Much better than the 2008 "Cloverfield" movie, this is about a gripping & intense story and raw tension rather than special effects and crushing things.
10 March 2016
If this is going to be an anthology or if this is going to be followed by that rumored third installment that has been recently spoiled by J.J. Abrahms, I can say that nobody doubts about the secretly marketed "10 Cloverfield Lane" is a great movie on its own. And a movie that if it were spoiled by someone here or at any review would be cruel.

Since the start it reveals to be a movie that doesn't hide an ace, but a hundred.

The pace can be a little slow at the first half only to add more and more tension, hooking the audience and introducing them into the movie like they were one of the people inside that bunker.

John Goodman will be a real trend the future days thanking its superb performance. He's so twisty, complex developed character. He and Mary Elisabeth Winstead make the movie shine alongside the story.

The story is so little, then so game-changer, with twists and turns that are smart rather than empty. It's one of that makes you guess all the time.

The ending is more of a bang than a whimper. Even when it succumbs to the action and polemic moves, it will leave you on a grim and high note, pestering for another outing if it's any good like this.

If the "Cloverfield" that started it all was about speaking without breath and CGI scares, this "10 Cloverfield Lane" is about deeper intentions, deeper tension and personal stuff that is scarier than a giant monster. While the connection to that movie is not so remarkable until the finale, this installment is so brilliant on its own, so well marketed (without ruining any twist) and so well ended that will surely please any viewer who were looking for a damn good movie. This is a scary movie like the classic ones. Don't miss it.

Craig's Best Bond Movie
26 October 2015
Just came out of the theater and I'm literally blowing away! As a moviegoer and movie lover looking for a good entertaining is simply irresistible not to like this movie even just a little. But if your genre is the action or you are a Bond fan-boy (but a real fan-boy, the one who knows that Bond is a dark killer with a great sense f humor as well a troubled human being and not just a fantasy and silly spy in silly missions with a handful of gadgets) then SPECTRE will be a total feast for you.

Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig give us another triumph after the polemic "Skyfall" and this time both have managed to get a perfect balance between that intimate psychology from the previous outing and the nostalgia from a classic Bond movie (with quality, not just passable) that hadn't had hit the theater in a very while. By that way we found ourselves in a very Bond centric movie (perhaps the only one in the whole franchise in which Craig is the absolute protagonist without being overshadowed even by the handsome villain) that explores and expands the character beyond the limits from the last third of Skyfall and a truly genuine adventure full of suspense and crazy twists to maintain the attention.

Across many places (Rome, Tangiers, Austria and coming back to London for a classic suspenseful climax) we found Bond getting started in a personal mission out from the MI6 (although later he will enlist some of his confidence partners with him) that drives him from a enigmatic widow (Monica Bellucci steals the scene alongside Craig) to a beautiful and looking innocent Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux) until coming face to face to Franz Oberhauser (Christoph Waltz doing himself stills being fitted for the role and gives chills in his scenes with Craig).

The story is bigger than Skyfall, Quantum and Casino Royale all together. And that's funny because this movie is really connected to all of them (another thing that makes me love Daniel Craig's Bond era). And marrying the credible word (political games, drones included) with the preposterous touch of any of the classic movies of Bond (Oberhauser, his hidden base, his plan) as well giving the Bond past a lot more of light and an effective closure by the end makes SPECTRE to succeed over any negative expectation and to give the audience the most entertaining outing coming from Craig and probably his best Bond yet (anyone knows if he's returning for another one even at another studio?). It's clearly a movie for those of you who are truly fans of Craig's unique run, but for all the haters too (because that lack of Bondish elements are there and most notably than ever).

The humor is back (a drunken conversation with a rat makes the funniest and most hilarious moment) even at times that you couldn't imagine (the torture scene is intense, much better than the classic one in Casino Royale, but handed with dark laughs at some parts). The action is crazy and shot with class (the one shot that opens the movie is the most beautifully complex the franchise has given us so far) and the script goes along the way without going down at any moment or being lazy. It tries hard to touch a lot of plots into a big one to the final part of the film and that implies to focus on some parts more than others. But all the movie wants to be seen and experienced is explored and is a hell of a ride.

SPECTRE is the most enjoyable Daniel Craig Bond film (and probably his farewell-with-a-bang), and the best Bond movie in recent memory. I did not exactly know what to expect for this installment after being put to sleep after the breathtaking Skyfall (so all the hype surrounding it) but not such a bold movie like this. If he (Craig) really leaves after this one, he will achieve something that Connery, Moore & Brosnan failed to do: say goodbye to the character on a stunning high. My personal ranking of Daniel Craig as James Bond: SPECTRE (1º) / Skyfall - Casino Royale (2º, both deserve it) / Quantum of Solace (3º).

