Three-Body (2022– )

Nice adaptation
23 April 2024
This animated adaption of the Liu Cixin's book has a surprisingly low rating. I guess, the reason is that many fans of the original story didn't like that it's got too far from the book. What they probably don't know is that this adaptation is actually a mix of two Liu Cixin's books: 'The Three-Body Problem' ('The Dark Forest' to be exact) and less known 'Ball Lightning'. In my opinion, it was a rather interesting idea to take the best of the two stories and create the one with new twists and a fresh ending. Watching apaptations that are too close to the original books sometimes can be boring because you already know the story. For those who still prefer the original, there is a Chinese TV series that started last year. The animation itself is pretty good, the main characters are well elaborated, and the plot twists are fun to follow.

Shallow
20 November 2021
It's been a very long time since I've read the book, so it's a bit vague in my memory now. Then, I watched this movie, and all I saw here was a mix of revenge and jihad for... something (better Universe, perhaps?) Shallow idea, keeping in mind how often revenge and juhad led to wars and disasters in human history. Now, I've just seen the Villeneuve's version, and it's SOOOO much better. I see a deep thought here: young Paul forsees his destiny and struggles with it. This is what it should've been. Was it in the book? Gone to reread it.

Pretty much pointless horror

I guess, the movie makers tried to say something important about the modern society, but I didn't quite get what it was. The actors play OK though.

A brilliant movie

Warning: Spoilers
A brilliant movie. Obviously, the hole represents our society, including all the historical attempts to make people happy: socialism, communism. The only true solution is to go down, to associate with the lowest ones to bring them up. Just what the Christ did: He went down to hell to send message upward, to save everyone. 9/10

Decent action but bad idea and terrible aftertaste
3 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
At first I thought I understood where it was going. Thomas plots a revenge, lots of innocent people die in result, we see signs of doubts on Thomas's face, but in the final scene David is morally destroyed and Thomas walks away satisfied. What was the point? Revenge is good?

I don't buy it
4 June 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Well, the movie is cool and I liked the action, but what's the moral? We've got your ordinary guy, like most of us, not untalented, but having your average guy problems: no progress at work, girlfriend wants to leave, etc. By chance, he meets someone, who suggests he tries new pills that make his brain work better. It's sort of a high-tech medicine, but basically it's a drug: you feel great while you take it, but you get withdrawal pains if you stop. So, the moral: the drugs are bad, but you are stronger. You can kill two birds with one stone: get your brain working 100%, extend your mind, get to the next conscience level, whatever, and pay nothing for that. It's like trying to cheat the devil: most of people lose, but you are special, you will win. I don't buy it: 3/10.
