Girlfight (2000)
Absolutely Fantastic
I've seen Michelle Rodriguez in a lot of films before- in fact, Resident Evil is one of my favorite movies- and have always thought of her as a good, but not exactly amazing actress. But after seeing this movie, I have a newfound respect for her and all other actors, because the acting is pretty much what made this movie. My only problem with the movie was the soundtrack, as well as some of the settings; Girlfight was a low budget movie, and it shows somewhat; though it's definately not enough to ruin the film or anything. Another small problem is the filming in some of the boxing scenes; it doesn't exactly show what's going on, and tends to be confusing. But the acting, like I've said, is absolutely amazing. The acting draws you into the movie, and makes you care about the outcome and events taking place. And the movie itself is very empowering, sending not the message that girls can box, but that anyone can do anything they put their mind to, provided that they have the strength and determination to work at it. This was a fantastic movie, and I highly reccomend it!
Resident Evil (2002)
Don't Expect The Game!
If you were one of those people narrow-minded enough to decide that this movie was going to be exactly like the game, and that nothing else would do, than of course you were going to hate it, and that's why this movie has gotten such a low reputation! I, myself, loved the movie. It's one of my favorites. And yes, I do play the game, and I do agree that it wasn't especially based upon it. But some of the scenes; the licker on the ceiling, etc, were straight from the game, and it was cool seeing that! But the movie itself is just fun to watch. The plot is confusing, the characters are rather flat; but the acting is good- not perfect, but good enough!- and it's energizing and interesting. This was a low budget movie, and it's nearly impossible to tell. My only nitpicks were the licker, which was rather computerized, and the diologue could have used work. My favorite character was Rain- Michelle Rodriguez's acting was very good in this film, as was Kaplan's actor. Milla's was okay- she has a very expressive face, and that, more than her acting, was what made her character believable. All of the other actors were fine, as well. And the commentary- if you're planning on buying the movie, get the dvd. It's absolutely hilarious, and has very little to do with the movie. But I would give this movie a 9 out of 10. Don't expect horror, don't expect a lot of suspense, and dont' be narrow minded enough to expect a game replica! But if you're looking for a fun, unique action film, this is a good one to see- I highly reccomend it.
Final Destination 2 (2003)
Good points and bad points
This show was rather good for a sequel, I must admit. However, it pales in comparison to the first one. First of all, most of the acting (with the exception of Ali Larter) is way overdone, except for a few parts, the entire movie is thoughrally predictable and incredibly fake, and a lot of the scenes are just bad versions of ones from the first movie with different characters. On the plus side, the death sequences are interesting to watch, and the special effects are decent.
Burning Annie (2004)
Very Fun!
A very funny, albeit somewhat short movie, with a witty script and an awesome cast! It's very unique, very different, but very interesting; after seeing it for the first time, I watched it three times over, and I'm sure you will too!
