Don't Look Up (2021)
Misunderstood?
Seems to me the negative reviews get the movie, because of their descriptions of the film, yet don't realize they get the movie. Such irony within some of these reviews. I'm not going to talk a ton about the film. The film speaks for itself. I absolutely hated this movie. It was cringe all the way through. It was just painfully painful to watch. Which is why it gets 9 stars. This film set out to do exactly what it was supposed to do. Show us the absurdity of our political system in this country and the idiocy of the citizens that partake in the political Arena as if any of it actually means anything to the world or Humanity. The view of social media that has dumbed down our society tenfold in the last decade is shows at full force in this film. And the fact that you can no longer receive information from the media without having examine it and research it for yourself to find out whether it's true or not. There is no media Outlet that is trustworthy or that can be taken at face value any longer. So yeah, I hated this movie. I hated this movie because it shows the state that we are as human beings and how embarrassing and sad it is for us.

Those with the lack of imagination will find this a bad film
I just finish this movie and I come to see what the rating was here, only to find out there are too many people on this planet that give one star in a rating system that is utterly flawed. I believe that people should be given an IQ test before they are allowed to cast their vote on anything. I was very entertained by this film. There is a thing called suspension of disbelief that needs to be utilized in films such as this. I have never understood the need for people to go out of their way to say they didn't like something. This is the reason that TV shows like Firefly get canceled. Because it's more of those with severe idiocy that go out of their way to say they hate something. Even the most horrible film on the face of the planet deserves more than one star just for the mere fact they had a cast and crew and a budget and a will to make some sort of Art. 20 years ago this would have been the best movie ever made but now people are so desensitized things that are good that they have to hate it. The problem is with most things they don't hate the movie they hate themselves. It's like when someone says they read a book and it sucked. The actual reality is they suck. I've never read a book that sucked. Because you are the narrator, it's your voice and your imagination that takes you to great places a book allows you to go. But if you don't have a good narrator and you don't have a good imagination then of course the book is going to suck. It's no different with the movies. Because of that thing in your head that you call yourself it's so bad that everything that your eyes see and transmits to your brain is also bad.

And he still has hell to look forward to
This movie will always resonate in my mind as one, if not the, best serial killer genre movies of all time. Definitely not your basic buddy cop film. One of the best villain characters created.
It's not based in reality. None whatsoever. It is a fantasy film. The logistics of everything being carried out as it was would be an impossibility without some sort of Supernatural guidance behind it. And that is exactly what we are mint to believe. But most of people once they reach the Age of Reason all know that Supernatural is a nonsensical word that doesn't have any meaning in the natural universe. Which doesn't deviate from the fact that the film is awesome. Although they did a really hard job of making everything as realistic as possible, even the characters and their flaws and their idiocy. There's some pretty cheesy lines in the film. But the cheesiest of all is when the doctor says, "He's seen more pain and suffering than anyone I've ever witnessed..... and he still has hell to look forward to" That is such a ridiculous line that you can tell is written. It took me right out of the film how cheesy and ridiculous the line was. Especially coming from a professional doctor. I'm still giving the film 10 stars because the few flaws that it does have in it is not enough for me to lower the rating on this film from 10 Stars. This is a film that will stand the test of time. And does stand the test of time. I will watch it probably once a year until I die. And if there is a hell, which I seriously doubt if we live in any type of a logical universe, then when I'm in hell I'm sure this film will be available on Digital streaming. Or hell, hell maybe more technologically advanced and there will be like a virtual reality, or you can actually go into the film as a digital entity and view the film while you are in it or play one of the characters. If you're going to go as far as saying that a hell exists you might as well just keep going and make it out to be whatever you want. A fantasy.
Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)
To all the one star imbeciles!
The amount of effort for each individual that put their Blood Sweat and Tears into making a film such as this and then to see it crushed by a pimpled faced manchild living in his parents basement with a overdramatized one-star review is beyond ludacris.
