Time (2021)
Time was a waste of Time
I tried to enjoy the first episode but Sean Beans character had the charisma of cold rice pudding. There was a minor character called Bernard it was the same actor Aneurin Barnard that was recently in the pact on the BBC drama the pact unfortunately he over acts in both of them. Then there is a scene when a prisoner threatens the prison guard that he knows the guards son is in another prison doing a sentence so tells the guard played by Stephen Graham he will arrange for the son to be looked after.
The guard says what do you want in return? Prisoner replies" I will let you
know "..I could not watch any more after that, obviously the guard would tell the prisoner to get lost, you get blackmailed once it would never stop. Very poor writing.
Billions (2016)
How the mighty have fallen
The first two series of this show was something completely different , you were brought into the exciting life of a billionaire playboy called Bobby Axlerod (played by Damien Lewis )that owns a hedge fund company. You saw how he makes his millions buys his sports cars and lives in a mansion in the Hamptons. However series 3 started to get stale with lots of annoying characters the main one been Taylor mason played by Asia Kate dillion.
What keeps the show going is Bobby axelrods shady dealings and his stand offs with Chuck Rhodes played by Paul Giamatti a US attorney. The problems started in series 3 most of the story lines are in Bobby's offices we rarely see he home ,it's all about share dealings.
I tried to get into series 4 but the script is weak ,boring and seems to have been written by 18 year olds. I am currently watching episode 10 I can't imagine I will watch another episode it's too irrating
Moonlight (2016)
utter garbage
I have just watched this film after it won the Oscars ,well the highlight of my evening was pausing the film to go out and get a quarter pounder, fries and a milk shake to eat while i watched the last 30 minutes. The film had one speed ,dead slow ,the sound was so bad i could not tell what was been said. The first part with the young boy and his mother was interesting and well acted, but should have picked up pace.I can only think because of the pressure to give films with black actors more awards that's why it won a Oscar, it should not have been nominated. maybe it was a mistake to have been . The film critics always give good reviews for films a lot of us end up not liking maybe they get back handers (payments). I am getting fed up of actors speeches praising men and women of colour ,or brown actors ,,does Leonardo Di Capro say ,,"i would like to thank the men and women of white for this award...its getting too much ..If you want to see a good film that will keep you watching all the time see Hell or high water or Deep water horizon ,
Gomorrah (2014)
very realistic , maybe better than sopranos
I have just watched episode 2 and I am addicted. Was not sure what to expect, I had not heard of the book or the 2008 film of the same name. After 10 minutes I could tell it was going to be well made, the setting in Naples in Italy ,the home of the camorra crime family,(changed to Gamorra by the author) and the base of the story came from a book written by Roberto savino , who lived in Naples. I say lived because at the moment he has had to move away with a bodyguard for all the fuss he has caused. His book was a best seller but that did not go down well with everyone especially the local mafia he wrote about. According to Savino the camorra nor dwarf"s the mafia of Sicily. In the first episode we get to meet the crew and family and are soon in the backstreet"s where deals are done and beatings are dished out. The story keeps you hooked ,although everything is spoken in Italian with English subtitles I instantly got into the show and remarked to a friend it was like watching a documentary rather than actors. The second episode carries on the excitement mixed with excellent acting and a strong script. I cant wait for episode 3, and would give a IMDb score of 9/10
Upside Down (2012)
Average at best
If you have nothing better to do, then go watch this film, its more romance than futuristic. The story is, there are two worlds a few hundred feet apart, one rich, one poor.A boy and girl meet ,become friends, then don't see each other for around 15 years. The sets are disappointing,CGI nothing special, the story moves at a slow pace.one thing in the film"s favour is the unusual story, which managed to keep me watching to the end.Kirsten Dunst looked as if she did not want to be in the film,or is just a bad actress? A actor called timothy spall has one of the lead roles,he was in a British TV series called Auf weidiesen pet filmed in the 80"s,and does a good job in this film, hopefully he will get some more big budget films. Its released in May i think in the UK,if you go expecting nothing special ,then you wont be disappointed
Battleship (2012)
$200 million gets you this?
This film is so bad i don't know where to start. The first 30 minutes are pointless and should have been cut.The acting is non existent,Rhiania is laughable,in fact after 40 minutes i thought it was a comedy and was expecting Leslie Neilsen to be the captain of the US fleet. It reminded me of the film Aeroplane,i did laugh out loud at Rhiania walking around trying to shout orders, but it was more of a squeaking mouse. The high ranking crew of the ship are aged 25-30,which looks wrong, there is 80"s top gun music all the time which is really annoying,How 200 million was spent on this garbage is anyones guess.I looks at what awards the film has got before viewing it,IMDb says 11,i thought that cant be right after seeing the bad reviews, and wondered if it was for razzes, sure enough, nominated nearly every award. If you like rubbish like Transformers then Battleship is for you,but if you are over 10 years old watch any over movie except this it would have to be better. Peter Berg hang your head in shame.
Cleanskin (2012)
confusing
I watched the film mainly because it was free on sky TV,expecting the usual Sean bean shoot em up,like Ronin,Beans character was the same but the story kept my interest ,i was pleasantly surprised. Then after around 30 minutes the story went back 3 years, hear we go,i thought ,why? but this did add to the story and soon went back to the present, however after about 20 minutes the film went back 6 years,it was at this point i had no idea what was happening and had lost the whole story of the film,i have watched 15 minutes more and its confused me so much i have turned it off. Why oh why do film do this, saw no need in the Bourne films which although not really the same genre as this,it was a story of secret agents etc. so to sum up, Confusing,a shame.
