What a wonderful programme
27 May 2023
I happened on this by accident but it pulled me in and transfixed me. The programme tells beautiful human stories from the past in a loving and respectful way. Many people have said that the National Trust and the BBC have tarnished their reputations in recent years. This programme is a great riposte to those criticisms.

So much attention to detail is paid throughout the series and it showcases what both institutions do so well... informing, educating, entertaining in an inimitable and charming way. There is a lovely British eccentricity about this show too and it provides glimpses into the lives of the dedicated characters who help us to learn from the past to avoid the mistakes and make a better future.

Some appalling acting spoils the series
5 November 2022
Superb performances by Matt Smith, Paddy Considine and Bill Paterson. However there are some truly dreadful displays from far too many actors in this show. They lack gravitas and stumble over their lines and take one out of the scene. I have no idea what happened here. Surely the director should have got weak performers to redub their lines? This is very much an inferior version of Game of Thrones. It is the Scrappy Doo to Scooby Do. I wasted far too many hours on this waiting for it to start for it to only meander with only the odd blip. Game of Thrones at its best set the bar very high but this series does not even come close.

This is NOT the way
14 January 2022
This is becoming embarrassing. The teenage biker gang was ludicrous, 'mate'. The chase scene at 15mph was pathetic. Dialogue was clunky and very poorly written. It felt like poor fan fiction. Avoid the twisted grammar please, as well as words like 'dank' and 'gak' (please look up the meaning of gak... are you idiots, or just trolling us?). Character motivation is non-existent and non-sensical. The killer monster has feelings and is suffering from depression. The trained killer wookiee pulls Boba out of hibernation to kill him rather than kill him in his sleep.

Just utter nonsense.

Dreary

I hate when a drama gets PR to encourage people to watch it when the sad fact is that it is a dreary, miserable, empty story that has no merit and is thoroughly depressing. What an utter waste of human effort depicting these two wretched individuals with no apparent redeeming features.

Absolutely nobody emerges well from this shambles least of all the BBC or the director who mangled this.

Shameless Fleabag Ripoff
28 September 2019
No. This isn't the brilliant Ben Moor radio drama. It is a very weak copy of the BBC comedy 'Fleabag'.

Awkward girl who has odd relationship with men. Dead parent. Sibling rivalry with her sister. Interesting priest. Flashbacks. Blah. Blah. Blah.

Are there any original ideas these people can come up with? I can't believe I wasted 30 minutes of my life on this trash.
