The Matrix Revolutions (2003)
Godlike
The series is over and I leave the cinema quite sad that what I have waited for these past years is now over, what more is there to see... What I saw at 2:30 Switch Island Cinema, Liverpool, Revolutions' first showing in Britain, was everything I wanted and more. I sat right at the back and witnessed a crowd of people in awe at what they where watching. Not one person got up to go the toilet or for some food in the whole movie. Now that is a first. My body was paralysed because of the intensity of the experience. November the 5th Bonfire Night 2003 will remain in my memory for ever, superb day. What you can say after watching the 3rd is that any reviews for Reloaded cannot be complete reviews until Revolutions has been viewed. They are one movie. Revolutions picks up from the second Reloaded finishes, watch them both before you judge. 10 out of 10, gob-smacking visions from two brothers in 6 hours of 100 percent quality. They should never make another movie for they have reached perfection...
Sliders: Pilot (1995)
One of the all time greatest tv shows
This was truly one of the greatest shows ever to grace my television. As someone stated, some series are so engrossing you begin to dream about them. As is the popular story told about Sliders. The series was unbelievable until the Prof got killed off in, what was it 'a solar flare storm'. It was hard to take but I think most people watched on. Then as the episodes passed beyond Arturo's death you had this sinking feeling that none of them were going home. This should have been the definitive ending. Or something involving the original cast. I have watched all the series only because I stayed loyal to the show. The fact remains though it didn't end the way it should. Seeing Wade Wells' head in a jar was just not on. Yet up to the point of killing off Arturo and even a small part beyond that with the 2 Mallory's it was refreshing and sci-fi magic. Those are the memories I'll remember from the series. It is one of the greatest sci-fi tv programmes ever made. 10/10 for this piece of magic. Can't wait for the DVD to come out!
The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
A fitting second installment
This did exactly what I think most avid fans of the first movie needed from a sequel. It had scenes that will be remembered for years to come such as Neo fighting a 100 Agent Smith's, or the car chase taking your breath away with every twist and turn. Most of all, the moment Neo dives between two collided trucks on the verge of mass explosion to save his crew. Shocking how something like that can be seen by our own eyes in a cinema and not just in our dreams, that moment alone demands the admission fee. I sat in the cinema and for the first part I felt let down by the rave sequence which wasn't to my taste. I thought it was drawn out and had no purpose in the film, I nearly lost sight, I started to get this sinking feeling. Yet I got beyond that when the pace of the film built up to a furious finale. I was immensely pleased by Reloaded. Every second since I sat through 'The Matrix' I had wanted a sequel. I had wanted to know what was going to happen in the world the Wachowski brothers had created, finally it is here, and I am far from disapointment. I don't see how anyone can be. They are not shortchanging us by leaving us on a cliffhanger they are giving us the 3rd and final part 6 months later so that the trilogy can be finished. I think the series is more of two movies, in which the 2nd and 3rd will act as a 6 hour sequel to the first. So make your judgements after seeing the finished article. All I know is that from the first and second movies I have witnessed movie magic, in scenes which I can talk about with my friends for years to come. I think a problem with reviewing Reloaded so early since its release, not even waiting for a good 5 or so viewings is wrong. 'The Matrix' wasn't a one time only watchable movie. I had to sit through it again and again to understand all of its messages before I could get to grips with the whole concept. This is what should be done with Reloaded. Given time and multiple viewings most fans of the first movie will see it as a fitting second to the series. I recently read the transcript to the meeting between Neo and the Architect, which at the time I became lost after 3 seconds of staring into the old mans beard. Yet reading the script I realised how intelligently the story has evolved. Simply there is too much information to be taken in whilst viewing Reloaded, a stigma attached to the first. So given time Reloaded will be seen as a huge success as it rightly should be. Take away the rave scene and you have yourself a 10 out of 10.
One thing I'd like to see from Revolutions is Neo beating up some fat-blokes. Some ordinary people who can't match his punches and so forth. Just let him beat the crap out of some normal James Bond Cronies for 10 minutes. Now that would be lovely.
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003)
Amazing sheer class
This is exactly what movies are about. Going to the cinema to enjoy a top quality blockbuster. This movie has it all, smart acting, food for the eyes and the ultimate ending. This has truly been one of the greatest years for movies I have witnessed to date. Arnie comes back and does exactly what he should have, a good rock steady performance. Everything about this movie is spot on, from the chase scenes to the humour. When I go to see a movie in the cinema I want to be entertained from start to finish, so that I can forget about the fact that my leg is cramping up because my seat is poor quality. This does it for me. I'm one of the biggest fans going when it comes to the Terminator series, yet I have not been prejudiced against this movie from the beginning just because James 'Titanic' Cameron wasn't involved. Its his loss not being a part of the 3rd and hopefully 4th movie in some small way. Why do people frown at the thought of a sequel coming out. It extends the emotion that was had in the first movie, which if only small can't be a bad thing. After all it costs about £4 to go see the damn movie, how can that not be money well spent when the package is this good. So in final if you don't like this movie, you can 'talk to the hand', because this is top quality entertainment. What more needs to be said.
