Superb Show !
19 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
David Jason did a great service with this show. He brought together some of the survivors of the Battle of Britain to discuss their experiences. They do so in the best, most honest, most informative way possible. That is why I recommend this show. As there are so few survivors of World War II left it is important to listen to those who are left tell their story. This film does a superb job of helping them to do that.

Terrific Movie !
19 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This documentary is a must see for all historians of war. It does a find job of explaining the struggles of an American unit in World War II as it struggled to survive some of the most difficult fighting of the war. Not that war fighting isn't always difficult. But this shows the travails while going through some of the most famous battle of World War II. It does a fine job of such. It as such does a fine job of delivering on its stated purpose of showing why our people in uniform deserve respect.

An Important Movie Document !
22 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the most important film shows ever shown on TV. The reason is that it does a great job of explaining what three of the most important film directors of all time think about the movies. Each - Stephen Spielberg, Martin Scorcese, George Lucas - has their own view of what the future of the movies is. Each has their own view of how it will come to arrive. Each interview is extensive. Each interview is informative. It is interesting now in 2019 to see how much of what they predicted came true. Their continuing success as filmmakers prove that their basic tenant of wanting to keep on working hard to improve their craft to add to the number of quality movies out there adds to that interest. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of it is the fact that there is an accompanying book that while not easy to find because it is almost 30 years old is nevertheless worth getting since it does contain transcripts of the interviews since that is what makes it an adaptation. The point is that however you get a chance to discover the contents of this show - on television, some form of electronic download like DVD or the computer or a Netflix showing or the book if those are possible to do with this - this will be one of the best spent times you will ever have relative to learning about the history of the movies.

Odd But Valuable And Worthile Bit Of History.
2 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is an odd choice to have as a film. Two people kissing? At a current commercial length? However it does succeed in two ways. It serves as a good proof of how early it was that film began. It proves that two people enjoying each others company is a beautiful thing regardless of skin colour. So it succeeds well. It is a good bit of history. As such I rate it highly. It deserves to be paid attention to.

An Important Historical Movie !
29 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I found this to be a very valuable historical document. It does its' job very well. It records San Francisco at a very important time in history. Specifically it is before the earthquake. As such it is well worth a look. After all how many times does one get to see a place from the past as it then was? How many times after all does one get to see an accurate record from the past as it was? That is why this is valuable. Think of Rome or London or Tokyo a hundred to some hundreds of years ago. Seeing what they would have been like explains why this film of 1906 San Francisco if valuable as a record of this city.

Worthy Family Drama.
31 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I've seen this short film a couple of times. I am very impressed. Like several others it deals with some heavy issues in a surprisingly short period of time. Family honor, how to define such honor, dignity, honesty, who is family, how is a family made in the social meaning of the word family, how to grow up with this, what this means for the family - heady stuff. However, it deals with it very well. For all of her brief appearance Sandy Sidhu does a good job of the boys' mother. The reason is she suggests a strong hint that she knows the reason for the problem that starts the story (a reason that the plotline suggests is NOT her characters fault in the slightest). All in a good film. A worthy watch if only for the smart way it deals with how to resolve family issues.

An Effective Youth Drama. Possible Spoilers.
3 March 2017
This is a good film that effectively combines coming of age with science fiction. A Goth girl makes a robot inspired by Edgar Allan Poes' works to keep her company at school. It works as a friendship story, an abandonment tale, and a family drama. All in all a good piece of work that deserves acknowledgement.

A Cute Short Film. Possible Spoilers.
3 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this film. It worked on several levels is the reason why. It is a good examination of the working world. It depicts a possible future where robots will have an even bigger impact on society than they do now. It is a good drama about professional roles. It is a good story about characters trying to do their best. All told it isn't a big action piece. However it is a good show about how society is affected by change in this case by the technology we interact with each day in our lives.

Hopefully this will one day be released, Possible Spoilers.
19 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I would really love for this to be released on Blu-Ray. This reason is quite simple. The original series has a DVD release with a Blu-Ray for the theatrical film. The remake is on Blu-Ray. This deserves a similar release. The reason is that there are fans like me available who want to see the continuation. The update to the plot, new characters, how are the old ones doing, what is the new circumstance - all are things that fans of the old show want to see. Richard Hatchs' books are fine additions to the canon. They are fun reads. However a new film would be a terrific addition to it. That is why this is requested. It would be a fun film watch. After all it is the only sequel aside from Galactica 1980 that we have. We all know how well that was received - it is not awful, but it is silly, and BG fans want something somewhat more serious plus also thoughtful too; this is it.

