Something Got Lost
11 July 2023
I watched this because it had a high RT score but the audience score was pretty low. I gave it a chance and I can say there was a moment or two in the beginning that was unsettling and I thought I was in for a treat. Unfortunately the film loses its way. Not sure if it was trying too hard to be an art film or simply downright weird. Either way it failed miserably. I was lost in the mess and what's worse is I no longer cared about any of it. It meandered on and I became more disinterested. It truly was a great idea and may have been better with a more straightforward approach. This was recommended to me on a found footage movie list. Not sure if it should be considered found footage. Whatever the case, its a hard pass that I could never recommend.

Okay it's time for some real reviews...
25 December 2020
Not sure what is going on with IMDB reviewers of this movie, but clearly some toes got stepped on or something. But as is the case with IMDB anyway, which is why the message boards disappeared anyway. But I digress...

Rating this movie lower than a 5 is just ridiculous.

The movie is 6/10 for me. I'd give it higher but the movie is long winded and slow in some areas. But when the movie gets going, it's a fun movie much like the first installment. The ending was a little disappointing and a little too simply wrapped up...but I'll deal with it.

There! That's a real review. IMDB...as usual....clean up your site from trolls.

Don't Waste Time With This!
6 May 2020
You have been warned! I was warned and I didn't listen. A friend told me not to bother watching this but as a FF fanatic I told him I must watch it. I wish I had listened.

The male lead does nothing yell at the screen every 30 seconds and it's completely obnoxious. And it's hard to get emotionally invested in a movie when the male lead is that unlikeable and the supposed action takes place off screen.

So again I warn you...I warn you all! This is a terrible piece of excrement. I wish I had never laid eyes on it.

Pure Fictionalized Fantasy
2 May 2020
I'll keep it brief. I gave it 5 stars because it did hold my interest. Other than that I found it cringe-worthy. I'll never understand why tell a fantasized story about an actual era of Hollywood when telling the actual truth would have been so much more satisfying and interesting? I expected better.

Kept me Watching
5 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Always looking for horror films that I haven't seen. Stumbled onto this one tonight. Melissa Sue Anderson....from Little House on The Prairie? In a horror film?

This movie managed to keep my interest even though some of it is borderline ridiculous. The first scene after the girl had been attacked, she manages to run only 10 feet away and then stop and cry about the experience. Maybe should have ran a little farther after such an incident? Maybe kept running? Along with this was the crazy ending that was practically straight out of a bad soap opera storyline.

Again, I found most of it amusing and it was worth the watch for me. 6 Stars.

The End of Hell House LLC
20 September 2019
The first movie had so much dread and genuine creepiness to it. It's a shame that couldn't be carried throughout the series. Even the second one, the story was somewhat lacking but still there were moments of dread in it. This third installment just doesn't have that. I give it 6 stars because it kept me interested enough to watch to the end and it was by no means a boring movie. It simply had a lot to live up to...and the first movie in this series will always outshine the two that followed.

Meh, It's Decent.
16 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
All I can really say is that it's a decent follow up to It. The movie is a little long but I'm not sure how that could be corrected considering the book is the source material. That's a lot of material to try to get through in two movies.

In the end, however, what we see on the screen is some not so good CGI material and a lot of stingers or jump scares.

One shining moment from the movie is when Stephen King himself makes an appearance. I loved that scene!

Kept Me Watching
15 September 2019
First of all, this wasn't that bad. Has this type of story been done before? Sure it has. But this movie kept me watching and held my interest. There were some genuinely creepy moments.

The faults the movie has is that I wish there had been a little less of the killer. They should have kept him as some shape/shadow in the dark. I didn't need to see him up close. It would have made it so much creepier for me. Honestly, if I want to watch a guy in a mask killing people, I'll watch Halloween or one of the Friday the 13th movies.

There were a couple of moments in the beginning of the movie when they only show the killer as some distant shape or man in the woods. That worked for me. As with most good horror movies, less is more.

The kids were annoying at times, but hey...kids are annoying so I won't find fault with the movie over them.

If you're looking for a decent thriller, this movie is passable.

I'll give this movie credit, it kept me interested to see where it would go. I did find it somewhat predictable. There wasn't too much chilling or creepy here and I expect that when watching a horror movie.

Decently Creepy!
2 September 2019
Ignore the other reviews that rate this film less than 5. It seems any found footage movie out there is instantly proclaimed as "crap" by the general masses. So much so that it has become cliché to rate them as such. I mean seriously? Rating THIS movie a 1? Nah, I ain't buying it. That's all bandwagon mentality.

I am a found footage lover and this movie, while not all that original, did have some genuinely creepy moments. Do yourself a favor, if you're a fan of found footage movies, make your own call on this one. It deserved better than the bandwagon here is giving it.

Surprisingly Good!
26 August 2019
This movie surprised me so much. I saw a trailer for it recently and it caught my interest but could it live up to the trailer? Yes, it could and did. There's some campy 80's horror stuff going on in this movie but beneath all of that there's the story about a mother and a daughter and it will tug at your heart.

