wish i could rate it lower
11 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Ra one, the much hyped and much publicized flick that was supposed to bring a change in Indian cinema did succeed in achieving that. sadly, it got its goal by ensuring that no one will attempt a shot at change in coming 50 years for sure and we will be left watching absurd movies like ready and bodyguard and once again Indians will have to turn to Hollywood for "script" and "story". the problem with Ra one is that it is supposed to be a kid flick, superheroes always have been loved by them, but it incorporates lewd jokes and disgusting situations to do i know not what. the makers claimed to have seen 200 movies to get inspiration, but it feels they had been watching American pie instead of batman. the gay scene at airport, kareena's shameless rendition of abuses(she is good at only this, i suppose)make this a movie that will end up spoiling any kid who watches it. apart from that the movie is so lackluster, sfx are without any logic(the parking lot sequence where both Ra one and g one throw cars in air for no reason), story is missing, stereotyped portrayal of south Indians, weak dialogues, idiotic attempts at humour(srk as Jackson), inappropriate emotions from a game-file(read g one) make this the worst movie i have ever watched. anubhav sinha called dk bose vulgar. clear case of pot calling kettle black. ed wood would have made a better one with this budget.

I am still crying
7 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Without spoiling much for those who have not watched it, i will say that if you can withstand Marcia Harden's irritating character for the major portion of the film, the ending, is definitely going to move you to tears and how is where the magic of the movie lies. It might seem to be just another horror flick but trust me, its not. And the climax...my oh my, it is the one you will never be able to forget, so just sit down and watch the story unfold...and trust me you will not regret it. Stephen king has written a million stories and a lot of them had been made into movies, but this is by far the best i have watched, well apart from shaw-shank redemption. I would also like to mention the performance of Thomas Zane, who stands apart in this movie from all others and gives a dominant performance, especially the end scene where he showcases what a fine actor he is. Apart from that, i think Toby Jones, the actor who plays Ollie was also a major feature of this film. Too bad, they killed him so unceremoniously. So watch this, and i assure you that you will never have to watch torture porns to get your chills and thrills. This, my dear folks, is how a horror film should be.

Priest (2011)
7/10
just another vampire flick...i don't think so!!
18 May 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Every year there are a few vampire flicks. It has become a sort of a tradition as if each year Hollywood has to release a few movies featuring these undead, blood sucking, fang bearing monsters. So i went to the movie hoping to see another movie with crosses, holy water and sexy lady vampires but thank god it was a pleasant change. What makes priest different is that here the vampires are not some humans, who cannot come out in sun and love to hunt in dark, i mean yes, they still can't bear the solar energy and they still hunt in dark but here the vampires have been modified into eyeless animals and the film actually portrays the beginning of the existence of 'the human vampires'. The priest scores with its cinematography, the dark look and the whole new take on the vampire myth. The star cast is good but in such a film you really do not need a Paul bettany or a Karl urban. That they are in this movie still adds up to its positive column. The only thing i was disappointed about was Maggie q, i mean i drooled over her in die hard 4.0 but in this her getup was kind of a let down for her male fans. P.S.- watching priest was the right medicine for a vampire fan like me 'cause i had started hating them ever since Stephanie Meyer destroyed them in her books. 'Vampires belong to night and not to the Twilight'.

i hated it in the end
20 April 2011
Warning: Spoilers
critics may praise it, fans may celebrate its cult status but i simply hate this piece of rubbish. its not a bad movie and for the first hour and so it kept me glued to my seat but 'twas the ending which i simply loathed and it made me cry out in disgust. till the sacrifice began i was like," cool! awesome! amazing!" but the ending made me throw up. now that is a sign of any great horror movie if it causes a turbulence in your guts but this was simply deplorable. i mean we all watch cinema to get away from our humdrum life so why spoil that fun by making us think after a movie,"why did the hero die?". i would have rated it higher, if and only if they had at least shown a caption in the end stating that how the harvest failed next year as well and how the lord himself was sacrificed by the people and how the stupid belief of people broken. well, hoping that the sequel does that.

too short to entertain
25 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
this could have been one of those movies which you would love to watch on lazy Sunday afternoon to get a rush of adrenalin. unfortunately it is too short so that by the time your adrenals get the signal from the brain, it is over. A good premise, appealing locales, Nicolas cage & Ron Perelman and witches. plus the twist in the end was also good but unfortunately it was too short. the journey part should have been more extended with a liberal dosing of effects. more dangerous elements should have been incorporated and this would really have turned into an entertainer nevertheless it is still a decent movie and i would not mind watching it again provided i don't have anything else to watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Dorian Gray (2009)
7/10
watch this for Ben Barnes and Colin firth
25 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I have never read the real novel on which this movie is based but am well acquainted with the legacy of Dorian gray. so when i sat down to watch this movie i wasn't having any pre screening expectations like i had for da vinci code, harry potters and countless other films based on novels and stories i have read. so i sat and watched, and i sure loved this one. its a well made movie with some stellar performance by 'prince Caspian'. mark my words folks, given the right opportunity he can be the next breakout star of Hollywood, he can be cause in this movie he has shown such a myriad of emotions as his character gets transformed from a simple handsome youngster to a devilish man.

and the 2nd reason i loved this movie is cause it has Colin firth in it..need i say more?

