very poor diction!
18 September 2023
This film could have been SO much better if there was clarity of dialogue.

I lost the plot, literally, as the mumbling, accents and talking through teeth caused me to try and find subtitles!

Why do directors, this case John Daley, do not understand we do not have the film script infront of us and thus need clarity of voice to understand and enjoy a story.

There was good action scenes and special effects but overall ruined because of the lack of clear diction.

Chris Pine normally is not too bad to understand in films but all the main characters in this film were not easily heard. I've not got hard of hearing by the way!

poor acting spoilt film
29 January 2023
Recently bought dvd in charity shop. Film looked promising on the cover and my sort of film. Enjoyed Brendan Frasers other films so was awaiting a light hearted chilled afternoon viewing. Oh Dear Me! Eliza Bennett (Meggie) acting was so unbearable we had to switch off. Very wooden, poor inflections and lacking in emotions. The main theme of the film was promising and Helen Mirren was fabulous as always but due to Bennetts grating lack of acting skills, we couldn't stay the course. Also, why was Meggie character English when dad was American? Significant flaws ruined engagement of the film. Like a book, the opening chapters did not grasp the viewer so never finished the film.

Will at his best 👌
18 February 2022
This is a very good film. Will Ferrall is an alcoholic who just cannot break his addiction. Through the Film you see he's not a 'bad bloke' but cannot say no to drink - his father was an alcoholic- is it genetic? His character, Nick Halsey, hits that 'rock bottom' - looses his job, his home, his wife but somehow the inherent core of this 'decent bloke' is tangible so you don't end up thinking 'well he deserves what he got'. He uses a local neighbourhood boy to help him sell his wares (very good acting from this young man) and the title then becomes clearer - 'everything must go' in his life to try and start over - you hope. His relationship with his neighbour played, by Rebecca Hall, once again shows the 'inside man' as a decent bloke.

Whether you like Will Ferrell or not, you will enjoy the experience of this movie as it has many other tales interwoven and is not all about the downfall of an alcoholic Good Watch! 👍

genetic?

Very good Time of my life watching this movie!
18 February 2022
Pauline Collins is always a winner on film or TV and Joan Collins is a sure starter too.

This film is about reflection and decisions. It shows how we can try to live in the past with Joan's character hanging on to past fame and fortunes and Pauline's character living in the nightmare past of her little boys tragic death perpetrated by her husbands blame. Then spontaneity moves in with luck, chance and some artistic licence. Both Joan and Pauline take off to France to find something - Joan a job and Pauline freedom from her nightmare.

It's a great movie full of humour, tenderness and sheer 'WHATS THE WORST THAT CAN HAPPEN' kind of moments.

Enjoyed it immensely and full marks well deserved. 👌

what a great film
15 October 2019
This film is SO well acted and well written. You are puzzled almost to the end to know what's really going on. So many films these days dont show true acting skills but Sam Worthington is deserving of an oscar! bring a whole new view to mental health and actions of trauma. well done and a must for serious film watchers. dont understand why is only hot a 6.5 rating ' should be an 8 at least

soooooo slow with no sparkle
25 February 2019
Very very slow with poor diction- no real substance from main characters - light years away from the intended impact of spiritual and scientific intertwining. misses the real messages of spiritual connections and Clara was not convincing as a free spirit - isaac bruno was bitter and detached with a boring personality - not engaging to watch ! and Isaacs ex Rebecca Jenkins - what was with that lipstick!!!!! In the end you struggled to stay connected and the ending was so pathetic it was laughable.

brilliant script!
8 February 2019
A very worthwhile nights viewing of a clever witty screenplay with a dialogue brilliantly executed by a fabulous cast. You will be entertained and the light hearted style works well. A refreshing skilled script which is often lacking in comedy dramas these days - 10/10 most definitely👍👍😁😁