If you're a fan of 80's slasher movies...this is a must see!

Not That Great
24 August 2019
First of all, I'm not the biggest fan of this franchise to begin with...when people tell me they're horror fans and proceed to list The Conjuring movies as examples of good horror, I mentally dismiss them and their opinion right off the bat. That said, there must be people out there who do like them because this franchise has exploded. Not sure if it's because these stories are based on the so called research and investigations of Ed and Lorain Warren and therefore people think this stuff is some how true...which is ridiculous. Then again the general public has a knack for eating up the ridiculous and the mundane.

And that brings me to The Nun. Not sure where the plot was in this movie? Was this supposed to be an origin movie? Still not sure on that one either. If it was an origin movie, I'm still scratching my head over it. Why is there an Evil Nun/Demon haunting this Abbey? That's not explained. The writing does explain why the Abbey is haunted...but again, no explanation over why an Evil Nun/Demon exists.

In general, this movie like much of the rest of The Conjuring Franchise is bland and uninteresting as mentioned earlier. It has Hollywood's boring little finger prints all over it and for some reason, the mundane public just eats it up.

I was into this immediately and even if it was somewhat predictable in the beginning, I couldn't stop watching it! It led me right up to the cliffhanger and I'm sitting here wanting more! Give me more Netflix!

Ridiculous and Not What I Expected
10 February 2019
So I went into this thinking that it was going to actually be about memes. You know those things that constantly circulate on social media that people use over and over again. Nope! This was about a handful of no-talent "stars" that have never had to work for anything in there life. All this documentary did was give these people a platform to discuss their narcissistic lives. Completely revolting and a waste of time.

Terrible Acting and a Weak and Muddled Script
10 February 2019
I'm not here to review the message of the movie. You can take what you want of it. I'm here to review the messy script and the terrible acting. I can handle movies about Christianity for sure, some of them have great messages and some of them are delivered so nicely. This one not so much. I wish they had cut the script down just a bit and invested just a little to give the actors some lessons. The little girl did nothing but snarl through the entire movie and don't even get me going on the woman playing the mother. Yeesh!

Eight is Not Enough!
26 January 2019
Great show! So glad I gave it a chance. It's just what I was looking for, unfortunately it ended way too quickly. I certainly hope there are more episodes in the works. I love to find binge worthy shows and loved this one, but there just isn't enough of this show. I need more!

Netflix irritates me with the way it introduces these shows and then there isn't any more of them. Last year I found a great show on Netflix called "Everything Sucks" and unfortunately I recently read that Netflix wasn't bringing it back. I hope this doesn't happen with this Sex Education.

Stephen Cognetti Certainly Knows Subtle Horror
23 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
In his first movie Mr. Cognetti hit a home run with Hell House LLC. There weren't any jump scares, not too much gore, but a lot of subtlety, slowly building to the ultimate finale of that movie: What really happened at Hell House on opening night! Great stuff! Much of the material left this viewer with an unsettled feeling and that's exactly how horror should be.

Now he's done it again with Hell House LLC II: The Abaddon Hotel. Mr. Cognetti once again proves that he knows what is scary and doesn't over do it with the material. There is one scene where the portal to hell opens up in the basement, and I do feel that should have been left out of the movie. I also feel that this movie isn't quite as cohesive as the first installment. There is a lot of jumping around and I feel overall that effected the movie's flow.

Still there is much here that leaves the viewer with that unsettled feeling and at every moment in the hotel, you're always wondering what may be lurking around the corner or what may be watching you! It's great stuff and this horror fan loves it!

Could have been better
19 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This could have been so much better but it gets a little bogged down in places. I liked that there was some skepticism shown in certain parts of the film and he clearly states that some of what has been shown about this house was clearly faked (the picture of that thing in the window).

Still it got boring when it started in on Erica's exorcism in that church. I didn't care for that. I also find it strange that the camera man was supposedly vomiting blood, yet somehow that's never shown on camera. If it was that serious, wouldn't you want that in this film?

Just not sure what to think about this other than some of the acting in it was really bad so that leads me to think it's mostly staged. That's kind of sad because the search for the truth will continue.

Ah The 90's
28 March 2018
When I first began watching this show I wasn't sure what to expect from it. I did initially feel that they were constantly reminding the audience that the show took place in the 90's and found that a little too on the nose. BUT as the story developed and evolved, I fell absolutely in love with this show for it's nostalgia and for everyone of these characters. All I can say now is PLEASE NETFLIX...give me more!

Finally Watched This!
13 January 2018
I knew about this documentary a few years ago but I never had a chance to watch it until last night! I absolutely loved it! Of course, I loved Truth or Dare when it came out back in the 90's. So how could I not love this?