Unmissable (also hard and touching) finale to one of the best comebacks ever produced (A really stunning and powerful finale)
14 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
WOW! They did it! And I truly liked it despite the very edgy and painful moments inside. Hands down! This has been one terrific season of 24. The best since the classic ones. The only one of the whole series which really got better episode after episode until reaching an explosive climax. Seriously! The time gap and the recovery of the energy and excitement have been great ads to the breakneck pace and really solid plot. These 12 episodes show that an entertaining show can really transcendent that easy title card to become in one of the top shows.

This final episode is the best of this special day without any doubts, but also one of the best of the whole show ever. Probably the best season finale since the seasons one or five. It's a unique episode of the show too because the time jump finally happens and works very well. We are familiarized with that usual 40 minutes that shows only one hour and this installment showing thirteen left me worried about it. But there's space for everything: action, suspense, character development and (more important of all) drama. The finale is powerful and shocking. Truly shocking. The showdown between Jack and Cheng reminded me the excitement and drama of that finale with Victor Drazen at the dock. But the better things were about to come along the episode. And it must be experienced. The bet that I made previous week was right: this is the most emotional episode of the series. Pure excitement and emotion, reward and betrayal to the viewers and fans expectations (but without lying to anyone), nice turns and fatal end ways. This episode is not just about the epilogue. It's more than a powerful twist (that I won't spoil, I won't be so bastard: you have to watch it). It's careful about the whole "hour" keeping you at the edge of the seat.

Sean Callery does a fantastic job with the soundtrack. Jon Cassar is a magnificent director. The writers have managed to deliver one ending that could serve as a series finale (or ending one kind of era inside the storyline) but leaving a very little of hope of a chance of returning (maybe using some new characters or testing new formats or story lines). My opinion since the beginning was that "Live Another Day" had to the be the Final Season of 24. I won't give away my personal opinion by viewing this finale (because I would say too much), but let me say that I'm impressed and satisfied despite the cracking nerve and the unstoppable tension.

Returning to the actors: Kiefer Sutherland and William Devane deserve Emmys nominations (at least) and the universal acclaim for their performances. While Sutherland ends Bauer on the highest note possible, Devane is the most shocking character in his one. His moments approaching the end were unforgettable to any fan and a class act for any viewer. Both are the most crucial roles. Tate Donovan also makes a great job one last time alongside Kim Raver. Yvonne Strahovski is brilliant as Kate Morgan (possibly the best Bauer girl because she is so flawless and tough that she could really live without him… a very interesting point for the future). The rest of the actors are very good.

Overall, "Live Another Day" is one of the best seasons of 24 ever made, a great farewell to the story arc and one of the best shows of this year. This season must be experienced for anyone (fans and other viewers alike) and its finale is a truly perfect and complex episode which leaves the bar at the unexpected highest possible. A hard and touching ending that has the closure that we needed (for better and for worse) and manages to end at the top of the game. If this is really the last one (at least as we all once knew the show), they couldn't deliver a better outing. Congratulations to everyone who made it possible.

Incredible, Amazing, Unforgettable, Shocking... Tragic. I personally bet that the next (and final) one will be unmissable...
7 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I am literally speechless after this shocking episode. Without any doubts: the best that Live Another Day has offer us yet. Even I have serious doubts about next week final episode if that could surpass or live up the expectations from this one. Because this one has all the reasons why this show is still relevant and all the power that owns even after all these years and after a superb but more standard start.

You wont expect the twists and the tragic shocks of this penultimate installment. The reasons of Cheng's attack and whereabouts, the fight of Chloe to free herself from the Chinese, the sacrifice of Heller and Mark (the moment in which is confronted with Jack and Heller about his dark side with the Russians is the culmination to the whole story arc since the first episode) for a greater good, the Audrey's help...

Then you have the suffering from Jack and Kate. Two tortured souls in the middle of a global crisis. But the most important thing is not exactly that crisis, but their personal powder to go ahead and end everything with a glorious bang. These characters are the best of the miniseries and their plots carry the quality of the show to the highest possible after all that we saw from the 24 universe.

The performances are unbelievable, the script is taken to extreme levels and even having all that plots together in the final episodes, everything is approaching to a explosive and dramatic conclusion. Although I think that the best word is not dramatic but tragic. Really tragic. If my thoughts are right, get ready to watch next week the most exciting, epic and saddest finale since the first series of the original run.

Now everything is done. I'm thinking of this season like the last of all. Everything has been set. Now it's time to conclude.

