Weeds (2005–2012)
7/10
Watched the first two seasons and enjoyed; but will not be seeing more - here's why...
30 December 2011
I watched the first two seasons on VOD over here in the course of a week and until the last three episodes of the second season I was riveted by the plot and the fine acting - it was like living in Agrestick myself. I kept telling my wife about this brilliant series where once some weird assumptions were granted the inescapable logic of human situations played out in amazing ways.

And then I watched episodes 10-12 of season 2 and was mortified by their unworkable combination of moral obtuseness (unwarranted by previous developments and totally deviating from the development of at least one of the main characters) and recycled slapstick. The final five minutes left a very bad taste in my mouth. After googling the rest of the series I decided to skip the rest.

In retrospect I'd say that the first season was superb (10 out of 10) but somewhere down the line the slide began and instead of arresting it the writers just destroyed the show.

Class Warfare (2001 TV Movie)

Passable but the end is incredibly stupid
3 October 2011
This was actually looking like a good movie before the final 10 minutes. But the end (the very very final scene, not the predictable final chase) blew it all. Won't give you spoilers but the ending really ruined the whole movie for me.

Anyway, like others have said, Lindsey McKeon was very convincing. Most of the other characters were fine as well. Amber was a bit less convincing. But lousy script - and in the end it got the upper hand over the actors and director.

So, skip this unless you have nothing important to do and you are ready to weather the silly end. Otherwise, just watch a Colombo or something.

Atrocious movie, wonderful actress
13 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
What we have here is a woman who has some real problems in her marriage - due mostly to her husband's ex-wife, children, mother and IRS shenanigans. So what does she do? Well, after making a few abortive attempts to talk things over with her husband (who amiably but vainly tries to please everybody) she - literally! - runs off to sleep with the house inspector who had been making completely obvious passes at her for the past 30 min or so of the film.

If this was somewhat hard to swallow or to cheer at, what comes next is even worse: miraculously all the aforementioned problems sort themselves out and then our heroine confesses her affair to her husband who forgives her. Happy end.

It's hard to know where to begin to criticize this travesty. If this were a movie about a family disintegrating because of communication problems it would have been sad but true. But instead this train-wreck of a movie sends two messages: (a) adultery is a viable solution to problems (b) adultery does not really matter. (Since both propositions are false and invidious it actually matters little that they are somewhat contradictory...) Finally, what is even more infuriating is the way the supposedly insoluble problems just disappear towards the end - the viewers are obviously not thought of highly enough to even bother about some deus ex machina.

This is all a pity because Andrea Roth is an excellent actress. However, she is not enough to save this lame attempt at a movie.
