As if someone gave Wes Anderson the to adapt Succession as a Chilean vampire feature.
24 September 2023
This movie worth watching. It's a bit slow, but it fits the style.

The English dub is top-notch. I hope this becomes more common. The recording is good, but I can still tell it was recorded in a booth and not togetherness. Not sure what else so I'll just let aotocorrect hil in the rest.

Vampire's are you going to the game tomorrow night at the game tomorrow you can't get them in the you you typically take the whole thing off the show you can do it and then you can do it for me and I can get it done before I get it done before I leave the house and then I can get it done before I leave it yttty me up.

If you got four hours to kill..
22 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Story is a bit predictable, probably why they revealed that hes unreliable narrator in episode 3, but after that I didn't care, I just wanted to see what he was lying about, and what he was lying about could have easily been change with zero ramifications on everyone.. but, it doesn't matter because they pull a lazy and boring ambiguous ending. Sure the acting is decent, but I'm not sure if that's enough to watch 4 episodes.

A broody low budget version of Scooby Doo. If you wanted a modern take on a classic, why choose tropes from 40 years ago? ... a stock soundtrack that sounds like it was from 20 years ago? Remove the shoehorn slang parroted from Tiktok trends, and this show gives us nothing new or fresh. At the heart it should be a mystery.. and the hook just isn't that engaging. Sadly It's not good. Could have been worse... the dialogue, the plot, the acting, and cinematography would be alright if it wasn't such a beloved property, but this seems more like a cash grab than a labor of love. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't have sat through it. Thelma makes a huge deal about "loving science" then spends the rest of the show researching occult volumes as if they were textbooks.

The best performance in this whole show is by far Scoob's swinging ball sack. The fake vignette could have been toned down a stop or three. The spirit of Scooby Doo should be a rational (non-supernatural) explanation behind every mystery, but that requires actual effort. If I didn't care or was 12, I'd probably be into it. But today it doesn't work, audiences are smarter and deserve more respect.

I'm ending my aspiration to write films.
22 April 2022
I'll never write a film this good. So why bother? I had a somewhat similar idea, but they did it so much better than I ever could. So.. why bother. Nothing matters.

Better ending than the original which isn't saying much. Not perfect.. a few loose ends, buy all-and-all.. satisfying. They wrapped everything up, and hopefully they don't try to rehash it yet again. Let the story end.

Decent movie that's easily forgettable

The ironic part is that both my wife and I remember watching this movie before, but don't remember anything that happened in the movie. Like a joke you know, but forget the punchline.

Possible Missed Game/Plot Loophole.
2 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Not sure if there was a mistranslation into English.. but the rules clearly stated that the object was to simply obtain your opponents 10 marbles by any rules you established. My wife pointed out that all everyone had to do was exchange bags and they both would have won. And wouldn't the whole gganbu concept they adapted either make those two both win or both lose, depending how one views property?

Still very a good episode.

Not particularly scary.. a lot lost to translation.

It's easy to say the movie doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It muddies together Korean folklore and Catholicism with mix results. I'm being kind by giving it the benefit of doubt because I'm not all that knowledgeable on Korean culture. I'm sure there is a story there, I'm just not seeing it.. I mean stuff happens, but characters, despite being well portrayed are inconsistent and often inept. At times funny, but I'm not sure if intentional. It almost has a meaning, about trust, guilt, and sin.. or something. I don't know, but it's probably 45 minutes too long.

Movie deserved more funding.
29 August 2021
Movie suffers from poor cinematography, or at the very least sepia/fuzzy grading makes it look worse than it deserves to be. Probably should be remade or at least just reshot.

Pacing can be slow, but worth watching if you like high concept dramas in the same vein of Groundhog's Day or The Lake House then you'll probably like this. Performances are hit and miss, but I'd imagine that Kurt Kuen manage to attract some decent talent due to his heart breaking film Dear Zachery. Makeup is pretty good too.