If all the "transitional" or "set up" episodes were like this one...
30 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Live Another Day is running out of time and reaching explosive turns. If you thought that this one wouldn't live up from the previous one: you are wrong. This is entertainment at its best. And I'm considering seriously to place this special event as one of the best things that 24 has ever give to the audience ever.

The confrontation between Jack and Navarro is very well done and ended in a spectacular fashion. Also that nice comeback to the London Underground trying to stop Chloe and Adrian reminded me to "Skyfall" (what a shame that Jack didn't go down stairs by a more epic way).

But I think that the some of highlights of this episode were the interrogation time between Kate and Navarro (intense), the argument between Audrey and Mark (excellent Tate Donovan) and the high tension in the final minutes of this episode.

What a terrific ride! One of the best and most consistent of the series by setting up every important plot point to the finale. I hope that the finale will live up my expectations.

Jack Bauer's attack is also The Beginning of the End
23 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
If you are one of those (like me) who were asking themselves why there wasn't silent clock for Heller in previous episode now you have your answer: Heller is alive. Another 24 trick! It reminded me the plot of faking the death of David Palmer at the end of Season 1. This twist is very shocking and it could destroy some expectations from fans or critics who were astonished by the balls from previous installment. But this twist opened another terrific and extremely entertaining episode for the series which while it doesn't reach the weighs from the previous ones, it delivers some stunning sets ups for the future and finale of the show. This is another blast!

The performances were great and the writing is bold and suspenseful. Jack Bauer finally has his own power in this unforgettable day and his action sequences and his deadly shot against Margot's integrity is awesome and thrilling.

Of course, there's more inside. The plot is bigger and has more interesting elements handed together very well. I will keep some things in secret to make you enjoy as I did.

The ninth episode may not have the exactly same excellent quality for me and the faked dead of Heller may earn some criticism or disapproval for some. But it stills being better than the beginning, earning another perfect mark overall, taking our breath away... And there are only 3 episodes left. And this is only the beginning of the end.

Excellent way to celebrate the 200th episode of the show
16 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Live Another Day continues raising its own bar and delivering reasons to make us believe that this is one of the strongest seasons of the series ever. This is one of a hell wild episode which relies more in the characters rather the action, but also has action and suspense to please any fan.

We have never seen the President doing the things that Heller done in this one before. It's extremely suspenseful, interesting and finally shocking. It leaves you pinning for more but also guarantees you that this could be the end. For a few moments, this reminded me the 18th episode of Season 3 involving Ryan Chapelle. That's the only thing I will give away.

Not just William Devane is terrific. Kiefer Sutherland mixes his deeper feeling along his mechanical and killer measures in this one. Kim Raver pulls the crying tear meanwhile Tate Donovan continues to support the cast in the same excellent way.

All the subplots continue to follow their paths and to connect into a big one. All the cast and the performances were terrific. The direction is great. This episode is truly powerful. Guys, the end is here. What's next?

The kind of 24 season that I was hoping for
9 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I'm truly glad of the return of this show, although I don't wish that it would return again. I want that it ends on a high. And Live Another Day had a good start to then becoming in a shocking and electrifying ride. It's fun, riveting and made with a quality script and moments. Things would be predictable or not so surprising. But the writers know that. Then the best thing they can do is to deliver fun, energy and then some.

The chase between the drone and Jack's car was an amazingly tense moment (one of the funniest outings of the whole series for me), also the highlight of the episode. Also showing Navarro as the mole trying to clean his way was exciting even if that kind of plots are predictable. The female villain has become in one of the best of the whole show from now on. The actions that she make to destroy any menace are being terrific and some surprising. This character is being a truly fresh and provocative addition to the legacy of the show.

And we have to keep present the Russians fact: they are getting closer to Jack and his actions for sure. Sort of Chinese in Season 5. Oh my... That could be a fantastic turn for this final episodes.

Live Another Day looks like unstoppable right now. If it doesn't succumb to silly subplots, extremely unrealistic turns or so-so twists in its final episodes everything hints that this season of 24 will be ranked ahead the last three and at the level of the golden ages of the show. Also it would deliver a fitting finale. Right now it's really better than Season 3 of Homeland (I say this because it's a show that is usually compared with this one and shares the same creators, writers and directors).

Californication: 30 Minutes or Less (2014)
Season 7, Episode 8
7/10
Are the things becoming to heat up in the final season?
3 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Californication is too much far from that perfect first and unique season that should been the end of everything. After that the show tried hard to reboot itself or to last its storyline until the impossible. This final season was just entertaining. But the ending of this episode was truly unexpected. It was shocking. The most credible word of the show since Season 3 finale or Season 4 first two episodes. And that gives me a little hope.

Will Californication find itself at the end? I don't want to see Karen dying but I don't want to watch Hank and Co doing the same hundred of times too.