What is the purpose of this film? To be entertained is the answer. And even though it's 2021 and I had missed this from being incapacitated in a coma, and just now getting around to watching it I am very much entertained by this film. The story the excitement the adventure. It's enthralling. Would I really gives this film a 10 star when you compare it to movies such as Shawshank Redemption? Although those two movies should not even be compared to each other, regardless no. I would not give this movie 10 Stars. I give this movie 10 stars to offset the idiocy of the people that give it one star. The only thing something deserves a 1-star is if it was a entire film filming flies buzzing around manure and that was all of it. That would deserve a one-star. This film deserves at least seven stars. But I'm giving it 10 because of some egotistical self-righteous nitwit that would even I think that such a film as this deserves one star needs to have their Humanity revoked
The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz (2014)
Why? I believe I know.
It's not a spoiler to say that Aaron killed himself. So I'm going to tackle that subject alone very quickly after discussing the merit of the documentary.
This documentary was masterfully created and hits off to those responsible. This is a must see for anyone that wishes to know truths over self indulgent security blankets.
To see his loved ones and colleagues talk about Aaron throughout this film, knowing ahead of time what transpired was heartbreaking. Yet at the same time it was well worth the time to understand more about the young man. The genius young man. Patriot is the word I'd use to describe him. Humanist is another.
I believe I understand why he killed himself. To me, it seemed that he had spent so much of his life trying to show people the way things could be, if not should be. And he was afraid the battle he was currently fighting was being lost. Aaron was analytic in his thinking. He saw patterns and had an understanding of the consequences of actions. He could see the "grand picture" so to speak. He knew that his death would bring an awakening, a shockwave across the continent, if not the world, because of what he was fighting for. I believe he believed his sacrifice would not be in vain. His analytic mind could see the difference his sacrifice would make.
I could be completely wrong, but I don't believe I am. Is goal seemed to be to make a difference in the world. It wasn't for money or fame, but a better world for others to live in. He could see the bigger picture, and for that he gave himself for a cause. This type of story has been around for thousands of years. There are no supernatural elements to it, just a pure of heart trying to make things better for others. And that is his legacy.
Gravity (2013)
Edge of your seat from start to finish!
There was actually one reveiwer that gave this film 1 star based on it being intellectually challenged and went on to write a book about how smart they were and how no one with an above average IQ would enjoy this film. Which prompted me to write this feedback for their egotistical tirade.
As an individual with above average IQ I can honestly say that I enjoyed this film immensely. The film did exactly what it was intended to do, keep me at the edge of my seat with intensified suspense! Only an egotistical mentality will cause one to overthink a sci-fi movie. Movies are for the purpose of entertainment, and I was thoroughly entertained by this film. High IQ or not, when someone gives a film of this quality a one star, it's not the problem of the film but the problem of the viewer. Plain and simple. Personally I feel bad for those one star individuals because they don't even understand that they are the problem, not the movie.
If you like an intense film experience then by all means watch this film. Don't judge it based on your preconceived notions of what you think it should be, but sit back and enjoy the ride for what it is.
Hilarity for Charity (2018)
Viewers don't get the point
Sure, it's tacky and parts are just downright gross (I'm talking to you Rick and Morty co-creator) - but the point is it's for charity.
My grandmother had Alzheimer's. Once I took my guitar and played some songs for her and everyone in the home. When it was done, my grandmother asked my mom, is that young man going to play some more songs? She had no idea who I was. It's heartbreaking to see a loved one go through such an ordeal. And it only gets worse as time goes by.
We know so little of the disease and Charities like hilarity for charity is a worthwhile Organization for a worthwhile cause. And even if the show itself is not 10 Stars worthy, I'm giving it 10 Stars just because it's a worthwhile charity.
Alpha (2018)
Ten Stars why?
I'm giving this film 10 stars... Because it's deserves 10 stars!
This was an awesome movie.
My son (14) wanted to watch it and I'd never even heard of it. Didn't know what to expect. So my daughter, my son and I sat and were all glued to our seats.
