I expected a lot more
5 September 2015
When you see 97% on the tomato meter than you're expecting a bit. Every previous Mad Max had at least some sort of plot. Not this one. They are just fleeing from the mean boss in order to save his wives. This one takes place on the road for 99% of the time. Sure it's still fun and interesting but you expect a whole lot more after it was hyped so immensely. The 3D is decent but as for the movie, it's only mediocre. Worth a Blu Ray? Yes. Because it makes a great Demo Disc. But mostly for that reason only. The movie itself really feels like a B-Movie. Or rather like a movie where a B-Movie Director was handed $150 Million, which is how much this one cost. And he didn't know what to do with it so he made the exact same movie just better looking.

Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! (2015 TV Movie)
7/10
Not as good as the first 2
27 August 2015
OK, the third one is here. Since I missed the airing and don't steal content I waited the month until it came on Blu Ray here in Austria. Right when the movie starts you notice it looking more like a high-def vacation video than a film. Also you immediately notice that the celebrities stood in line to get in this movie. Not even in a "real movie" have you ever seen so many cameos. Ever. The first 2/3rds of this movie progress quite nicely. Nice effects shots. Nice gore. We get some more insight in Fins family life, which is nice. We encounter some familiar faces and then the whole east-coast is in danger and the course of action that they decide on, which involves Fins Dad who's identity I won't spoil for those select few that don't know, is simply ludicrous. When they go through with it, they suddenly encounter sharks in an environment much more hazardous to aquatic life than the land. Still, the movie is fun and Ian Ziering really does his all to save this script. It still is a lot of fun, so, if you can fetch the Blu Ray for 10 bucks then I say go with it.

Arnold in a very different role
15 August 2015
You all see the bad scores this movie got. So what's wrong with this movie? Easy: The viewer. You go in with the expectation to see an Action Zombiethriller with Arnold Schwarzenegger kicking ass. Instead of a really sensitive slow Drama against an apocalyptic Background. That actually says it all. It's the best Schwarzenegger has acted in his life. One has to appreciate that. The plot: A plague roams the earth and the infected get quarantined for a while until they turn and then.... Well, Arnie decides to keep his daughter with him, who has been bitten for as long as possible and then deal with the consequences. It's an excellent movies. An Independent Film at it's best. See it. buy it. support it. Seriously, if you can take a movie that's a bit slower you should really give this one a chance. We know that Breslin is always good. Schwarzenegger really shows that he can actually act here. Also the story is quite interesting just FYI.

Noah (2014)
7/10
Can't summarize this one. Read the review please
9 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
First: It took two sessions to finish this movie. First an hour. And then 2 days later the rest.It sure as hell wasn't the usual Darren Aronofsky Movie. The first thing they did was sidestep all the trouble with the Church by calling him "the Creator" and not "God". Pretty soon though, Noah becomes the bad guy and we have nothing to root for because we don't know the family members yes. Telling more would be a spoiler. On a purely technical level it's made very well, but due to the poor color use still doesn't look that great..Aronofsky is really not the guy you give $150 Million for to interpret 3 Lines of the Bible. Also what was the deal with the land? It was barren as was a specific character. How did she know that though? Must've tried a lo to be sure. Still I give this movie a recommendation to buy on Blu Ray. Not on DVD though because you really need to good sound to appreciate it. That's also the problem of the production. You need a big screen and good sound system just to enjoy this one. This should not be the case with a good move.

