Nail biting drama
7 April 2003
Day of the Sirens starts at a gentle pace, several characters are introduced waking up and starting their individual summer's day in London. Lulled into a false sense of security, the first violent incident completely shocked me. Quickly you get to understand that there is a much bigger game being played here, both by the terrorist loose in London and by the movies director. At times this film was shocking, I never seemed to get to the point where I could anticipate what would be coming next, it had me in tears twice. Subversive and with several great twists and set pieces, this was a very entertaining movie and a complete surprise, since I had heard nothing about it till the preview DVD arrived through my door. Nine out of Ten. Very moving and commendable.

A bloodbath from start to finish...excellent!

Probably the most controvertial and violent bloodbath movies to be passed in the UK by the BBFC in years. Though obviously low budget, it seems what ever the budget there was they spent on blood SFX and pyrotechnics. Only in a Sam Peckinpah movie have I seen more bloodshed and bullet hits. Vicious, mayhem and massacres interspersed with torture and sex! A passionate if bloody movie. One for the boys!

Wild, Wild, Wild!

Willem Dafoe's performance is a career stand-out, Nic Cage takes a back seat but still turns out one of his best performances alongside Dern. A dark twisted tale that constantly keeps you guessing with a twist every five minutes to completely mess with your head. Why aren't more films made like this. Original and brilliant. Excellent.

The Wild One revisited
3 April 2003
Kathryn Bigelow made a name for her self as one to watch with this moody loose remake of The Wild One. A gang of bikers rides into a slow back water town for a pit stop to be received by a suspicious town folk. Stylish and very cool Dafoe as the leader of the bikers is charismatic and very watchable. Recommended.