It reminded me of 1989 when I was glued to my seat watching Dances with Wolves at the age of 18. This film may not be a dances with wolves, but that's just because it's a different catagory of film. But this film was as entertaining.
Absolutely loved this movie and would love a part 2!
Cinderella (2015)
A Fairytale worth seeing time and again
I've seen some negative reviews for the movie and I've seen some positive as well.
I can't really add much more that what's already been said in favor and against.
But I can say that this movie is a great Fairytale that I have watched a half dozen times. And as a Fairytale goes, it can't be judged on realism. As I've lived the life of realism and its definitely no Fairytale. But I can say this movie brought this 49 year old man to tears at the end, because even a 49 year old man wishes for a Fairytale ending.
Yoga Hosers (2016)
Actually pretty good
If you can get past the strange creature going up people's backs then it's actually not a bad movie. The two girls Johnny Depp's daughter Kevin Smith's daughter actually they're pretty good in the movie. You've got some good guest stars that pop up and I don't really understand what all the hate is about.
Of course I'm a Kevin Smith fan, and I like watching actors act and I enjoy Smith's writing. And I enjoyed the acting in this movie I enjoyed the actors having fun and playing. It was entertaining.
I would probably give this movie about a seven stars but I'm giving it 10 stars to offset all the ones stars in the haters that just give it one Stars just because they're d!cks. So yeah Kevin Smith's Yoga Hosers 10 Stars
The Accountant (2016)
Not "wooden", it's called acting
It amazes me to see people give this film 1 star and call Ben Affleck's performance "wooden". That makes it obvious to me that 1. they didn't pay attention to the details of the film, the story 2. they don't understand autism whatsoever.
I have a daughter with autism, which doesn't make me an expert, but at the very least puts me in the category with of a horse in this race. The mannerism and psychological makeup of Affleck's acting is on point. What they consider "wooden" is actual Mr. Affleck doing a hell of a job character acting. When some people give this film 1 star and I give it 10 and believe it should have won best picture over Moonlight any day of the week, it give me pause as to how our numbers can be so off. And the only thing I can imagine is personal bias on their part. I could imagine bias on my part, yet I'm giving the film the rating is deserves. But to have a difference of 8 stars there can only be a few possibilities. Mood effects enjoyment and bias against the story and or actors on screen. The story was solid from start to finish. A solid plot with no holes in it. The acting by all the actors was wonderfully executed.
There is no need to go into details about the film as many others have done this for me and I don't feel the need to repeat what's been said. But just know that this film will hold up over time. It's a film I've watched over a dozen times with enjoyment each and every time. Noticing something new with each viewing. And so long as you're willing to be entertained and not bring your own baggage to the viewing, you'll enjoy this film over and over again as well.
10 STARS - I'd give it more if possible. It's that good.
Horace and Pete: Episode #1.3 (2016)
A Masterpiece of in our time
This episode hit home so hard that it left me in tears by the end. Having lived through a marriage with a cheating spouse for years. Having made excuses for their actions by blaming myself, for just one example. Trying to justify what she was doing and how that eventually effected me, and still effects me and the way my brain is now, possibly, permanently wired. Watching this incredibly well written, well acted episode of Horace & Pete made a difference in the way I think about all that time spent, and the gut wrenching pain I went through - I never thought about what she went through. Don't get me wrong, there isn't an excuse for her or for any cheater, but she still went through something. And as traumatic as it was for me, it was for her too. Not like that mattered in the end, divorce was eventual and inevitable. Once my kids were a little older I could leave her and now my relationship with my children is better than ever. But in my minds eye, for her.... After watching this episode I just feel sorry for her, but I don't hate her. I can put it aside, but never be able to forget. Regardless, this episode brought all this up and it was an amazing experience on a personal level and a must see for anyone in that kind of situation, on both sides. This episode can also be a good episode for anyone that doesn't like Louis CK. Their misunderstanding of the man can be seen and explained within the subject matter of this episode seeing as how it was written and directed by the man. The lesson is people can do bad things and still not be bad people.