I guess to understand my love for this movie so much, you have to understand what Madonna was back in the early 90's. She was groundbreaking and innovating back then. It was unheard of for such a mainstream performer to practically worship the gay scene and put it in the public's face the way Madonna did...along with these dancers. As a young gay men at that time it meant so much to me to see this happening right in front of my eyes and I began my own journey, realizing, that it was okay to be gay. And I owe that to the guys in this movie. I wish could tell them what they did for me back then.

One touching aspect of the film is Oliver, the only heterosexual dancer in the group who stated that he was extremely homophobic before the tour experience but he came away from that with the feeling that gay men can be his brothers too!

Very nice. I'll be forever thankful to whoever thought this documentary up. It was great to see these guys again after all these years.

These dancers were truthful as to what that experience meant to them but they also are clear that they have moved on with their lives.

It's good, but there are some problems...There may be spoilers here!
25 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I just got back from seeing this. I've waited 3 years to see this movie and I can safely say it was worth the wait.

This isn't a hokey and trite superhero movie. You know the kind where they deliver terrible one-liners every 5 minutes that you half expect the heroes to look at the camera, break the 4th wall and say, "Hey look at us, aren't we being cute?" It's unfortunate that the general public has come to expect this from the superhero genre.

The good:

Ben Affleck-he made a great Batman. I was one of those who wasn't sure he could pull it off, but yes he did and terrifically if you ask me.

Gal Gadot/Wonder Woman-She was for me, one of the movie's greatest strengths. Every time she was in a scene, I couldn't take my eyes off of her and I wanted to know what she (Wonder Woman) was up to in this movie. She left me wanting to know more about her. And I'm twice as excited to see the Wonder Woman movie coming out next year!

Henry Cavill-I think he already made Superman his own. I don't really have much to say about him other than you really got to see that this guy can act in that final moments of this movie.

Jesse Eisenber-Loved him as Lex Luthor. You could tell the guy was menacing and unstable from the first time he's on the scene.

The Final battle of the movie-Great stuff, loved Superman realizing that he needed Batman's help and how the story evolved in this part of the movie.

The Bad:

The movie suffers from some editing problems. The first part of it is quite messy because it's small scene after small scene all clustered together. It becomes somewhat incoherent at times and difficult to follow.

Batman's motivation in the final battle. He clearly wants to kill Superman. I don't believe Batman should ever be that dark.

It also appears, according to the movie that Batman has been around for awhile but yet the public knows next to nothing about him. This is evident when we see the police shooting at him in a scene where he has chained up the bad guy who is guilty of human trafficking.

Finally, it is quite clear that Warner Bros/DC didn't quite know how to handle this type of story. Part of the movie feels like a sequel to Man of Steel, the other part feels like it's a reboot of Batman. It's a shame that Warner didn't take the time to give us both of those and tie both of those movies together. It made have made for smoother storytelling and less messiness that I spoke of at the beginning of the movie.

My rating is 8/10...simply because the final act of the movie was a true adventure and left me wanting more.

Middle of Nowhere
13 June 2015
I'll admit that I tried to read the books but found them lacking and full of trite and ridiculous material. I failed to see what the big deal was about this story. Was it just sex? Surely not. Have we dropped so far in our sense of taste that this story was made a big deal solely because of its supposedly graphic nature? I can't believe that because there are other stories out there that are just as graphic that are beautifully written.

I'll also admit that I saw this movie twice. Once I watched it on my own because I was bored and I figured if I couldn't make through the book, the movie would surely be easier and less painful. In truth, it was. I was able to watch the movie completely. But unfortunately I'm still left wondering what the big deal was about this movie.

The pacing of the movie is terrible. It does two things. One, it rushes parts of the story that should be filled with character development and then two, it slows down to a snail's pace when showing unnecessary characters like her mother. Yes, her mother should be introduced at some point and this character should give some background as to why Ana would ever fall for such a guy as Christian Grey. It's true he's rich and somewhat good looking, but Ana knows more about him of course and she knows there is this supposed dark side to him. Maybe Anastasia's background could explain it. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen. All we get are slow scenes with her that take away from what little of this story there actually is.

In the end, I sat through the movie waiting for the big pay off. There had to be a point to this. I gave it ample to time to develop. Something to at least show me there was a point to this movie. Something that went somewhere. It unfortunately never happened. The story basically takes you to the middle of nowhere and stops.

What was the point of this movie? Why didn't it have a proper plot and pacing? The first story of a series should at least do that much. I fail to see where else this story could go after this? In the end, it's tired and been done before and much better. Plain girl comes across a mysterious, rich, and good looking man who is surrounded by beautiful women and of course he takes an interest in her and therefore plays out the fantasy of women everywhere right? Wrong. There are elements of that to this story but again it has been done before and again...much better.

There simply isn't much going on here.

I give it 3 stars because it was worth watching again with a friend just to get some laughs out of it and to riff it a bit. If you're into that, it'll serve it's purpose and enjoy. If not, just skip this one. Go watch a good porn, there is probably a better story there.
