The Casino Job (2009)
Great "Guys Night" movie
We rented this movie and "21" as preparation for a trip to Vegas in a few weeks for our friend's wedding and bachelor party. We tried "21" first and got about, maybe, 30 minutes into it and had to shut it off. Too damn slow! How is a movie about Vegas that boring? So, we popped in this flick and, low and behold, it was damn good. Well, it certainly got us jazzed about going to Vegas anyway. We laughed our asses off in several spots, especially at the end and the movie makes you want to run out to Vegas and rob the casinos...or at least win big! My girlfriend is cool and would probably like it, but there is a lot of nudity, so bear that in mind if your girl isn't as cool as mine! I figure "21" probably cost $50 million to make and this film was probably $1 million and ten times better so I give it a big thumbs up.
21 (2008)
Yawn-fest!
I may not be entirely qualified to review this film since we only got about a half hour into it. How incredibly boring! I rented it with a bunch of friends and most of us were groaning fifteen minutes into it. A couple of the guys wanted to give it a shot, so we toughed it out for another twenty minutes and by then we were ALL ready to give up on it. If it weren't for the hot girl from Blue Crush, we probably wouldn't have lasted that long. The preview and box make it look like an exciting, Vegas action film, but it plays like at best a drama, at worst, a boring documentary with some good camera work. All the actors were solid and seemed to fit the roles, but that just didn't cut it. I don't know how true they kept to the real story, but maybe that was their problem. They should have spiced things up to make it fun...the story itself just wasn't interesting enough for a full length movie. A very strong pass from me.

What was he thinking?
I can't imagine what Be Stein was thinking when he decided to take on this project. Actually, even the most boring people in the world probably think they're interesting, so I guess a better question would be "What were the people who worked with him on this thinking"? The character Ben played in Ferris Bueller wan't an act! This guy is really that boring! I saw him on CNN once for a few minutes and couldn't believe he was that pathetic in real life! As though documentaries aren't boring enough, add a boring subject and most boring interviewer alive and guess what you get? He doesn't make any good arguments, any relevant points and is WAY out of his league when talking to the athiest author at the end. Ben tries to spin it like he 'won' the debate, but it wasn't even close and that with the benefit of being able to edit it in his favor. I guess Michael Moore is better at editing on top of everything else. Guys like Moore (who I don't like) and even Bill Maher and the Supersize Me guy are better at something like this because they have a sense of humor. The only think Ben Stein has to offer is a accurate imitation of a cadaver.
