Solitary Man (2009)

Good to see but don't expect too much.

In my view this was not ready for a breakdown let alone shoot. The script needed at least six more months of rewrites.

Because of this even though the idea is great and the same cast would easily do it much better justice if the screenplay was ready and if the direction allowed them a little bit more freedom.

Characters seem to be outlines, barely painted with broad strokes, flat, unfinished. Director did not give the actors freedom they needed to salvage the situation and perhaps they didn't feel like investing themselves deeper into the film, perhaps realizing the screenplay is not ready for the prime time.

The story also need3ed further development, because on screen it comes off as flat and doesn't suck you in, characters are shallow and two faced at the very least, their actions are disconnected.

What could be a fantastic scene between two of my favorite actors(Douglas and Poots) is very flat, in big part due to writing and direction but actors didn't invest themselves in it either, it's very cut and dry and I don't think the range of both character's actions in other places in the film makes it stick.

The ending which could easily be my favorite type of ending failed to realize it's potential as well, this would be due to direction and cinematography, both distant and not really supporting the crucial moment.

Biggest problem is the unpolished writing, characters are merely stereotypical outlines, I would like to believe the exact same cast could do a million times better just six months of rewrites later.

The Double (I) (2011)

complete waste of time
6 June 2012
Normally any self respecting actor asks "Why?", not one of the actors in this complete waste of time asked this question once. They took the money and did what they were told, busy trying to look good while at it. This is a perfect example of a production that is about nothing but burning money. Starting with the writing, full of holes and completely unrealistic dialogue, but then good actors could fix that, these guys were in it only to get paid and made no effort whatsoever to raise the value of the production, so many times they just stood there waiting for the "Cut!". No one in this film believes in their character, it's all staged, shallow, unbelievable and stiff. I have many questions after watching this, all of them begin with "Why?" none of them is answered within. It's not enough to put things together by throwing money and names at it, this thing has no vision and doesn't create anything that would resemble a reality to submerse yourself in. Why would you waste your time watching this?

Rubber (2010)

amazing

What do you get when you have some extra money you don't need and a simple mechanical device hidden in a tire to make it roll on fairly flat surface? You get rubber. The funny thing is it doesn't fit any of the categories it is listed under here on IMDb. It was funny for a few moments so I guess comedy categorization would fit, other than that it doesn't evoke anything whatsoever. Interestingly enough all the things listed at the start of film as having no reason, each and every one of them has good reasons, maybe except for the E.T. being brown, so I guess I'm curious why would they list it with all the other examples? It is a festival of pointlessness but it fails as that as well, viewers are actually inclined to look for the meaning in this garbage, so the creators failed in creating garbage, is that sad or what? It blows my mind that anyone would try to look for hidden meanings in this piece, there are none by design, but in execution it fails, it creates room for thought and invites interpretation which it can't support. Please give me a fraction of their budget and we can save this whole planet...

Nothing (2003)

must see

Not just funny, very intelligent and thoughtful. Under guises of comedy left to our imagination is everything else. While you are laughing you can't help but reflect, what is it that really matters and can't just disappear in our lives. Flawless writing and performances. It's perfect the way it is, including all the timing of all the elements. It's easy to see if you get it that all the negative reviews stem from the simple fact that the reviewer was unable to grasp all of the elements of the film. This was very refreshing to watch and way above the current on the nose crop of crap out there. Great to see something intelligent after a long while.

There is no reason for this movie to exist.

Tried very hard to find anything about this production to redeem it, but if you start with awful writing then there is not much you can do. I couldn't find a shred of truth in any of the characters, all the actors were basically acting, they had to, none of them developed any connections with the character they were portraying, coming back to the bad writing. Direction was also non existent. Clever editing to be sure but even that did not salvage the production, it's a complete miss, waste of time. Lucky for you I had to watch it, so you can avoid it.

There is really no reason for this movie to exist other then to burn some money while making it.

I can't even say that the idea was interesting, it wasn't...
