Totally Weird & Unfathomable
5 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this film yesterday as I fancied the synopsis, but when I saw the "Film 4" & "UK Lottery Funded" logos at the start, my expectations dropped before the film had even started properly! I was wrong as this film was much worse than I'd anticipated.

It was very confusing throughout, the cutting backwards & forwards of scenes makes for a non-sensicle film with little in the way of explanations or character progression.

The acting was quite good, but it was just too slow and I was bored after 10 minutes...indeed about 25% of the other people in the cinema walked out before halfway, and my main mistake was not joining them! Underage Sex, Self-Harming & Suicide are the only "mentionable" points in this depressing film if you can call them that.

As a very regular cinema-goer, this ranks as one of the worst films I've seen in years, and that's saying something!

Jolly Xmas Film!
13 December 2004
A typical jolly Xmas feel-good film with all the ingredients you expect and a nice warm ending.

There are some cute kids in this film, and plenty of slapstick comedy to keep you entertained.

Great acting and a nice length...this would have been perfect for Dakota Fanning to star in.

I enjoyed the last-minute organisational of everything and wished my community was like theirs!

This will leave you wishing it was Xmas day tomorrow!

I rated it a 7/10

Slow First Half, But Then Goes Bananas!
13 December 2004
I loved Finding Nemo last year and was really looking forward to this film.

The first hour was disappointing to say the least as it was quite slow with not much happening, but suddenly the film changes gear and literally takes off in spectacular fashion! The amount of sheer action, excitement and laughter packed into the final hour was unbelievable and made me laugh, cry and shout at the screen at different points with full emotion.

Amazing doesn't convey what I thought of this film...astounding is nearer the mark, although as the film ended (a sequel is heavily hinted near the end) I just sat in my chair in stunned silence and wiped the tears from my eyes and let everyone else in the cinema leave before me while I composed myself! A film mainly for adults I'd suggest, but kids will also like it, although there are several "adult" in-jokes thats kids won't get.

Pixar gets better and better....can their next film "CARS" be any better...is it possible to be any better???????? Just see it please, and you'll agree with me.... *** SUPERB ***

Musical Blockbuster!
13 December 2004
A great musical spectacular of a scale not seen since the fantastic Chicago a year ago.

If you only know the main Phantom theme tune, you will quickly learn to love the other beautiful tunes throughout this film.

I had never seen the stage show, nor knew the story before seeing this film, so everything that happened was a surprise including the wonderful ending.

Take a tissue or two with you as it's sad...I won't say any more about that.

The ONLY thing that slightly annoyed me during the film was that the solo musical numbers were not perfectly in sync to the person singing it and it spoilt the illusion that the person was actually singing it and not just miming.

Nevertheless, one of the best films of the entire year, and I've seen a lot of films! An easy 8/10 vote for me.

8 Mile (2002)
Wasted potential.
11 January 2003
This film had tremendous potential, but sadly didn't live up to it.

As long as you watch the first 10 minutes & the last 10 minutes, the rest of the film is totally irrelevant and is just filling time before the answer to the initial 10 minutes is revealed!

I was expecting the song Loose Yourself (as per the trailer) to be played at some point in the film, but it isn't.

The acting was good throughout and fans of Eminem will get what they expect, just don't expect too much.