The Call (II) (2013)
8/10
Pretty good movie - Review contains only mild spoilers
18 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Wow, this movie turned out to be much better than I expected it to be. I got the Blu Ray since it's release and now in August finally watched it. Halle Berry plays a pretty convincing 911 operator that loses a PR. She tries to go on but can't so she becomes a teacher of future operators, but as fate will have it (Probably the script too) she get's involved in a kidnapping case and tries literally everything to find that girl. You may ask yourself: Why don't they just trace the call and find the location: Warning next sentence is a mild spoiler: Because it's a disposable cellphone lacking a GPS chip (which is the reason why criminals love them so much). Well she's on the phone for hours, which really speaks for this cheap-ass phone. Good battery.. In general we have a few product placements in this movie but strangely enough also some really missed opportunities for great placement but back to my review.. The movie takes you in practically from Minute 1 and never lets you go. Of course I won't spoil the ending but it's slightly stupid and pretty much the only negative thing I can say about this movie. There is also a very nice cameo in the movie which TV Fans will really appreciate. So all in all: Go buy the Btu ray and support a good movie. The Blu Ray is fantastic when it comes to picture and the DTS HD Master 5.1 Track. Didn't check the extras though.

Sabotage (2014)

It seems nobody knows that's a good movie anymore
28 July 2014
Obviously 80% of reviewers are idiots. It's the only conclusion. I finally watched this movie, since in didn't play in any English-Language Theaters here. It was a riveting movie with a great balance of plot and action. The action was very realistic. You had a bunch of top-notch actors. So what's wrong with this movie? I couldn't find a single thing, and believe me I was looking and expecting the worst. It seems critics just read Arnolds Name in the credits and decide to disregard the movie entirely. You may ask: Was it fun? Hell yeah it was fun Was there realistic gore and blood? Yes there were. So why does it have 20% rating? I honestly don't know anymore. It's even R Rated and not washed down for the kids. What else do you want?

Lone Survivor (2013)
10/10
Easily the best War Movie since "Saving Private Ryan" only an actual story.
13 June 2014
If you read the book and heard the interviews with the actual "lone survivor" you know that this movie got as close to the real events as possible. The 4 actors really gave it their all. Beginning long before shooting when they started their training so they would look realistic. This movie is also the most visceral experience since "Saving Private Ryan". There were falls in this movie that actually hurt more just watching than when I broke my foot 2 years ago. And in the making of you see that crazy stunt people actually did those falls, supposedly without dying. It's of course impossible to spoil this movie given it's title but it's important to note that the guy who helped him risked his whole village for "The Americans" Safety. And he didn't think twice about it. Sometimes we forget that not all of them are Taliban. After all is said and done this is a must see if there ever was one.

Great movie, treated unfairly by the critics
12 June 2014
We can all agree that Paul W.S. Anderson has made a lot of really bad movies. I'm happy to report though, that this is the rare good one. It' a very capable period disaster movie with really, great effects. Typical for this kind of movie we spend the first half getting to know the characters and the second half with the disaster. The Story about the young boy who sees his family murdered by the power hungry Kiefer Sutherland (don't ask me about his character name) and grows up as a gladiator whilst falling in love with a woman of high class and influence that Sutherland is interested too. Even the story is interesting enough to make a good movie and when the disaster finally hits, you see amazing effects you haven't seen since "2012". Luckily Anderson didn't push his wife in this movie (Mila Jojovic). I can wholeheartedly recommend this one.

This movie will surprise you, if you give it a chance.
18 May 2014
OK, this movie is trying to tell an epic tale, yet the studio only gave him $70 Million to do it. And with "him" I mean Renny Harlin. Who is one of the most accomplished Action Directors ever. Most people probably know him for the cult hit "The Long Kiss Goodnight"(of which the Blu Ray is also highly recommended) or for "Die Hard 2 - Die Harder" which is my personal favorite in the Series. His movies are ALWAYS entertaining as hell. That doesn't mean they are works of art though. But 2% on Rotten Tomatoes? Please. The movie tells it's story in a lean 90 minutes and never gets boring. The only thing I missed was a bit more violence but it was Rated PG-13 which probably the Studio insisted upon. Oh the story yes. Well there is a evil king, His wife already had a son from him so she asks the gods to bring her another, one who can finally take the Kings throne away from him. Sadly for her, her husband sees her having sex with the gods (well they are invisible) and therefor knows it's not his son, so of course he always get treated badly until finally his father sends him to war and arranges for him to die. And that's the story we see and that's the story we care about. It's not the best movie Ever but it will entertain you if you give it a chance.