The Sunset Limited (2011)
Not your typical Hollywood movie
Spoiler alert - so here's what I thought was going to happen in the end of this film.
White guy leaves, walks downstairs and then decides to say one more thing to black guy and finds the apartment empty! That's your typical Hollywood ending. Oh wow, it was an angel and he saved his life and now the dumb atheist knows a god is real blah blah blah. And this is what many of the lower numbers ratings/reviews wished for. Fortunately this film was based in realism and not fantasy. Which was the point of the film. You have a believer that has absolutely no way to show what he believes is real. And a nonbeliever that just wants his existence to end and he longs for nothingness.
The nonbeliever is an educated man, while the believer is an ex-con murderer that found Jesus.
This is a dialog film that definitely worth watching in my opinion, but just don't expect a happy go lucky ending, but a realistic one.
The Man from Earth: Holocene (2017)
Missing the point?
Many of the low reviews for this film are venomous, desperate and childish, that it would seem, the point the film makes goes straight over their heads.
And that point is "reality".
Yes reality is a disappointment, anyone that's lived past the age of 40 knows this all too well. Life's a b*tch and reality sucks. And I believe that's what upset people the most about this film. It went in a direction that hurts the original. Just like reality. But just like the original, it takes a concept like religion and turns it on end, and shows it for the farce that it is. A man-made fiction. Not that there isn't any positive aspects to it, just that when it's put on a pedestal it's not hard to knock down.
Yet the message of the film is that the planet we dwell on for a few decades is what we make of it, or at least can be. I guess the right word is, "is". The world "is" what we've made it to be and superstitions are just a part of that world. And the reality of that is there is absolutely no good reason to believe any of it.
People believe things, not for good reasons, but because they desperately want to believe them.
This film shows a young man that is a follower of a "peaceful" religion stab a bound man simply because the bound man threatens his irrationally deep-seeded beliefs. That point struck home with a vengeance. All it takes is to question their "faith" and they strike like a rattlesnake. And I have no doubt this is exactly how an organization that would hide child predators from the world would react to such a threat. Strike it down before their control is lost!
But hidden in this film is a true message. A message that hopefully you'll find when you watch the film. Sure, the acting isn't the best, and the story could be better, but I'll not demolish the film simply because it has a low budget. Low budget films deserve their due just like any other. One has to overlook the fact that they can't hire A+ actors and spend millions on the film. Besides, how many takes can you have with a low budget film? Actors can get it right eventually and people will conclude they're awesome actors, when it reality it's they finally got it right after 20 takes! Some of the actors in this film are very good, just fyi.
The takeaway is what it does to your psyche when it's done. Does it make you think and provoke your mind into thought? I think it does.
Halt and Catch Fire (2014)
Waiting for the other shoe to drop
Sometimes, in life, good things happen without a bunch of bad things, after bad things, after bad things (should I say it again?), after bad things.
But this show is not in that reality. Halt and Catch Fire is in a reality where every once in a while a halfway decent thing will happen, but as soon as it does something unthinkable or unbelievably coincidental will happen to ruin it!
If two people are in a room it's quite possible they'll have a decent conversation, in the real world. But in the reality of Halt and Catch Fire there will be a major argument that will shape the rest of the episode, if not entire season.
If you're in a gloomy mood, or a person that suffers from depression - this show isn't for you. It'll send you down a dark and desperate moodset that's not healthy.
Now that that's out of the way - I couldn't stop watching it. I binged watched the entire show in four days. It was too aditctive to stop. The acting was superb. The story was very interesting, and would have been without the constant forced drama. Regardless, I'm glad I watched the show, just to see that my life doesn't have the negativity that the reality of Halt and Catch Fire does.
I'm sure this "review" isn't going to help anyone decide to watch the show or not, it's a decision you'll have to make for yourself. Good luck.