Voices all wrong and a despicable storyline !!!
31 January 2013
Merida's voice is all so very wrong plus adding her story line which is very weak and, at best, irritating !!!! Makes 'Brave' a big disappointment. Great animation but became rather boring in the end . Merida's treatment of her mother showed a poor example to the young and moral story lines were always the corner stone for Disney . This young, over the top lass should have 3yrs community service !! The Scottish theme became somewhat lost and the 'triplets' not eating their haggis was a bit crass ! They didn't have bagpipes, tartan or paint their faces in Scotland in the 13th or 14th century and whilst this maybe rather pedantic - it all added to the 'lentil soup' miss match.. Tangle outshines this by a 1,000,000 light bulbs

A must see film on your bucket list...one of the best!!!
27 November 2012
This film is everything a good, brilliant film should be. Fantastic acting, great storyline with a strong back-bone. Jim Carrey is brilliant as the main character who is a victim of a 'witch hunt' after the 2nd World War believing him to be a Communist. The town of Lawson sees him arrive after an accident leaves him with amnesia. They believe him to be one of 'their lost' sons from the war. Jim Carrey's 'father' played by Martin Landau is superb and the chemistry between them in the movie is very moving. The pain, grief and pride shown by many of the characters in the film at the loss of 65 of 'their' young men during the war is so tangible it makes feel you are there; right there feeling the sorrow and remorse of what has happened. However, the relationships between the characters, their unresolved need to be able to move on with their lives and with the belief of their returning 'hero' Luke'. Jim Carrey's character Pete, is brilliantly played and scripted. Jeffrey DeMunn is honourable as the father who has lost two sons in the war and your empathy with him, again, is felt in every part of the film. Lauri Holden plays the 'love' interest in the film as the girlfriend of the hero 'Luke'. This film is not sloppy, sentimental nor 'wet'. Its 'true grit' of what a town like Lawson must have felt after the war. It is also rather poignant there are town's in Britian today who will also feel the same. One to watch and one to remember.

oh come on!!!,,,,,,its great, lots of laughs and no swearing!!
26 November 2012
I can't believe all the negative cynical comments about a rather clever slapstick comedy similar to the type of movie which made Laurel and Hardy very famous all those years ago! It was great entertainment, funny, cleverly done with all aspects of interest for the viewer:- Animal antics, slapstick moments, clever dialogue and a family movie for all to watch together. There was even some moral messages; cant understand the comment about it having racial motives??!!!! The onslaught of negative comments have me entirely confused?! The story of twins, one a success the other not and getting together with all the family dynamics and comedy which follows, makes it a very funny with many moments of big smiles! Adam Sandler pulls off the movie well with Katie Holms doing a great 'straight' part as Adam's wife. The aspects of the children's 'oddities' was just part of the fun. The part of Adam's character twin sister was also played by Adam and was believable albeit she had masculine tendencies!!! Al Pacino was good as the besotted hopeful boyfriend of Adam's twin sister. All in all I feel this movie is well worth the watch, leaves you with a smile on your face and laughter in your heart - cant be bad! p.s. whats wrong with some toilet humour anyway, makes me laugh and much much less offensive than the torrent of foul language other movies expose us too.

Its missing a HUGE piece of authenticity
6 May 2012
I had to go online to look at the reviews about this film as I wanted to know the end as I couldn't sit through it to the final act. Robert Patterson cannot act, couldn't in Twilight and his is as wooden in this film. His acting is support by Chris Waltz who is good and Reese Witherspoon. This film could have been good, so much better. There is a HUGE lack of authenticity, I mean Robert's character Jacob was supposed to have been a vet and you hardly saw any hint of it, he spends a lot of the time looking downwards, pensive and brooding, just like Twilight?!?! When he says "your a beautiful women and deserve a beautiful life" he looks like he's gotten a couple of gobstoppers in his pouting mouth! I cant comment on the ending as I got so bored and frustrated with the lack of believing in the story although I knew somewhere in there there was one! Its funny reading other reviews and my conclusion is..you either love it or hate it and I am afraid I am with the latter. With another 'Jacob' I think it would have been better

Kate Hudson is brilliant, shame about her Beau!
29 April 2012
This is a very well acted film by all other than Gael Benal. He is wooden and, no offence meant, but just didn't look the part. I don't know how he has gotten into films at all, no presence on screen, just an irritating very large head! Saying all this, the other actors, script, visual strengths and Kate Hudson's excellent acting abilities, brought this film to a score of 8 for me. The storyline of a young and spirit free women diagnosed with cancer and how she tries to deal with it in her positive way whilst not trying to get involved with her Dr. is well directing and scripted. It was a lovely film showing friends and family dilemma when dealing with a loved one with cancer and who is dying. Kathy Bates plays Kates mother and their relationship goes through a number of difficulties which are delivered in a nice realistic pace You need a box of hankies near by!