Troma as it should be
9 April 2014
Troma is at it's best again. What the guy who wrote the other review saw is wrong is everything right with this movie. It brings everything you want, the grossness, the sexiness and the ridiculousness. This time around though there is actually some acting talent to be found. Asta Paredes, Catherine Corcoran are really good actresses who I suppose we'll see in more movies in the future. As for the movie itself. The plot is useless, as always the effects gory and purposefully bad but that's why we're watching this is it. There is for instant a car flipping over, where you see that it's taken from some other movie but you don't care. Another funny thing about this movie are the texts put in by the makers explaining why everything is logical. They are great and really add to this movie. The end really makes you want more. Sadly Even LLoyd Kaufman himself doesn't know when the second Part will be ready yet.

The Counselor (2013)

I simply don't understand critics anymore.
22 March 2014
They say movies aren't complex anymore. Then they get this and still aren't satisfied. This movie falls under the "get it" or "don't get it" category. If you get it you'll love every minute, if you don't you're bored shitless. Luckily I was one of those who got it and loved it. You have to look through the pretentious dialogue and look what's going on. All the actors were on top of their game. I was pretty much the first time I saw Bardem as a "good" guy. Well good would be stretching it but he was not the antagonist. Diaz as the crazy bitch who moves the strings of the puppets was great although she overdid it a bit. Fassbender didn't play such a strong type as he usually does. His "Counselor" was a bit naive and unsure. Bratt Pitt of course has the whole sleazy thing down. Director Ridley Scott made sure that everything looked good and stylish. I hope some time in the future people will look back and appreciate this movie for what it is. A piece of art.

This one didn't need to be made
16 March 2014
A remake of the 1976 horror film by Brian de Palma. This time the daughter is played by the much too young Chloe Grace Moretz with an over the top Julianne Moore as the overbearing and over religious mother. Of course the effects are better than almost 40 years ago, then again, there is way less gore in this one. Essentially a remake that serves no purpose. What I liked about it though , was that there were actually some of the "cool" kids that were nice to her, which was pretty nice touch. Also they include social media in this movie. It might be interesting to watch the original again for a comparison. Although I hate bullying and don't wanna see that again soon, which was a bit harsher in this one. Still I say, give it chance. Don't blind buy though. Give it a rent. That's enough for now.

Not bad for a Michael Bay Movie
13 March 2014
Wow, even though I expected not much from this movie, (It is after all directed by Michael Bay), it turned out to be a pretty good movie. A character study of 3 messed up Bodybuilders who thought they could take a shortcut to the American dream. Especially Dwayne Johnsons acting is impressive in this movie. Everybody gives good performances though. Still they could've easily shaved off 20 minutes or so. A running time of 129 Minutes is a bit much for an action comedy. Yes, it was billed as such. Even though everything you saw is based on true facts. They made jokes at some very inappropriate points in the movie that might make some viewers (including me) uncomfortable. But still, I was very entertained, and if you like these actors than watching it is a given. I mean buying the Blu Ray. Never thought that Michael Bay could still make a movie for $26 Million.

A lot better than the reviews make you think
25 January 2014
I was hesitant to put this one in for a while. Bad reviews and all. But a lot of people that I admire are in it. So today I finally watched it. (and I can watch very few movies these days since I am in the hospital for 5 weeks and only seldom get out (waiting for surgery)), well back to the movie. It's structured like a spoof but has an original actor and features most of L.A's stand up elite. (Some of the have already got their own TV Shows). Thomas Lennon not only has a huge part in this movie he also directed it and he did that very well. They had a limited budget but you can't tell the difference from a big studio in any way. The jokes were original and very well executed. Never does it stupe to the level of a Scary Moie 5 or Haunted House.I also loved the constant smoking by the two priests. Usually these days when someone smokes in a movie he's automatically a bad guy. I hate that. All the creature effects are done very well too, especially considering the budget. If you have a couple of extra buck be sure to pick up the Blu Ray.