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011)
mission; to stay awake ,do you accept
The mission impossible series when it started in 1998 brought some good stunts and clever use of make up for the actors disguise"s,with a quick moving action in parts.Move forward to 2012 ,its the same but the stunts are so over the top its ridiculous,at the beginning of the film a spy jumps off a 10 storey building shooting at people and throws a box which inflates to a 10 metre wide stuntman type landing pad,(in the right landing place)and so the stunts began.next cruise find a old phone box that opens into a modern computer interface!no chance it would have needed servicing at some point and the secret found?the phone self destructs too!next cruise gets inside the Kremlin and opens a screen to work behind and fool the guards.no body else walks past all the time he is there.!next he jumps off a ledge 6 storeys up, flys down a telephone wire ,lands on a moving van at 40 mph without a shirt on and falls on a cobble road, not even a scratch!he gets caught and told he will be killed or his mission ,"if he chooses to accept"will keep him alive. I burst out laughing,is this a comedy? The stunts get bigger.and dafter. it reminded me of how james bond has now gone,Just full of silly stunts. The best Bonds are the Sean connery era,The first mission impossible was the best.If you like spy type films just watch the best, the Bourne films and don't waste your time with this
Brake (2012)
Don't bother!
what a load of rubbish! don't waste your time the plot is full of holes, 1,There are a dozen or so captives locked in the boot (trunk)of cars, yet the boots are lined in neon lights, why would the bad guys do this when the cars are going to be blown up. 2,jeremy calls the police on a mobile (cell)phone to tell them he is locked in the boot and to find him,and call his house to see if his wife is OK, the police call back after around 15 minutes and tell jeremy there is something wrong his wife is missing, and there is a note to say his wife is being held elswhere, all this happens but the police don't get to jeremy in the parked car, that now sets off again!! 3,jeremy calls the house of a fellow cia agent and a terrorist answers and knows its jermey calling just by his voice, how does he know this? 4,if the bad guys know jeremy has a phone in the boot of the car,why don't they take it off him,
The only reason i am watching this rubbish is i accidentally paid for the film on a pay per view channel,so have watched it up to 68 mins
i doubt i will see anymore, The plot is so bad,the film is so dull, don't bother watching this. if you like action watch a re run of the Bourne films
The Town (2010)
Affleck Trimuphs
I caught this film flicking through channels, don't know how i missed it before, after 15 minutes i was into the story and was hooked to the end. Some of the reviews on here have slated the story because affleck and his gang escape dressed as police officers and that would not happen.Well it has happened in real life robberies, plenty of them. Also some reviews complain its not very original, well its cops and robbers, there is only so much to work with! The story was not over the top,had plenty of action,is well written and has a strong cast. There are good street scenes through Boston, car chases, action, shoot outs and a good ending, what more do you want!.Watch the film you wont be disappointed
Edge of Darkness (2010)
The good and the bad in Boston
I came across this film by accident,it was on the channel on the TV i had just watched the mens 100 metre final on in the Olympics,i had not heard of the film and was about to swap to something else, but decided to watch it. Gibson gives one of his best performances, as a cop, along with Ray Winstone who is excellent as a cross between a CIA agent and a hit-man.The directing is sharp and the filming locations add realism,(as against been on set). There are plenty of twists with clever action/stunt scenes and a decent story,my only negative would be the sound editing,i had to rewind occasionally and use teletext as i could not make out the lines,Winestones thick London accent does not help, but its also hard to understand lines from the rest of the cast.Throughout i believed in Gibsons role of a cop and a father in turmoil, with no other the top action scenes, just good acting.I highly recommend this movie.
Green Street (2005)
unrealistic
i have seen all the films that have been made about the English football hooligan scene, they are all rubbish. The most realistic you can get to seeing how the 1980"s football gangs or firms dressed and went to the games is a 1 hour documentary called "hooligan",made in 1985 by Ian Studdard available from Amazon,on found on google. most of the lads had jobs, you needed money, spending £100,on a Saturday was no problem even 30 years ago. They were builders, electricians, ,waggon drivers, with the odd teacher, banker, a lot are self employed and earn big money; i know of a RAF fighter pilot who was arrested. At the beginning of the film when the 2 groups see each other on opposite sides of the train platform,in the film they stand shouting at each other,in reality they would have jumped onto the train lines and ran into each other fighting. when your at a home game you don't jump up and down on the tables in the pubs ,everyone is just talking, when away the jumping about happens usually because everyone is drunk .its not a planed thing..its probably the fight scenes that are filmed the worse, all the shouting and jumping, in reality if you are walking through a city on a away trip and you see a group of the home fans(only the lads wanting to fight not the ones with the scarves)the 2 groups would run straight at each other and start fighting,a few black eyes and sore legs from kicks.if you want to see the real 80"s you can probably see "hooligan" the documentary ,its about west ham,the same as this film, or look at you tube just type leeds v millwall "fans"
The Change-Up (2011)
How bad can it get?
I have used the IMDb review for years to look what other users comments are on films before i watch them, but after watching 30 minutes of this film i actually registered,so i could warn other people just how bad this film is. Was the director 14 years old,the film starts just as i expected, 30 something year old men saying "masterbate"for cheap laughs, of the two leading men (who had no chemistry whatsoever)one of them acts like a school kid,why do film studios make garbage like this? It seems as though the script was wrote for American pie 10 years ago when the characters would have been 16,it still would not be funny but would make more sense. I have now watched 54 minutes and the only reason i am still watching is nothing else is on TV. WATCH ANYTHING ELSE BUT THIS RUBBISH,am turning it off now would rather turn the TV off.
