Miracles from Heaven (2016)
Too much of a religious propaganda
I wanted to love this movie, I really did, but there are unfortunately a couple of things that bothered me immensely.
First, I would like to stress that the actors did a terrific job. I actually cried when they cried. The plot was quite original as well. I would have easily given this movie a 9/10, if only the story was told differently.
What I did not appreciate at all was the portrayal of atheists vs Christians (because the movie doesn't talk about just any religion). I really didn't like the fact that Christians were portrayed as these innately good, holy people who believe in God and miracles, and therefore deserve them. As opposed to the cynical, heretical atheists whose children die because they don't believe in the supernatural.
I mean, let's assume for a second that this story actually happened, like the movie claims it did: a little girl with a severe intestinal disorder was cured miraculously after falling on her head just the right way. Fine, beautiful, magical. But why on earth did the journalist's daughter have to die at the end? Was it just because he was an atheist? And not just any kind of atheist for that matter. He basically didn't allow his daughter to believe in God; he was kind of rude to Christy (Jennifer Garner), who very conveniently was super nice and polite; his wife left him, didn't die just left, so he didn't have the support of a devoted, hard-working, religious partner like Christy did.
Why? Because, let's be honest, in the eyes of Christians atheists are lost and empty people who don't believe in the sanctity of marriage, or the unconditional support of your family, and especially of sick children.
But the moviemakers just had to take it even further by turning Ben (the journalist) into a believer in the end. I guess it's just like Anna said: "They'll get there when they get there." Heck, I too would consider converting, if that would apparently stop my future offspring from dying.
Das Floß! (2015)
Terrible, just terrible
This has to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I was pretty disappointed about that, because I generally really like German cinema. The whole time I was watching this film, I kept asking myself "why is everybody acting so awkward?" All the actors just played horribly.
The movie tells the story of a lesbian couple who is about to get married. Both brides get a separate bachelorette party where at some point, of course, things get a little weird. Let's just say, the awkwardness between certain characters made total sense, but strangely enough everybody seemed to be very uncomfortable with each other.
I don't understand what the goal of this movie was. It tried so hard to be deep and complicated, it ended up being the entire opposite. All of the characters lacked any emotional connection. None of them seemed to even like each other and their conversations were extremely boring and forced. A bachelorette party is supposed to be something fun, but here you had these five people who, for some mysterious reason, were basically stuck together. I guess none of them had anyone else to hang out with. But the really sad thing is that not even the brides were really excited about anything. I did not predict a happy marriage.
In other words, do not waste your time on this movie. Germany has better ones to offer.
Warrior (2011)
This is what a great movie should be like
Warrior is without a doubt one of those movies that contain everything a good movie should: an original and interesting story; great acting; suitable music; and a perfect mix of entertainment and emotion.
It's been mentioned here before, but I'll say it again. It is truly surprising and undeserving that this movie didn't get more attention. Or maybe it did, and I just happened to miss it.
Anyhouw, I really recommend to see this movie. I'm not such a huge fan of fighter films, but Warrior was truly worth my time. It'll grab your attention and hold it until the very last second.
I've seen a couple of movies with Tom Hardy in it, but this was definitely one of his greatest parts.
Lastly, Warrior was one of the few movies that just literally left me speechless at the end for several minutes. Congragulations to the entire crew! They've done a really great job with this one!
Srpski film (2010)
Most disturbing movie I've ever seen and hopefully will ever see again
I don't know how the makers of this film could ever sleep again. If I had to work on it, I'd probably have to go into therapy for several years afterwards.
If my parents ever found out that I watched this, they'd ask me if I was sick. I just finished the movie and honestly, at this point I'm not sure I'm not. I always thought I could handle a lot and I've seen pretty messed up stuff so far. And yet, this one made me wonder several times why I was watching it. I still feel a little nauseous.
It wouldn't be fair to give this movie less than a 5, but out of principle I really can't give more.
I only have one advice. If you're a sensitive person, do not watch this film. It will f**k you up!
