Moo-jeok-ja (2010)
One of the worst movies recently
I am a fan of Korean movies. Or so I thought after watching some of the legendary movies like the Vengeance Trilogy, Memories of Murder etc. However, it turns out, a lot of movies from Korea are just not for my taste as well.
Usually, I find that out pretty quickly, i.e. I don't bother watching love stories and comedies for teens. But this one looked like an action packed movie a la "The Good, The Bad and The Weird". Not quite.
It was a waste of a time. I wouldn't say it was amateurish in choreography or screenplay, I'd say it was terrible in terms of its script. Movie is so annoying, unbelievable. Like you know what stupid things one brother might do, and he ends up doing all of that. Also, script writing is so poor, that all these "gangsters" look more like high school gangsters than real life ones. Tears, crying, begging, pitying each other. A bunch of pathetic girlie gangsters => similarly pathetic movie.
4/10
Black Death (2010)
Decent, nothing more
I like historical movies. If they are thrillers/detectives to boot, even better.
But I felt the movie could have been 20-25 minutes shorter. And another thing that annoyed me, like most of the new movies, the shaky camera thing is a mess. Just how much do you need to shake to "make it realistic"? Hate it.
Another thing that annoyed me about this movie is that good 20 minutes of it is showing how this young monk is emotional and crying. Come on, you cannot show 1/6th of the movie a guy crying in a horror/thriller flick! The worst thing about it is that it's not even emotional for a viewer, I felt absolutely no pain or sadness watching those moments, it was annoying more than anything. Cry here, cry there, what the hell is this?
The Lovely Bones (2009)
Average
I like thrillers and detective movies a lot, and this movie seemed just exactly the type of movie I love. But it is only 50% thriller movie, hence is my mark given for it - 5/10.
What I didn't like about movie is that so much of time is spent on absolutely irrelevant parts which take up about an hour or so of the movie. Why make a two hour movie, half of which is just a family/drama? There was a possibility of making a good thriller, show more about the killer, his past crimes. Instead, it is about how mother goes to pick fruits somewhere, how some girl sees her, and boy likes her, and she likes taking pictures and much more which is drama/family type movie parts. I also hated the parts about afterlife. The heaven, the other girls, some places etc. Who has seen afterlife? Who has seen heaven? Nobody! Is it relevant? No! Then why bother showing it?
