its funny, romantic and has an interesting and uncliched story that receives hate based purely on it legacy.
Tom Everett Scott is great leading man and even the CGI (early cheap cg) does a good job when it's not in fully lit scenarios.
This has long been one of my favourite horror comedies and it will remain so.
The Head Hunter (2018)
Completely amazing bare horror
Made on a budget of 30K. The result is stunning.
A very Creepshow sequel tale set in the barbaric past that features a mysterious man on mission. What is he doing every night out there in the wilderness?
Well, thats part of the fun.
Worth the 72 minutes of runtime.
The Curse of Halloween Jack (2019)
Halloween Jack is back!!
Now its not secret that I'm a fan of campy, 80's inspired slashers.
Halloween Jack 2 really leans into the fun nature of the genre and as a result improves on the first title in every way.
Straw hats off to the performance of Nelson as the new Jack, he brings a menace to the new look version of the character.
Some inventive kills, which is really what a slasher needs, especially one involving a phone, but thats all I can say without spoiling anything.
All together a top effort from North Bank and I hope we can get some more from Halloween Jack in the future.
My Crazy Hand (2018)
A hilarious short film
I've been watching Molly Brown's work for about 5 years now and I always find her short films weird, funny and fascinating.
My Crazy Hand is probably my favourite so far and features an incredible and brilliant performance from Indie Horror regular Cy Henty as man who has a strange hand transplant.
The humour is, as always, fantastic, and this is one of her best works so far,
Sniper Corpse (2019)
An ambitious Indie Horror with big ideas
Caught this at Horror on Sea film feat following Jason Impey's fantastic Vipco Doc.
The film was extremely ambitious, telling a story of reanimated soldiers used by the government for their own nefarious purposes.
Despite the film slow budget, its a little rough around the edges perhaps, as most indie films are, the spirit and passion that went into is clear on screen and we found it be very enjoyable.
Maybe not for everyone, but if you are a fan of indie horror its certainly worth checking out.