If this twist opens the door to a climatic and nostalgic finale, I will be so happy with it!

24 builds up the final hours of its special day... And that's cool!
2 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is another proof of what this series is capable for in terms of entertainment, pace and tension. It stays true to the plot and also pulls the viewer into the thrill ride that the last 6 episodes would be. Don't forget that. With this episode the first half is over. And if I previously wrote that it could be a little less interesting, I have to say that after watching it again it's the best of the miniseries so far!

Jack and Kate working together is the highlight of an episode that works very well in the show terms. It feels rushed but in the best way. And the action, twists (Navarro is the mole game) and builds up for what is to come (terrific climax) is put together in a superb way.

24 can only surprise nowadays by the power of its characters and the power of its dilemmas. Not for its action or its urgency. But this episode is the best transitional (and the best pay off for some) episode ever and builds up the climax of the miniseries in a terrific way. Now there's no going back.

If this is the end of everything (24 should end, please listen to me!) it's gonna be a very big bang!

Tom Cruise meets his Groundhog Day with a surprising, well told story and energetic entertainment
28 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Edge of Tomorrow (EOT for me) will be the most surprising blockbuster of this year (maybe along with X-Men: Days of Future Past) for doing its job so well that beats every expectation about what it has to offer. A storyline about one man that is shown to us doing the "same" things every time could be dull. But EOT has a thoughtful script full of turns and fun that entertains and allows to Cruise to do new things inside that particular Groundhog Day.

I wont spoil anything because the movie is full of valuable twists, surprisingly good chemistry between Cruise and Emily Blunt (Full Metal B**ch) and it has an involving script aside of the spectacular action sequences. The first one in the movie is totally amazing. But the rest is as that good. The movie clearly develops in the action and the riveting pace. It offers what a great blockbuster should be and it reaches that superb goal.

Also Tom Cruise gives his best performance in so many time. Maybe, I'm not joking, this is his best performance ever. For the first time he is not doing an smiling hero. He is a coward. He is a scared and inexperienced soldier who has to learn to be more skillful (and to escape from his personal loop) every time he returns to the "same" day. And Cruise is wonderful in that role. You really don't recognize him. Forget his frequent smiling, his heroic or possible macho topics. This could be a new and groundbreaking role inside his career even if you are not a big fan of him (I'm not going as far as saying that this is his best movie or the most enjoyable one of all, but this movie could be one of his best ones too). And when a movie has a star doing his job properly and much better than expected, a great script and a riveting pace (the movie is never boring) the whole concept has the job done. And that's the case of EOT. Also the stellar performances from Bill Paxton and Brendan Gleeson are truly good.

In fact I'm glad that this one came after "Oblivion". That one was good, but this one is different and much better. Don't expect "Oblivion 2" or its same style because you will be wrong.

Please, trust me and go to the theater to enjoy this wonderful, original and surprising entertainment. It delivers much more than you could expect, delivers the best Cruise (in so many time that I personally think that this is Cruise at his best) and delivers a clever story with a good twist. Enjoy!

Poignant episode in a way you won't expect
26 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
After the excellence and that old rushing quality of that last week 24 which reminded us why this show was one of the best in its firsts years I was expecting something of a letdown with this one. And many could argue against me or in favor to me, but this fifth episode reaches the perfect mark for me thanking its powerful drama and its riveting feelings between the main characters in the story.

The story can be more of the same and that thing pushes 24 out of a league that recent shows like Hannibal can afford. But in classic 24 terms: this episode is a triumph. The first episode of the entire miniseries where the characters and their choices are the drivers in the story instead the action or the breathtaking pace.

This is 24, yes, but improved if we put it in comparison with many of the episodes of the original series that looked like transitional ones. This could even beat the previous one in order to become the best of the season yet. Jack and Audrey are one remarkable proof of it.

Let's see what happens next! Just one last thing: please make this season of 24 the last. Despite it's being a great time at the TV, this show has no more to offer. Everything has been said and to continue this just will put the level down to the worse.

The most intense episode of Live Another Day yet! It concludes the presentation phase for good! Terrific!
19 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
While some people found previous episode weaker than the first two I clearly disagree (Episode 3 is as great as the previous for me thanking the character development). Anyways I'm convinced that they will find every answer to possible complaints with this action-packed fourth episode. Finally it delivers things that we really care about and keep us on the edge of our seats. If the last three episodes were great and truly enjoyable this last one is the best so far. Also it works as a spectacular conclusion to the presentation phase of the show by finally putting all characters connected in the same storyline and in front of the same menaces.