The Heat (I) (2013)

A real surprise
18 January 2014
i was expecting some stupid movie which this certainly was. Of course McCarthy stole the whole show but Bullock nicely held her own. Despite being a really dirty humor buddy comedy which could've been from the 80ties (that's a compliment because these days they can't pull that off anymore) it also has a great and exciting story. And some nice violence in there too. After considering all possibilities this definitely was the funniest movie of 2013. Although I shouldn't have doubted it from the beginning with Paul Feig at the helm.Bridesmaides was the funniest movie of that year. After all the stupid romcoms Bullock has clearly redeemed herself. First "the Heat" and then "Gravity". I hope she stays that way. But back to the movie. It's never slow, it's really crude, there is a lot of dirty language which is fun. Even the action is handled well. It's also really nice to see Rapaport again. Definitely go out and but this Blu Ray.

Just a perfect comedy
30 December 2013
This was such a perfect comedy. I didn't expect too much going in but the pairing of Ferrell and Wahlberg was Gold. So was the cameo of Jackson and The Rock. The so called other Guys played so perfect off each other it's was a delight to watch. And it had a lot of laugh out loud moment. Some where you literally laugh out loud even when you watch it at home on blu ray.Michael Keatons return to the big screen was also a delight. His role as Police Chief really fit him well. It was also really funny the way Ferrell treated Mendes were extremely funny. He played it as she was an ugly housewife with nothing to contribute. Director McKay held it together perfectly. I eagerly await the start of Anchorman 2 here in Austria.

After Earth (2013)
8/10
A much better Film that critics gave it credit for
23 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Oh you critics. How much fun must it be slamming a filmmaker who made a few bad movies even when he makes a good one. The focus on good, not great. The story is simple. Will Smith and his son Jaden (also his son in the movie) crash land on earth. Now a very dangerous place. Of course Will is hurt during the crash so young Jaden must go on the journey. What Journey? Well the journey to find the tail-end of the ship of course where the homing beacon is. That's pretty much the story. What remains is a perfectly serviceable summer blockbuster. Which it sadly never became, but how could it. Critics really let the movie have it. (I wrote something else here, pretty harmless, but it said it contained prohibited words. More like Censorship) Even though had all the necessary elements. This movie was only 100 minutes long which flew by. During it a lot of action and character development happens. Of course the critics all said it felt like a lot longer. I have only one question. This movie is a least 1000 years in the future. Why are they messing around with swords and not use guns like we do? They have mastered light speed yet a hand held laser is not possible?

Gravity (2013)

Finally saw this masterpiece
15 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
OK, first, I know I am late to the party. This movie is in it's 11th week now. But I usually don't go the to movies anymore. For no apparent reason I stopped after "Avatar" (before all the hype). Then tried it again with the latest Die Hard which was a big mistake. But after Mark Kermode (BBC's loudest voice against 3D) said one has to see that at the theaters and further more in 3D I decided to give it a chance. Usually I see my movies on Blu Ray where I can control my environment. Luckily this showing of "Gravity" was quite pleasant despite one woman laughing at really inappropriate times, OK that's enough story let's get to the movie. Of course by this point it has been hyped beyond the moon with many pointing out it's opening scene. So of course I was sitting on hot stones waiting for the movie to start. And let's just say the opening scene went far beyond anything I could even imagine. This scene made Avatar look like a youtube video filmed on an iPhone. After that the story develops pretty fast. Their ship is hit by a lot of debris and rendered useless. So they try to make their way to the ISS. Luckily in this one instance the trailer didn't tell us much of anything because it made it look like Bullock would be lost in space with Clooney looking for her which was not the case at all. Clooney is actually out of the picture pretty soon and from there on we get to witness Bullock alone on her journey back to earth. I loved that they didn't include any unnecessary side stories or anything like that. The movie focuses on the problem at hand and how to handle it. I was really at the edge of my seat the whole time which about 80% of my brain devoted to the movie and the other 20% thinking: How the hell did they make this movie? It seems so real. Should this be this years best picture? Yes it should. I know I was giving you more of my experience of how I perceived the movie rather than a good review but that was what was in my heart right now.

