Dumb and Dumber To (2014)
Just as good as the original. Honestly.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the magic is still there for the Dumb and Dumber crew, some 20 years on from the release of the original film. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels pick up right where they left off as Loyd and Harry in yet another road trip, this time in search of Harry's long lost (attractive) daughter in the hopes of convincing her to donate a new kidney to her dufus dad. But really, who cares about plot... is it funny? For my money: Yes, very.
'To' walks the dangerous ground of referring to the first film playfully yet without pandering, and continuing jokes that were funny enough the first time - and equally funny when revisited. I laughed more in this film than any other I've seen this year, a result I had not expected. Sadly I doubt this will go down as the classic the original has cemented itself as. Not necessarily due to the quality of the laughs themselves - more to the current climate of the viewing market itself. Nowadays the next film is a click away, back then it was a slog to your local Blockbuster. The original was aided by a time when the movies one watched repeatedly were the ones you physically owned as that was really your only immediate option - and lots of people owned Dumb and Dumber on VHS.
I have a strong suspicion Dumber and Dumber To will get even better with multiple repeat viewings, just as the original did in dorm-rooms and basements across the land throughout the 90s. Sadly, I doubt it will have such a luxury.
Box Elder (2008)
LOVE it
I absolutely loved this movie! I had never heard of it before my buddies and I watched it and we couldn't stop laughing. I'm fresh out of college and it made me want to go back and do it all over again...but better. The Marti Gras scene was awesome...had some great shots. I think it's a great showcase of what college is actually like but told in a humorous way. The situations the group gets into is so unique that Box Elder doesn't resemble just any other college humor type of movie. That shows the director has some real creativity, especially with the wit of some of the one-liners. I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants to reminisce on stupid moments of their own lives. I look forward to more movies like this one for sure.