The familiar twists and the predictable plot is compensated by superb action, stylish narrative and strong suspense. The hostage situation with Jack Bauer was the highlight of the episode for me. Since The White House Siege in Season 7 I wasn't so thrilled. Although Audrey's character finally begins to have a deeper role in the day and the moments with her feelings about Jack is truly remarkable too. Honorable mention to that intense dialog between Jack and President Heller after all these years without speaking each other. All these proofs (with the actions of CIA and Margot, that take place at the same time) take the audience to the truth: This ride could be finally as rushed as our hell of expectations.

Every character continues their progression along the events of the day. And if this one is not original or refreshingly surprising (that Hostage situation one more time, that mixed feelings about Jack one more time…) it does manage to be cool, fast paced and superb. Also it delivers the most thrilling cliffhanger at the end for me.

24: Live Another Day stills offering more of the same but this time delivers another great entertaining doing what it does best and without putting down the bar raised in previous episodes. I can't wait for what's next. First perfect episode of the season!

I love the use of the classic score from Sean Callery at the very end of the episode when the hostage is over with a promising twist. It gave me chills and truly golden remembers. Perfect end.

Godzilla (2014)
6/10
After thinking about it, I must replace my own past words...
12 May 2014
I said once i went out the theater:

Godzilla finally found the perfect movie for itself yet. The story works as well the pace and the special effects. The first half of the movie is absolutely perfect with all the destruction that the monster provokes. It leaves to the viewer unforgettable scenes. But the second half is not at all a disappointment. The action sequences are effective and spectacular. Godzilla is truly frightening. Young viewers are advised! The acting is also so nice delivering solid performances and helping the drama. Bryan Cranston may be a standout but Elisabeth Olsen is a scene stealer and a very important role here. With any doubts I had an encounter with one of the best movies of the year.

But now, after some days I say:

This is a riveting entertaining that will please the moviegoers. But it's s disappointment in terms of the monster itself and its fights against the other. An important lack.

The pace, the tension and the performances were absolutely terrific in this one
12 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Third episode out twelve and the level never drops. Live Another Day is being a fantastic comeback to Jack Bauer and a truly high quality season. This time, the episode highlight for me was the initial development over Margot Al-Harazi. Michelle Fairley is fitting in 24 legacy as one of most promising villains of Bauer as her personal story and her targets for revenge gave me shivers. Maybe since Nina Myers or Mandy any woman looked so brutal or sadistic. Although this time she attacks through drones.

The rest of the performances are very strong and the script continues to deliver in a very satisfying and addictive way. Kiefer Sutherland is the man of the show. The locations in London are being more exposed than in the beginning as the subway is the one of the main spaces in which the episode reaches the highest tense moments.

Maybe the "more of the same" feeling and desperate will to see the next installment not just for entertainment but to complete characters arcs and possible flaws of story in this one are the main reason to not to give a perfect score. But this is being a terrific event for the show. This is the answer to all my complaints four years ago. And just I hope the show continue to deliver in this way until the very ending. Because in that way, Live Another Day would deliver an impressive ending to the high octane saga.

NOTE: I changed my vote for the series from 8 to 9. But the eight stars remains unchanged. Please trust me or check my ratings in my profile. For me, the show has a 9 out 10 right now.

Thank you!

Superb Start Of Another Day
5 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Without giving away too much (mainly because this beginning shows that talking too much about the premise can destroy some of the surprising twists to come) I say that if this the ending of 24 (I HOPE SO!!) this is gonna be that hell of a season that we were expecting from the eighth and final of the original series.

Jack Bauer is running and is crazier and angrier than the last times we saw him. This beginning builds up his character and his new motivations slowly without looking boring to the audience but far more interesting than the last turns. He even doesn't speak anything until 30-35 minutes of the episode. His look and his face are colder than ever. His character is fueled of suspense and looks that is gonna be a little mysterious and twisted. That's the only thing I'll give away. Trust me, I'm not a fake user to hype the show. I only want that anyone experience it in the same way that I did and without any more spoilers.

There's a lot of formula. This miniseries looks like it won't change anything in the premise (attacks, trust no one -even Bauer, Oh My God-, president in danger...) but is far more entertaining, far more interesting and far more intense than the last three seasons episode premier. This is one of the best series' start! (if we make comparisons with the original one). That says too much from the quality. Playing in a game that the writers and the creators know too much well and playing it fair and without any resurrection or any ludicrous twist, the writing is top notch and delivers fast pace and great entertaining.

I think that the reviews from critics (Rotten Tomatoes or Metacritic) are bashing a little the show. It deserves a better note (they are placing this series at the same level of the disappointing final season!). Episode 1 from Live Another Day could be more of the same, but with substantial changes, fresh action, new and great characters and an interesting menace.