Give the movie a shot.

Not much of a surprise.
5 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It felt more like an Unsolved Mysteries re-enactment/Dramatization than a ghost story.. in fact if they were trying to make it feel like a ghost story, they failed. It seems like they made it too clear that it wasn't a ghost story.. no supernatural feeling. Shame, because if done right it could have paid of well.

Waste of time.. both the animators and mine.
9 July 2021
The story is ok.. the dialog is out of place and poorly directed. It feels like this is just cut scenes from an unfinished game without filling the plot between them. Characters teleport and seemingly know things that weren't established, while other things that seem like common knowledge is ignored. If feels more like a long opening that's kind of goes nowhere. Lein and Clair somehow look less attractive. The animation is great in some scenes, terrible in others, feels like the ripped some directly from one of the later games.

RE has potential as a great franchise but they are too busy churning out schlock for a quick pay day.

Has potential to be amazingly epic, but falls apart in the last act.
4 July 2021
The movie should have been over at the end of the third? Fouth? ..act but they just had to shoehorn some final arc that requires far more than a superficial suspensension of disbelief.. motivations and common sense has to be thrown out the window. Though the dichotomy of parent-child mirrored scenes/sub plot were a great touch. Unfortunately, it's not enough to forgive the insult to common sense and human behavior in the name of cinematic heroism. The effects and creature development were fantastic, and world building is strong enough to continue the story in a sequel. JK Simmons shows us once again how great of actor he is even in such a small part and Betty Gilpin was over wehlmingly under-utilized. The name "Tomorrow War" alone is enough to have people confuse this for some schlocky low-budget YA release-before-hollywood movie... so generic, so meh. And people will be missing out on the title alone.

Dispite the disintegration of the last act, still worth watching. Would have given 10 stars if they didn't give up trying making a cohesive plot to just get it done.

I get it... but I have no idea what I get.
14 June 2021
I'm sure its very deep but I'm not exactly sure what it's about exactly. I mean I know it's about grief, loss, the choices we make and most of all sacrifice. But the main plot is lost on me and I don't think I could ever describe in a meaningful conversation. Fans of Donny Darko will probably love this.

Way too predictable. Waste of time.
1 June 2021
Even the final "big reveal" montage soundbites were telegraphed throughout the movie. It's a satire of itself. Love Chris Rock, but he should not have been the main protagonist. It seemed like he was doing a bad impression of Denzel Washington in Training Day.

Its not that bad.. relax.
11 April 2021
The movie isn't exactly expanding the genre of superhero movies... but there were a few choice moments. Is it incredibly predictable? Yes. Is it going to win awards? No. But with a name like Thunder Force... you shouldn't expect too much. Just watch Melissa do her thing.. and don't think about it.

Good but disappointing
13 March 2021
Eva Green is amazing as usual. The story typical French faire. Interesting to see a side you don't normally see in astronaut movies, that others either ignore or gloss over; the impact on family when you leave even if it was a bit melodramatic. However any real feminist strides made is negated by the protagonists inability to control her emotional fuel actions. A trope that's old and tired. Unfortunately without it it, there wouldn't be any drama, and I'm glad they didn't pursue the even more tired trope of "woman in a man's world". Although they kind of touch on it, which was fine because it would feel weird out of place if it ignored. Watch it just for Eva Green

The concept is enough to build a feature out of this, or even a series. A Tom Clancy meets Ender's Game sort of series that would work wonderfully on Netflix.

ET meets Hellraiser but reimagined by the team behind Power Rangers.
30 January 2021
If I was 12 this movie would be perfect. Mimi seems to be written as if she was suppose to be Louise from Bob Burgers. The actress does her best with an impossible performance from any 10-year-old... but it still doesn't the mark. Not sure why they chose to make movie seem like it's from the 90s.. or the least 2000's. But the movie is alright.

