Kickassia (2010)
It is what it is, but it isn't what my it is....
Most of the time I like the low budget, average Joe trying to make it flicks. Usually they are the birthplace of good original stories. Finding those hidden gem movies like, Clercks, Orgasmo, and Moon is fun. Unfortunately you have to see 10 bad movies to get to those. This movie was pretty much a waste of 1:31:31. I do like, and respect what the makers were trying to do. It is an original(ish) idea, but it reminds me of a horribly written Mel Brooks movie. Too many "trying to be funny" lines, there was no flow to the story. Actually, there was no point to the story, just a revolving door of subplots I guess you would call it. I really don't see many people who are going to like Kickassia, other than these people's families and friends. To each his own, I'm sure someone will dig it, and who knows, maybe someone gets noticed and goes on to write or act in something better, you could only hope.
Frozen (2010)
Good premise for a thriller, was there no winter/ski resort/survivalist authorities to help?
OK, well I liked what they were trying to do here, but the lack of attention to detail completely sent this movie down the drain in my opinion. I'm just gonna go over a few of the bigger holes I noticed.
First - who picked the location where the panoramic shots were taken. A little more effort to sell the height of the chair lift would have been a priority to me. At the highest judging from the trees and other terrain features, they were around 50 feet. Don't know how many of you have jumped from any height over your own body height, but 50 feet isn't very high, I've fallen from that high and jumped from higher and not been injured.
Two - I don't care how coordinated a person may be, it's harder to try to land on two feet after dropping than it is not to. Especially when you are at a ski slope which is on an incline so the whole compound fractures to both legs isn't impossible, but it is highly improbable.
Three - when you get frostbite your affected area's do not lose their feeling as quickly as these people in this movie. The biggest WTF on this to me is when the gal falls asleep with her bare hand grasping the safety bar. Sure frostbite can hit and do significant damage pretty quickly, but I guarantee she would be in no, not feeling pain position to where she falls asleep w/ her hand exposed like that. There is a good amount of time where you are in a lot of pain before you can't feel.
Four - No one really shivered which is a reflex of your body trying to keep warm (which a person can get uncontrollably shaking, looking like someone having a seizure) - The wolves feeding was unrealistic, they all don't bust in and "go to town" this is where the hierarchy comes in, usually only the Alpha couple eats in place, the rest cart off pieces and eat alone. Also, they start with the easily accessible organs and work to the muscle last. I have never seen a braided cable, especially a bigger diameter one be "razor sharp" as was portrayed here. You can and usually will get slivers from them, but they will never get sharp. If they did, they would be a HUGE liability, especially when on a chair lift.
OK I'm done ranting, like I said before, I did like the premise of this movie, but there definitely needed to be more effort put forth.
Bill Hicks Live: Satirist, Social Critic, Stand-up Comedian (2004)
Still missed 16 years Later
I was pretty young when Bill died (26 Feb 1994), well 15-ish, so much of his act didn't really register with me, mostly because of not being out in the world to experience, and witness much of the back ass-ward society he ranted about.
Actually, I owe thanks to Maynard James Keenan, Adam Jones and the rest of the band, Tool for introducing me, and many others to Bill Hicks with the dedication of the album Aenima to Bill in 1996. As the intro to the song "Third Eye" Tool used a section of one of Bills performances, and the chorus to Aenima refers to Bills Arizona Bay sketch, where LA is returned to the ocean from which it came.
Looking back now, watching, and listening to anything I can get my hands on that had to do with Bill, it all makes sense now. I really would like to know what Bills thoughts on where we are today would be. I'd bet instead of cancer killing him in '94, society, Bush 2, and the general thoughtlessness by everyone would have caused a heart attack, or aneurysm, to be his demise.
So here's to you Bill (and Sam Kennison) and the awakening of the masses....
I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell (2009)
Not the worst thing ever......
Well I can only assume that the people who bash this movie and any other stupid humor flick are ones that can't pull themselves out of their mothers basements long enough to cry at the outside world how stupid everyone is and then directly step down off of their self righteous pedestal, and return to their self-loathing positions as the trolls guarding their morbidly obese, over protective mothers bed pan.
Get off it douches, is it that hard to enjoy something without having to justify the worth of the person who's work you obviously don't and will never like. Jesus chill out, you don't like it, cool your deal, just shut up you Rush Limbaugh, whiny, I hate the world losers (who obviously have never laughed, because you were too busy rationalizing why would the chicken cross the road in the first place) Have a good time as life passes you by.........