Great first hour! Oh... And Welcome Back, Jack!

Mantains The Level And Delivers Mostly Wonderful Entertaining
5 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Second Episode introduces the changes to the old formula (although there is little difference, and no jump forwards yet) and succeeds. It continues to be intense and rushed. If there's weakness in the plot is very well covered. The new characters are introduced deeper and the plot moves forward with class and in spectacular fashion.

Jack is now doing what he does best. He is on a race to stop attacks against President Heller... and then some? The twists won't be so shocking as in the golden days of the show but it's spectacular, it's true to its plot and doesn't have intention to boast an awful subplot or any ludicrous thing. The best thing of this new series (after its transition to the present days and introducing technology and drones as an unthinkable menace) is that are just 12 episodes. So the main plot is always present and always in movement and urgency. There is no transitions. Although there's dialogs and characters development. But in this second episode (very much like the first) is a great amount of action. The suspense never stops.

The actions and the limits that Jack Bauer is crossing to its goal are being very exciting and fairly fresh to the character.

Live Another Day has hooked me. And it will hook everyone who want to enjoy the bumpy ride. I hope that the level will be the same to the rest of episodes and I hope that this will reach an unforgettable and worthy climax to the series. The plot is promising and the execution delivers!

24 (2001–2010)

Despite it lacks of powerful final seasons, 24 is a truly great TV show that leaves an important and enduring legacy of entertaining and quality
5 May 2014
Seasons 1 to 5 are incredible. Despite its limited plot (like I wrote in my review for its sequel: Live Another Day), it's a masterpiece of pace, storytelling, twists, entertaining and action.

From Seasons 6 to 8 the things changed. Season 7 is the only which is very good, close to the greatness for its riveting entertaining. But despite the show in fact was a let down, it always kept me hooked when other dramas didn't. I always wanted to see what happens next when any episode ended and some of the episodes of the show (even in the weakest season) are the best of the best in the TV history.

It deserved a better treatment in the later times, but then 24 was already a benchmark and a masterpiece of action and suspense. This isn't as perfect as other shows (see Breaking Bad), but deserves the greatest remember for all that times in which there was no Breaking Bad or Tue Detective or any other show or miniseries and just 24 was the best show of television. The bar now is rising (maybe too much and because of that Live Another Day has the things and the hype difficult) but was this show the one which started that.

10/10 (despie its weakness).

This Won't Be Breaking Bad or True Detective... But It's Gonna Be (the good) 24. What else You Want?
5 May 2014
Since the original series premiered in 2001 and ended in 2010 the television has changed too much. TV Shows like Breaking Bad or the newest True Detective (just only with its powerful and unique Season one) showed than the gold era of the small screen wasn't dead and the bar could be raised far beyond the sky. That kind of shows included a truly intense and masterful psychological touches in the personality of its characters and in its stories. That stories and characters kept growing and growing never stopping challenging the audience (and our hype). A TV show like 24 had that amazing point in its era... until the last three seasons ruined it all. A show like 24 can't be a psychological show or an incredibly intelligent show because of its limited plot. In the first seasons the menaces were global but very intimating, close to the main character (the invincible Jack Bauer)and truly intense and groundbreaking to the television. But if the plot and the type of storyline were becoming repetitive since the beginning as a mechanical of the series, the last three seasons were truly disappointing in that terms. After a masterpiece like Season 5 was (in the same level of the very first one) the next season was make just for business and money reasons. Without a proper storyline and repetitive action, the show began its downfall. Season 7 was good. Very good. Could be one of the most entertaining of the series and the truly remarkable season of the last three. But it was no Series 1-5. And Season 8... Despite the last ten episodes were tense and heartbreaking, overall was disappointing and without the strength that a final season (like Breaking Bad, for example) could and MUST have. The ending could be fine to the season, but not very much for the series. And if the way was marked by a feature movie... Guys, don't call it an ending. Just say that it's a transition to make more money.

The movie didn't came out and the time was expiring. Then the miniseries appeared. I was truly happy with the plot and the teasers. In fact, the first episodes confirmed me that. 24 is back in the most entertaining of its ways. It could not be that masterpiece and that surprising fresh air of the Days 1 to 5, but it's truly better than the last seasons. We don't see Jack Bauer do extremely creative things, okay. It's running, escaping from his custody after being trapped by the CIA (IN A VERY COOL WAY THAT I WONT SPOIL), stopping attacks and trying to clean his name and helping his friends (?) (although this time he claims that he has no friends at all... and that could be truth).