Cyndi Lauper in Paris (1987)
Best live performance of all time!
It has been said that the best live performances of all time was Queen at live Aid. And not to degrade that performance, this performance of Cyndi Lauper was amazing from start the finish.
The sound quality is unbelievable for a live performance. You'll find yourself questioning whether it's live or Memorex.
Cyndi's vocals are superb as she hits each note with absolute perfection.
The set list is a mixture of some of her greatest hits, including Time after Time, She Bop, Money Changes Everything, Change of Heart, All Through the Night and of course Girls Just wanna have fun.
The energy of Lauper is a non-stop fiesta that'll keep your eyes glued to the screen and wishing for the 80's back.
This is a performance that is a must see before you die. You won't regret it.
Anne (2017)
The innocence is gone :(
This show is very well made. The actors are phenomenal. The quality is phenomenal. The artistic value of the film makers are superb.
And that is why I'm giving the show 8 stars.
But, this is not Anne of Green Gables. Period.
As an avid Anne of Green Gables fan, I was hoping for a newer updated version, with the quality this show has. But I got much more than I was hoping for.
They could have made a show, with a different source material, almost exactly like this show but different names and I would have loved it. I actually do like the show, but because I know the source material so well, it is ruining the show for me. It's way too dark. This is like Anne of Green Gables The continuing Story times ten!
Yes, I'm going to continue to watch it. But, it's definitely went off the edge of a cliff as far as the Anne we all know and love.
Stargate: Atlantis: Inquisition (2008)
Yes, it's a filler episode..... But....
I know it seems like every series has one of these episodes. Flashbacks and recaps of the series. I'm not sure if it's to save on the budget or maybe a last ditch effort to try and pick up some new fans to the show.
I've never been much of a fan of these but with that said, there is one aspect that's worth mentioning that makes this episode worth watching. It's a Richard Woolsey moment.
I loved Robert Picardo in Star Trek Voyager, but just didn't care much for him in Atlantis. Mainly because they had Weir, and she was awesome. Then replaced her with Samantha, and I lived her too. When they got ride of her I was tried if the change and even though I liked Robert as an actor I was fed up with the constant change. Well, the reason this episode is worth it is because it was at the end of this episode I started liking Richard Woolsey. So I wouldn't suggest skipping the episode for this very reason.
The Karate Kid (2010)
Excellent as stand alone film
I've seen negative reviews here and had to add a quick review of my own to counter them.
Simply put, if this film had not been a remake and had not had another film to compare it to then this would have a much higher rating on IMDB. This movie had heart - Jackie Chan puts forth a superb character and Jaden Smith is at his finest in this film.
Having seen the first film in theaters in the 80's, yes I had some personal bias going into this film, but putting that aside, which is hard for some to doi apparently, this film is well with the time to invest your emotions into.
Fringe (2008)
FRINGE REDEFINES THE "LONG GAME"
Sometimes a TV series takes the "long game". And when done right, it's brilliant. Fringe takes you there.
Personally I don't like gore, and Fringe is full of gore. Flesh melting and autopsies galor, but I can easily over look all that because of the "long game" story line! This show is literally once of the best TV series I've ever seen. So much so I'm currently on my third time viewing.
Temple Grandin (2010)
This movie suprised me!
As a father of an autistic child, and being on the high end of autism myself, I started this movie with a curiosity if it would capture the world of autism in a truthful manner. And once I started the film I simply couldn't turn it off.
See I have a hard time watching new films. But once I watch a film I'll view it over and over again because I find comfort in the viewings. I get anxiety viewing new films when and if the film has anxious parts. But I love movies and so I usually will watch them in parts. Sometimes it will take days to watch a new film. But this film, even though there were many times with anxiety ridden parts, I couldn't turn it off. It was a fantastic movie, that captured the journey of Temple Grandin admirably and positively. It made me want to see more of her. So now it's time for a YouTube journey of my own, to see everything I can find on this extraordinary woman.