Antebellum (2020)

Horror movie in the truest sense of the word.
22 September 2020
Imagine everything you have, for better or worse is taken from you, and you're forced to live a hell you can only dream of in nightmares and read in history books, but unlike dreams you can't wake yourself from this one. That is Antebellum. The movie isn't a masterpiece, but it's definitely worth watching for any horror fan. There are quite a few scenes that wear far too many hats, and some eye rolling moments, but doesn't really take away from what the movie is about. Many reviewers here seem to be confused to what horror is; the atrocities of our societies intensified 3 fold. Revealing to its audience like a bell ring... I'd imagine most of the detractors people are white, and/or never really experience or had to sympathize for people that have it harder than they do. So there reviews seem a bit biased. Sure some of the performances were a bit flag waving (literally), but that's a trope in the genre so people should give a bit of a free pass. But they won't, because that's who they are... as they probably sympathize more with the antagonists than the protagonists. Watch it.

If Gravity was made into a Hallmark TV series.
8 September 2020
Watched first episode of Away on Netflix. My guess someone wrote a Gravity rehash for Lifetime/Hallmark movie of the week (but without anything interesting happening), they passed because space movies are hard and expensive. They then took it to Netflix but was like... "can you make it 10 episodes?" And the writer said ".... yes?". It's got all the sterility of a biopic, but none of the charm of it being based on true events. I don't need my space operas to have a high concept, but there isn't anything here unless you think mayonnaise is too spicy.

The overall writing direction, acting, and direction gets the job done... but nothing to get too excited about. Great show to watch while doing house work or keeping your grandparents distracted from FOX News for a weekend.

Decent enough... but too much lost in translation.
15 June 2020
Its 2020. Zombie stories need to be more relevance and intelligence. (They technically always have been). IDK maybe Brazilians are as shallow and naive as they are portrayed. I honestly don't think they are and it's just the writers that are... so they come off as much. Maybe it's just a terrible translation. IDK. Even if it was there is fairly big plot hole (almost literally) that wasnt in the original Dead Set series from Charlie Booker that show they weren't really thinking when they wrote this... and just copying Booker's homework and changing it enough for Brazilians. They were willing to unceremoniously kill characters... for whatever that's worth (Black Summer did this better). The half hour episodes make it easy to kill an afternoon and it's worth watching if you're curious or at least a horror/zombie movie completionist. I've seen worse.. but it could have been better.

Confusing first act but pulls itself up eventually.
31 May 2020
The whole first act seems like it was someone desperately trying to sound like Aaron Sorkin but at an eleven... (even though Sorkin is already at eleven). Eventually the writing gets dialed back. It's interesting to see exposition to be both over written but under utilized. If one more person mentionened that damn squirrel (or chipmunk) one more time I would have probably turned it off.... glad I didn't because the rest of the movie was a joy to watch. Could have done without the Twilight Zone interludes, which were charming but but ultimately unnecessary. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't, if not concieved as a podcast or radio teleplay. But people would probably just compare it to War of the Worlds more than nk it deserves. Even if is obviously is heavily inspired but Orson Wells drama. I'd still be interested to hear an audio only version. Understandable why this would get rejected from so many film festivals (see trivia section) if they only watched the first act... too bad because its definitely worth watching. Glass it was picked up and distributed.

Could have been something truly magical.
25 May 2020
I'm sure Seth Ickerman was trying to say something here about patriarchal control over women and machine and how they are alike. If it was any more than that then it was probably lost to bong resin. Visually it's like a Heavy Metal magazine made kinky After Effects sex to a prog rock album cover. I mean that in the best possible way. Narratively it tries a little too hard to mean something but without actually saying anything, like bad anime fan fiction, or just anime period. I'll keep an eye on Ickermans career... hopefully he let's other people do the writing... or at least gets better at it. Direction.. I dont know, give him a decent script.. and I'll make my call then. Eventhough my opinion doesn't really matter.

I'm glad this exists I just wish it was better. .