24: Live Another Day is not truly original or innovative. By the first episodes, it's 24 compressed in 12 episodes. It's more of the same but with a plenty of energy and in the half of time. That allows to the show to be more flexible, to cut off poor story lines (the very weak point of the original series!), and to deliver the whole plot in a faster and (could be) better way. In fact, the most distinctive change from the original series is the jumping forward in the time. I think I remember that after the first episode that begins. And if the creators and writers take it in the best of the ways that could deliver a lot of chills, false clues and twists along the predictable way. Also is a clear opportunity to send off the (incomplete) plot of the Final Season of the original series recurring to "lost characters" (Audrey and Heller, for example) and with a more attractive plot than the typical nuclear bomb. This time, the drones and the leaks give us chills and it's treated in a very interesting way (at least, in the first episodes). In that terms, I'm very happy to say that Live Another Day delivers. I hope that this won't be ruined by the end of the miniseries.

And finally... My dilemma. The final day or not? Well, I'm a fan of 24. Really. But I wish this could the truly final day of Jack Bauer. He survives or dies... He is walking under the sun with a lover or going to the hospital dying... I'm risky, but I think that another season or another miniseries "if this is successful" it's not a proper treating for this or any show. Every story has an end. And I personally think that Live Another Day (if continues the same rhythm and the same top notch quality from its powerful start) could be that awesome final season that we didn't received in 2010. I clearly think that could be a very good end to Jack Bauer. Live Another Day could be the perfect movie to end Jack Bauer story in a happy or sad way. If the creators want a spin off with Kate Morgan (such an interesting character) okay, I let it go on. But let Bauer apart. The business is not a way to treat a show like this. It's only the way to drop it down in quality and excitement (look at Season 6 and the first half of 8, please).

The performances are terrific, the action is like a big budget movie, the tension is awesome and the storyline is not original but very good on its own terms. The menaces are more palpable and different from the usual ones (VERY GOOD!) at least until episode 3 (although I won't be surprised by the future moles, possible bombs... to come).

Let's hope that 24: Live Another Day would be an excellent miniseries, a rushing season and that last season that we didn't got when we need it.

Sorry for my English. I'm trying really hard to improve.

Homeland: The Star (2013)
Season 3, Episode 12
8/10
Season 3 Finale gives us the shocker that we were expecting for... But at what cost?
16 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
One thing is to made a moving ending and another one is to made a depressive ending. And "The Star" is depressing. An episode to love or hate it.

After an entire season with its several downs and powerful ups what it did became clear was that the story belonged to Carrie and Brody. They stole the plot making them and keeping us in suspense. And this one installment (the last of this Season) is a truly great episode. It may be the best of the season in creative courage and plot terms. But killing Brody is a risky move.

They have booked a painful and violent death for him. Hanging. Carrie watches him screaming his name. He will never return home again. He will never return to his family, nor Carrie. He will never will make us doubt again. Homeland will never be what it was. Although this season had made it clear to me for the spin was taking, this latest episode confirms all.

And it leaves us in a difficult situation, since the series has been orphaned by much. It smells more like a Series Finale rather than a Season finale. Now just have to wait and see where the writers go although I suspect that Season 4 will be the last season of the show. There's no much more to say.

"The Star" has tension, has quality writing despite its noticeable flaws (the final minutes where we learn Carrie's next destiny so about the rest of the roles are a little contradictory and unsatisfying specially for the female character after all she did for her lover and now she continues working for the people who killed him... Will be the prologue for a surprising revenge plot next season? Or just Carrie decided not to be a maniac fighter anymore?), shocking moments and the most important of all: BALLS. But despite it, I can't say that I love this episode or I can't rate it 10/10. It's personal, I admit it.

In fact, this could be the right ending for Brody. Before everyone could hate me, Brody is my real favorite character of the show. He is Homeland because he was the pivotal start of this series. But everything he had to do: all the murders, all the betrayals, all the right and wrong moves... A happy ending with Carrie could be fine in our imagination, but we all know that in a series like this that won't happen. Brody himself wants to end with all. He's not a marine anymore. He doesn't want to hurt anyone else. So that death is truly painful and even tearful. If I were the writer I had been more softly with his death. But that was the ending that always could be possible in the show. And finally happened. It leaves us sad, without confidence. This is the way it should hurts, because he was a truly golden character. Damian Lewis is a lucky actor for performed it so well.

A superb episode, but very hard and very difficult to watch, judge and love as a fan of the show and Brody character arc.

Sorry for my writing if there are mistakes. I'll try to improve next time!

Homeland: Big Man in Tehran (2013)
Season 3, Episode 11
10/10
Could this installment be the best episode of Homeland EVER?
10 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Season 3 is coming to an end in a truly spectacular fashion. If the previous episodes of the show rocked, I didn't see this one coming. This is a truly masterpiece of storytelling, tension, shocking turns and cliffhanger. Everything I hoped for since a while. I'm brave and daring but I would say that this was the best episode of the entire series for me. I was without blink from the start to the amazing end.

