Indestructible (2007)
Simple and Awesome
Any film related to issues like facing death can tend to sensationalism. Not the case in this one. "Indestructible" is, yes, a hard movie to watch, hard on the soul, but without any of the typical "I'm-trying-to-make-you-cry" devices. It simply rings authentic, personal, true. Ben Byer seems to make the film for himself, for his son, and talks as if talking to us. He is explanatory, yet poetic. Not to mention other characters such as Oliver Sacks who always has something worthwhile to say. I have come from a long stretch of watching one documentary after another, for weeks on Netflix. But none has touched me as much as this one. I simply couldn't get my eyes off of it. And even now, one month after having watched it, it is still in my mind... inspiring me, making me think. "Indestructible" is human, it is humbling, funny at times, awesome from beginning to end.