Transporter sans "the fun"
25 March 2011
This movie is so dull and predictable that it took me 7 days to watch it. The first time i saw it, I was snoring after 40 minutes and i spent the next two days wondering whether to watch it again or not. Finally, I decided to give it a try and continued from where I last remembered sleeping off. Another 20 minutes and I was bored to another sound sleep. Well I must actually thank them for making such a sedative of a flick that too with Statham in it. And it was due to respect for this man that after 7 days, I finally had the courage to finish it off. But never again am I going to watch a flick just 'cause Mr.Statham is in it. If still you are wondering about the quality of this movie then i will sum it up in these simple words. Take any transporter movie and subtract the cars, the fun, the banter, the script, the characters and everything else you loved about them and you have seen this movie.

Q. was this movie produced and directed by a society of Stuntmen..cause that would explain why the only thing good in it are the action sequences.

Postal (2007)

critics need to sort their likings
5 February 2011
Just because you are a critic that does not mean you can't enjoy a Movie that is dumb but hilarious. Just 'cause a man has delivered some films worthy enough to be named a new 'ED WOOD' doesn't mean he can never create a winner. Trust me UWE BOLL does that with postal. Having played postal and postal 2 and seen all of Boll's previous work, I was apprehensive of watching this one but the scene 1 got me hooked upfront. Its a really good adaptation and the humour is brilliant. Its after watching it that I read critics say. and so I have learned the fact, " A critic is just another Moviegoer like all of us. Never take him/her seriously or you will miss a great fun like postal." Hope boll makes a few more like this P.S.- ZACK WARD ROCKS....AND MINI ME IS REALLY BRILLIANT IN WHATEVER HE DOES.

Predators (2010)
7/10
good but not satisfying enough
8 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
PREDATORS!! When I think of this word my neurons automatically spark back to the jungles where Arnold and his men are fighting out against a force they can't see, a force they can't overpower with all their gunpowder and artillery, a force that one by one kills them and skins them later, finally hanging them upside down from the trees. The movie was released way back in '87 when I was two. Well I got to see it for the first time in the summer of 2003; a whole 16 years later when sci-fi movie were a treat to watch thanks to the matrix and its many clones. This movie had very basic SFX but somehow they looked astonishing. When I think about it and question myself why does the movie still appeals to my senses and for the matter of fact to the senses of millions of movie aficionados' is because that the movie scored in one aspect; FEAR – it created a sense of fear that would make us curse the soldiers every time they made a silly move, a fear that made us wish that Arnold ends up gifting a really horrific death to "the jungle that came alive". It really was a movie, or rather is a movie that will be cherished by generations to come, no matter how visually unbelievable the SFX get in the future movies.

So when I heard about this new flick I was really excited keeping in mind the massacre of the franchise in the name of AVP. Also the heavy duty star cast got me all pumped up and I eagerly waited for the invisible, horrific aliens to blast my senses off using their triangle focus lasers. And so I went to see the movie the very same day it hit the screens in my town.

About 2 hours later I was out having enjoyed a lot. The cinematography was great (especially the scene where they all stare at the horizon in disbelief), the acting was good keeping in mind that it is an all out action flick (especially the guy who you people remember better as the venom/Eddie Brock Jr. from the Spiderman 3), the stunts and action was cool, the SFX brilliant and the biggest USP of all was a beefed up Adrian Brody (remember pianist, king Kong). But at the end of it all I was disappointed because the main star of the movie was not threatening enough. Yes the predators don't enchant you, they do not instill any fear in you, and they do not make you wish for their death. And that is where the movie ends as a disappointment for the predator maniacs like me.

My verdict is; go and watch the flick because it really is good but do not expect the same intensity as in the original. Also Mr.Brody is a great actor and has built up a lot of muscles but he still ain't Arnold when it comes to action flicks.

A word of note to the filmmakers: - please do not waste actors like Danny Trejo and Lawrence 'Morpheus' Fishburne in such miniscule roles.