Halloween (2007)

Good Beginning Becomes A Poor Last Half !
1 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I must say that I really wanted to see this film for four reasons. First, Rob Zombie has real talent as an entertainer regardless of what format his story-telling takes place. Second, this is a Halloween movie which means that of course I wanted to see it to find out how Michael Myers is portrayed. Third, there is Danielle Harris in one of her few returns to a big budget film in recent years. Fourth, I really hoped this would add up to a good film precisely for the above three reasons. The problem was that it was an extremely mixed bag for me. The first hour was excellent for the precise reason why some people question the original movies. Little is shown in those films as to why Michael does what he does. Some hint is given, which the sequels expand on quite well, but some expansion is necessary due to John Carpenters' lack of explanation. This film spends much of the first hour providing that explanation. As such I loved that portion of the movie. Learning why Michael Myers turned out to be a - with all apologies to Robert Bloch et al - psycho was a valuable story. However, everything after the scenes right up to the first scenes with Laurie Strode played by Scout Taylor-Compton are a disappointment, and the reason is that there is no characterization on the part of the young woman. Even in the original " Halloween " ( 1978 ) before the television material was added had a lot of scenes and dialogue and behaviour showing them as characters we could relate to. In this film, they are not that much more than stereotypes - Linda as bitchy cheerleader, Annie as the supportive best friend, and Laurie as the reliable girl next door. Stereotypes by themselves are not bad as long as they are made into good characters. That does not happen much here. As well the characters of Tommy and Lindsay and even Dr. Loomis are given shorter thrift in the film in its' last half in particular due to fewer scenes showing them learning of the mysteries of the day ( eg. Tommy isn't bullied at school, Dr. Loomi is never shown investigating Michael Myers childhood home, etc. ). All told it serves as a good character piece for Michael Myers - Daeg Faerch is terrific as the 10-year-old Michael Myers, and Tyler Mane is appropriately vicious as the adult Michael Myers. As a set piece for horror where the story overall is sufficiently well told to be regarded as a classic to match the original, it does have a serious weakness, and that is that it weakens over time rather than building to the crescendo that the original did. That is not to say that the performers did not do a good job with what they had as I believe the acting was all good especially in the case of the leads. It is just that they did not have as much good material to work with as they could have which means while " Halloween " fans may enjoy it they will likely not regard it as the best film in the saga.

This Is A Sensitive Poignant Wonderful Superb Film !
11 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this film in early March 2007 and was greatly impressed with its' wit and charm. It was simply a great example of the perfect family film with its' great characters and wonderful writing. The only misleading thing about " Bridge To Terebithia " ( 2007 ) is its' ads. It is not a Narnia type adventure. The lack of a magic portal to another world means that the creatures seen in the ads are not real. They are simply products of the kids' imaginations. That being said this film does a great job of depicting friendship as it really is. In that sense especially it is just like the book by Katherine Paterson which this film is based on. A sad thing does happen late in the story that will really catch your heart in a tug. The way this film handles this particular plot point only adds to the poignancy of " Bridge To Terebithia " ( 2007 ). Katherine Paterson can be proud of the film her book has become.

The Best Coming-Of-Age Movie I Have Ever Seen !
14 September 2003
This was the first movie I ever saw Ashley Judd in and the first film of Victor Nunez' that I ever say, and boy am I glad I did. Its' quiet tone, its' relaxed pace, its' realistic depiction of a young woman just starting out in life, its' fine depiction of the struggles she has to go through to make her mark in life, the decisions she makes based on real things, the people she meets - there is nothing wrong with this movie. It is as close to movie magic as I have ever seen outside of the " Star Wars " movies, and, given what those films are like, that means this film deserves a high rating indeed. Ashley Judds' acting, Mr. Nunez'writing, and its' great simple worthwhile story make this a fine coming-of-age story and a wonderful movie.