Damian Lewis gives his best performance of Brody in this season for me yet. He surpasses himself and his role every week. Claire Danes is strong as Carrie. The rest of the cast make a truly talented job.

This episode finally crosses the line with Brody killing his target in a shocking ending. But how everything will end next episode? This question rises meanwhile the show has raised its own bar sky high with this episode. These last four episodes are one of the best comebacks of any show I've ever seen. If the Season Finale is nearby as perfect as this one, I will forgive the first episodes of this season and the third series of Homeland will be remembered as a very good one.

See it next week!

Homeland: Good Night (2013)
Season 3, Episode 10
10/10
Homeland surpasses itself in a truly gripping episode
2 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Homeland is really back with a truly bang! This season is going on improving the plot and raising the bar of the most of the shows that are airing now on TV. The writers and the whole team have really caught me by surprise these last episodes, but this one... "Good Night" is one of the best episodes of Homeland EVER!

Believe it, please. We have tension between Carrie and Quin for her pregnancy, meanwhile Brody is trying to make his way to the Iranian border at the nightfall and with forces surrounding him and ready to attack. The ending of this episode is a shocking twist that will leave you wanting more and more... And more. This episode has the fastness that "The Weekend", "Q&A", "Beirut is back" or "Marine One" had. This is the truly golden episode of the Season 3 so far. And if its path stills going by this way we will be witness of a shocking finale that could be the best that Homeland has ever had yet. Only two episodes left.

Skyfall (2012)
10/10
Skyfall is actually a great movie!
30 November 2013
Okay, this is not the best Bond movie ever. That is Casino Royale (that is a so classic Bond movie that works in everything). But Skyfall doesn't have to receive bad reviews just for that thing.

It's actually a great movie. Amazingly entertaining, simply, easy to follow and with stunning performances overall. It has its flaws, its mistakes and the script needs a little of a more personal touch and complexity but it's a perfect movie experience and one of the very best entries of this everlasting series. Also the villain portrayed by Javier Bardem is a true hard role and one of the best bad guys of the series ever.

Daniel Craig stills rocking as the best Bond ever!

Oldboy (2013)
6/10
A Remake That Will Divide The Audience
27 November 2013
If the original version of "Oldboy" has a perfect 10 out 10, this one has a mixed 6 out 10.

At first, I just came back from the theater and I found this movie a very poor remake if I compare it with the excellence, the complexity and power of the Asian film. That film was purely brilliance. So this new version was really promising but had the bar raising too high.

From Spike Lee we could expect a truly mesmerizing movie or a very weak one. And in this case I say that this one is not so bad as it looks like here. It's obvious that some people is apparently going too far. It's a disappointing movie, but not a bad movie. It focuses too much in blood and gory instead of the script and the complexity of the characters and situations. The ending can be a bit upsetting for some viewers.

Josh Brolin is one of the better things of this version. His performance is as good as he always do his roles. The rest of the cast is between average or good. Nothing remarkable under my watch.

So, this "Oldboy" is not a brilliant movie or a powerful remake but it's an entertaining one. It's weird and bloody. Be prepared for that.

Homeland: One Last Thing (2013)
Season 3, Episode 9
10/10
One Last Time
25 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is another proof that the show has completely lost the doubt, paranoia and ambiguity. It has led to a complicated character development in order to try to continue its ways as longer as Showtime can renew the series. But while this series has changed its path and has become in something quite different, there is no doubt that is entertaining and still likable to the audiences. This episode may not come up to those of past seasons, but this is the best of this season yet. It has left that laziness writing of the first episodes and now we are seeing how all that things were connected and leading to the end of this season. Brody definitely returns to the series already gone over to the "good" side and with the opportunity to be a Marine again, as Saul promises him. This is a dark episode (it has violent moments like Brody dealing with the hallucinations) but elegant at the same time. It's perfect to resurrect the lost Brody who we never knew even in the beginning of the series. There are superb references to past things and characters(Tom Walker, Abu Nazir) to the delight of fans, but also for guiding us to what the series will be from now on. An era of doubt and complexity has gone. Now we have to take action and be witness of spy games. And this season is dealing with that new point with an exciting taste though some fans do not like this too. The expected meeting between Carrie and Brody is effective and the last face to face between Brody and his daughter is heartbreaking and a reminder of how everything has changed and how hard is to find peace and pardon after made a lot of bad things. I want to see the next episode and to find out what's next. A great episode on its own terms and the best and most interesting of this season so far!. Brody's back and guarantees that he will return from his mission too. Let's see it.