Better than expected.. but I wasn't expecting a whole lot
14 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I had pretty low to medium expectations going in with most critics giving it 1-1.5/5 and just complaining. The first thing that struck me about this movie was the gore, if you can call it that. They might as well have gone "R" and really made it count. But if there is such a thing, I'd call it a hard PG-13. You see bullets hit. You practically see someones heart get eaten and so now. Now that we have that out of the way. My only problem with the movie is the pacing. It's sometimes really a little slow, I really takes a long while for the city boy to become "The Lone Ranger" which he finally does at the end. It takes about 2 hours or so. While they aren't boring they aren't that exciting either. You have one big action set piece at the end but that's about it. Some small adventures here and there but that was about it. Still, I am pretty content with my mission to buy the blu ray for $15. Definitely worth it. Unless you don't like westerns, then you might wanna stay clear.

Not as good as the first but still better than the rest
13 December 2013
Not as great as I expected but still a pretty entertaining flick. Pretty violent. But only in a few scenes. Far less than the 1st one actually. Oh and there is a shot in this movie that looks a lot like "Sharknado". (don't worry, it's just a building.. but you'll know what I mean if you saw that movie). Still liked the first one better. This is also the first time I am saying this but I really missed Nic Cage. He could have maybe been a guiding character like Alec Guiness in Star Wars. I did dread the High School scenes a bit but they were also a must in the way the story develops. But still it was pretty obvious what was gonna happen in the end (of the high school scenes), which I am still not gonna tell. Is it still a blind buy? Hell to the yes!

Gets way less credit than it deserves to
3 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Maybe it was because of all the bad reviews that my expectations were really low but I managed to enjoy the hell out of this movie. One small thing bugs me though. That one orange car that falls from the roof near the end. It looked kinda like an unfinished effects shot. Which is really weird. Well, yeah, it's borrowing from a few movies here and there but it also has a driving story, and doesn't stray from the path a lot. Fun all the way. All the actors are pretty good, some even bringing their A-Game. My only gripe would be that some of the creature shots look like right out of an animated movie. Or is that just because animated movies have become so good? Can you justify a Blind Buy of the Blu Ray? Yes you can!

Not that great.
28 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Wow this was pretty bad. Why still 6 points? Because I still acknowledge all the work that went into making this movie. Otherwise it would be a 4 at most. The premise, with which I think everyone reading this will be familiar, is far more interesting than the movie itself. Sadly they don't really do anything with the great 12 hours of doing whatever you want premise. And the plot holes. OMG. Like all the people she set free at the end. Won't they come after her next year? Also like, if you kill your boss, next day at work no questions asked from management? Back to the movie.. the first 30 minutes are pretty boring, where everybody makes kind of random and stupid decisions. Nah, that's unfair they do that the whole movie not just in the beginning. You should stay together as a group and not everybody for themselves. Also a note to the lightening dept. When a house is lit by car lights the first floor doesn't look like daylight in the night. And to be so bored during a movie that you notice these things isn't good either. Even I as a supporter of buy everything, help the industry have to say: stay away from this turkey.

Way better than expected
21 November 2013
From day 1 I hated this movie. First it was because it had the same premise as a movie that was already released and more importantly it is rated PG-13 which is usually a very bad sign for an action movie. Today I finally saw it (To be fair: with really low expectations) and was really entertained. The two leads really work well together. The daughter isn't bad either. The movie keeps a pretty light tone, even though supposedly a lot is at stake. (although if you think about it not really). But in the long running time of 136 they manage to continually come up with good reasons to keep you entertained. I looked a Blu Ray Player once at the 46 minute mark to check how long it was running but the rest just flew by. Is it a good movie? Hell no. Is it doing it's job in entertaining you? Yes, yes it does that perfectly. Is it worth your Blu Ray Dollar or Euro? Yes is that too. PS: I wrote this under the assumption that the reader knows that plot of the movie.