Spring Fever (1982)
I Have Fond Memories Of This Movie.
23 August 2003
I remember seeing this film several times during my teen years and I remember thinking that it was the sort of movie I could watch over and over again without ever getting tired of it. I still feel that way, perhaps because I haven't seen it in a number of years, but the fact remains that it is both one of the best summer movies and one of the best sports movies I remember seeing. Definitely a film I would recommend to others and to myself again as well, if only to see if it has held up very well over the past twenty years.

The Funniest TV Show I Have Ever Seen
23 August 2003
Anyone wanting to get some pure joy out of TV should buy as much material as they can from this TV show. I remember it from reruns in the late 1970's and it stuck in my mind as one of the most creative and original TV shows ever made. Brucie the non-functioning Frankenstein monster twin, the dancing werewolf, and of course Billy Van as the Count - all of this added up to the funniest hour per week ( or day, I should say, since I think it aired on a daily basis in reruns at least ) that I have ever seen. And Vincent Price as the Gate Guardian who quoted ghostly poetry only added to the shows' appeal for me. I highly recommend this show.

Earth: Final Conflict (1997–2002)
One Of The Five Best Sci-Fi Shows On Television
27 April 2003
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER ALERT ! 4TH SEASON CLOSER, 5TH SEASON OPENER, AND EARLIER SEASONS PLOTLINES HINTED AT.

Apparently I'm one of the few people who LIKED the direction the fifth season went in. The reason is because I was curious to know what would happen with the Taelons when they and the Jaridians finally joined into one species. What would it be like ? What would its' motives be ? The fact of a race even more manipulative than the Taelons, and more devoted to fighting than the Jaridians, was for me a natural extant of the shows plotlines that had gone before in previous seasons. I mean this in more ways than one. Not only did the audience deserve to see what the result of the Taelon-Jaridian joining was, but earlier episodes - for example, Auger tapping into Da'an's energy through his ( Auger's ) computer linkup - hinted at the existence of this previous race. As I said, a natural extant of the series development.

P.S. My other four favourite Sci-Fi TV series are " Star Trek " ( the original; big surprise, huh ), " Star Blazers ", " Robotech ", and " Battlestar Galactica ".

It's Badness Is Why I Liked It !
23 March 2003
Yes, the film is cheesy ! No, the script isn't any good ! Yes, the acting is over the top and the storytelling methodology is silly and the special effects aren't quite special ! That was the point. The actors were playing the film for fun, they did so because they were in on the joke ( ie. they knew film was a comedy to begin with ), and THAT is why this film is fun to watch - because the cast knew this film was made basically to give audiences something to laugh with ( and at ) & it succeeds brilliantly at this precisely intended goal.

Kidd Video (1984–1985)
I think this show was nothing but fun.
21 February 2003
NOTE: CONTAINS INFO OF TWO SONG TITLE, FOR THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED.

For me, this was one of the seminole kids' shows growing up. It had everything that a kid could want: energy, humour, talented actors, good music, and - best of all - fantasy. I mean, kids being able to travel to another dimension and get all these magical powers and be able to beat evil no matter what the odds were wherever they went ? Yep, it was definitely fun. My favourite songs from this show were " TLC " and " Video Romeo ". I highly recommend this series to anyone else, if only because it - despite criticisms of it - ten times better than even the best of some of the crud passing itself off as children's TV shows nowadays. So hats off to Robby Rist and the others' involved in the show. Clearly, you are smart enough to know quality work when it comes along to get involved in it.

Legend (1985)
I Can't Believe Ridley Scott Made This Film !
20 February 2003
NOTE: INFORMATION ABOUT THE OPENING SEQUENCE AND AS PLOT DETAILS HINTED AT HERE.

I have recently had the chance to see this film in its original 90 minute form, and I still can't believe how bad it was ! The special effects were lousy under the best of circumstances, and the opening sequence which set the plot in motion looked good for maybe two minutes, but only because of the good back light and because the unicorns are, as their equine brethren are anyway, such beautiful creatures. In every other respect, however, I agree with you. Your opinion of the special effects notwithstanding, the overall effect of the film as a bore is bang-on because it is a bore; the script didn't compel me to like it at all, and the story is one that would - well, let's just say (without giving away too much of the plot) that " The Princess Bride ", which covers some of the similar territory, does so in a much more literate and humorous way. This is largely because it has both a script, a story, and visuals that are consistently good throughout the film. All this makes it tough for me to think Tom Cruise and Ridley Scott made this film for anything other than the money.
