Kaun Pravin Tambe? (2022)
Not only for cricket fans
Watched this with great anticipation being a cricket fan who has watched Pravin Tambe live in IPL.
The movie for most parts isn't just about cricket jargons.
The story and the comedy timings are well developed. Keeps you engaged for the whole ride.
Shreyas is well cast considering his another excellent role in Iqbal which gave him fame. He does complete justice to the role.
The never give up attitude is well personified in this true story which traverses thru the multiple letdowns to the ultimate reward for the lifelong dream.
Definitely worth your couple of hours to know a journey which is now etched in history.
The Lone Ranger (2013)
Finally watched it against all the negative reviews and thank god I did
As a fan of Pirates series and Gore Verbinski's fantasy world, I was eagerly waiting for this movie to come out. But all the extreme negative reviews left a lingering doubt it in me, forcing me to avoid the theaters for this one. After finally watching it on DVD, that is the only thing I regret.
It's really an all round fun movie with good character/story development and some really fascinating action and thrills. Johnny Depp as Tonto reminds us the fun he had playing Captain Jack Sparrow, especially in the part-I of Pirates series. Annie Hammer as the Ranger might have been a bold choice given his nascent star status, but every star was a newbie someday. He earnestly plays his part. William Fichtner is menacing and Tom Wilkinson fits his role well. The direction and story telling was impressive, which I have found lacking in some of the recent blockbusters (most notably Hunger Games). The Western concept has been captured nicely and the train sequences are fun to watch. People have complained at times of its length, but it all seemed to be a part of character development for me. Recent films have either very hurried approach or such a slow development that it bores you. TLR found a good balance for me. If you haven't watched it, catch it on DVDs with an open mind and you will definitely enjoy it.
Finding Forrester (2000)
Inspiring to say the least
I am writing this review after my watching this movie for the 5th time and dare I say, I am not the most frequent reviewer. Every time I feel a bit down or unhappy with myself, Finding Forrester cheers me up and elevates my confidence. People might remember director Gus Van Sant's earlier work in Good Will Hunting (equally good) more famously, but Finding Forrester never seizes to amaze me on every single viewing. The relationship shown between an under-privileged black kid (the film is not totally on the race card for a change) and a famous but ex-writer, who has gone in hiding from the society, is heart warming and quite engaging. The performances from Sean Connery and Rob Brown are excellent and takes this amazing tale to greater heights. I haven't seen all the Sean Connery movies, but this performance remains my favorite. All in all, if you like cinema which has some content, story-telling and emotions, this flick is highly recommended for you.
The Big Bang Theory: The Decoupling Fluctuation (2012)
One of the best episodes I have seen in a long time
Couldn't help myself from writing this after seeing this particular episode. It was one of the best episodes I have seen in a long time....
Full of genuinely ROFL moments it really was a treat and lightened my mood in a big way. Good to see the screenplay bringing back the witty flair and giving the new season a terrific start. Scenes of Sheldon never holds back in dazzling you. Moreover the rest of the cast and specially the ones involving Howard are hilarious. The taunts of Sheldon to the new member of the crew is fun. Have to mention, The outsourcing joke over Indians never gets old. Looking forward to the rest of the season....
The Hunger Games (2012)
Great Hype, Disappointing attempt
The Hunger Games seemed a very exciting project to start with all the hype around its starcast, book trilogy and fast paced trailers. But the end result disappoints big time. There has been a lot of fuss around the fact that it's an excellent adaptation from the original books and that it has lots of similar moments to Battle Royale. Well coming from a person without any pre-conceived notions (neither watched the Battle royale nor read the books)this movie came across as a very poor attempt of film making as well as the story telling.
Performance:- Jennifer Lawrence is pleasing to the eyes and acts decently promising a good future, But Josh Hutcherson is a misfit. Liam Hemsworth's role is next to nothing. Woody Harrelson does provide some lighter moments though.
Cinematography:- The Shaky camera approach to almost every action scene takes the sting out of this so called action thriller. Where is the fun if you can't see what's happening.
Screenplay:- Unaware of the book details I would say the events unfolding in the movie are predictable to say the least. The struggle of the protagonist doesn't seem challenging or real enough and the cheesy end doesn't help its case either.
Direction:- One word - Poor.
The healthy premise of a promising subject was executed badly. Hope they improve over this ordinary effort in the sequels to come (which seems quite unlikely with the same technical team around and the amount of mad money the film has made) as I definitely felt my hard earned money was wasted in its ticket.
The Prestige (2006)
Nolan at his Best
Welcome to the world of magic. Nolan drives us through an unforgettable journey in the world of Passion (read as magic), Ego (tussle to outclass your competitor at any cost) and a thrilling cinematographic masterpiece which is here to stay. Chistopher Nolan is known more for his work in modern classics like Memento (2000) & the Batman series but this movie remains my personal favourite of his works. Michael Caine and Chritian Bale (both personal favourites of Nolan while casting) give an stellar performance yet again but the one who completely dazzled me in this one is Hugh Jackman. The man to man war between Jackman & Bale to outsmart each other in the magic tricks is a treat to watch. Scarlett Johannsson is pretty as always and gives good support to the men here.
The Non linear Story telling (which is trademark of Nolan's work) only adds to the suspense and beauty of this film. As the pages are unfold, It completely keeps you on the edge of your seats. I would definitely not like yo ruin your experience by leaking something out of the story. Watch out for the climax which completely left me dazzled personally.
The 1900's set up charismatically elevates the cinematic experience & the background score is dangerous for your nails (Pls don't bite ur nail while watching this :P). I rate this movie 10/10 as very few films have impressed me to this level. Good Work Nolan and keep it up. Eagerly waiting for your Inception (2010). I recommend this for everyone personally as this roller coaster ride through Nolan's vision is a rarity. Don't miss it at any cost.