Excellent.....why 3.7 as all reviews excellent??????
9 April 2012
Lovely heartwarming film, good pace, simply done but big subject of grief, belief, trust and all the ingredients of life!! Acting very good and not 'cheesy' in any way. A film for all to watch, clean, good straight forward storyline with a little magic thrown in. Don't know why this has a low rating as all reviews are very good??? The learning curve for a grieving dad who blames himself for his son's death and his relationship with his wife is delivered at a good believable pace. With a need to feel empathy for him and the grieving mother is well delivered so the ongoing happenings are a joy to you, the viewer, and you share the storyline. It needs at least an 8.5. Albeit there are only 5 reviews to date I know and 'I believe' you will enjoy!!!!.

If only the talents were as good as the CGI guys!
9 April 2012
The film is lost very early on by the poor quality of script and acting. James Franco has a distinctive 'shhhhhhhh' sound at the end of his words which eventually was all I could hear! In contrast David Oyelowo's diction was so 'RADA' schooled it sounded unnatural. Generally the acting was a B movie apart from Brian Cox. The CGI was excellent and the film could have been so so much more. You lost empathy with the human race when they were all acting so poorly and the script did not ring true conviction in any shape or form. I kept going onto ebay throughout the film to try and still the boredom! I was sorry about this as I had so loved classic planet of the ape films. I feel the score rating of 7.7. is rather more than generous. This film shows how important good film directing is, with a genuine script which is well acted - kind of basic rules really I suppose!!

Fab and dreamworks gold!
27 January 2012
Well, I thought, nah, its will not be very entertaining, the cat in Shrek having its own picture? Well,it was excellent, well deserved. Puss certainly got the cream. It was funny, witty and a real good storyline which made the viewer smile. Great characters and lots of good one liners. Its certainly up there with the 1st Shrek movie. Puss maintained his character from the Shrek movie which was a good move by Dreamworks to ensure the viewer would be able to connect with the film. The other characters were new but the theme of Shrek was there as they were part of the Nursery Rhymes but with some artistic licence too!!! Wonder if 'donkey' would do so well having his own film???. Well worth a night out to see this!!

Chalet Girl (2011)
7/10
Its not a 'downhill' movie
27 January 2012
Chalet Girl is a feel good movie and offers the viewer comedy, romance and some good photographic shots. Its a film which starts with Felicity Jones (Kim ) delivering a very 'slick' main character role. Her delivery of the part just hit the spot thus you felt you were there with her throughout the movie. I would say its definitely a gender type film, more a 'girly' movie but thats perhaps not fair as it has a 'full rounded' story which would appeal to both genders really. The storyline is simple, opportunity, relationships and fears. The overcoming of all is part of the simplistic joy of the film. I don't agree with comments of the film being boring but perhaps my aforementioned comments re gender would support these negative reviews. The acting was very good and all roles complimented each other, fitting in and all loose ends were tied up. Also it was a pleasure to watch a film which did not need to resort to copious amounts of foul language. A nice, easy, enjoyable film which leaves one feeling lifted and has the 'ahhhh' factor.

you may nod off!!
27 January 2012
When I saw the full cast of actors I thought this was going to be a very exciting and action filled film. It was dull and very soon appeared to loose any 'focus', lots of changing priorities and no clear direction. It seemed as though the plot and theme were only in the title. I don't quite know where or how it could have been brought together better but I nearly didn't see it through to the end. Its a shame such a great cast were all 'drifters' within the film and Jude Law's character appeared to be more of a irritation than any solid part of the plot, mind you I suppose it helped to keep one awake.............just!!! Still I suppose now I am reminded to 'wash my hands'!!!!
