Scoop (2023)
B.O.R.I.N.G
Slow, boring, overstretched, tiresome, avoidable.
Makers could have finished in 2 hours. It is difficult to remain attached when the pace is so slow. To add the length, there were some directionless side stories.
You know it is coming, about to happen, almost there, but then it hardly moves. Some good acting and 'setting the era' are saving the otherwise weak show.
Based on true events is a good catch, but it has to be made honestly. Adding unnecessary dramatization and side stories doesn't make it better but spoils the experience. May be, next time I'll not trust Hansal Mehta blindly.
A weak show by Netflix, a rarity.
Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023)
Kisi Ka Paad Kisi Ki Pareshani
You know what could be a better utilization of your time, staring contest with that gecko on the ceiling. There movie is a certified trash, dialogues - dull, acting - annoying, songs - soul destroying, action - repetitive, story - was there one? Time spent in reading this review should be more than what this film deserves.
And just in case Salmon Bhoi wants to make more remakes, I would suggest him to remake Andaz Apna Apna or may be work on its sequel. After all if he can collaborate with SRK, why not Aamir.
And if you are reading this review after finishing the movie, may God be your savior.
1917 (2019)
Welcome (in)to the world of war
It started with a one line idea of "a journey with a foot soldier". It took a miracle to make the audience be the part of the journey.
1917, thanks to immaculate planning and perfect execution, immerses you into the world of first world war. The camera becomes a portal and the flow and the urgency holds us as a member of the mission.
Salute to the creators for their dedication to this craft, technical team for their magic, actors for their labors as more than the shooting, rehearsing each step, each pass and each scene, so many times to achieve the perfection is commendable.
A Poetry in each frame.
The Great Indian Murder (2022)
The murder you forgot...
Good part---
Started well with stylized back stories also covering some interconnected subplots. Thanks to Tigmanshu Dhulia for that. Well acted by seasoned actors like Ashutosh Rana, Raghuvir Yadav, Pratik Gandhi, Richa Chadha, Shashank Arora and Sharib Hashmi. PR Mani is a gem here. It is only after the introductory episodes the show slides down the lane.
Bad part---
Stretching conspiracy, forgetting some characters (of course revisiting them in some spare minutes later), adding weird threads towards the end, Some unnecessary open ended plot points, cliffhanger story (not even part closure).
Final words---
Avoid it. Or may be wait for season 2 review and then decide to watch or not to watch.
State of Siege: Temple Attack (2021)
Mostly good
Rated high for acting by main actors, near realistic action and camerawork.
Sub-par acting by junior/running artists, mixed editing of emotional-action scenes, overstretching some parts and too much preaching takes away a few points.
X-Ray: Selected Satyajit Shorts: Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa (2021)
Twice upon a train
What a delight. Magic delivered in a perfectly packaged 50 minutes. So many things executed with excellence and served with elegance. This is presented so well that you wouldn't blink.
A gripping story to keep you glued. Set design that is straight out of a dream. Two leads with impeccable skills. Well choreographed scenes, specially the one that goes for more than a minute without cut. And to cap it all, well directed.
And God, did I mention the background music? Just wow. A PERFECT SCORE.
Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar (2021)
One short of complete entertainment
Fresh story. Good treatment. Decent acting. Well directed.
The Family Man (2019)
The Good, The Bad and everything in between (Reviewing Season 1)
The Good
An excellent portrayal of the balancing act between Family and Duty. Well acted by the leads. Set designs are awesome. Opening/Closing credits are innovative and add to the style.
The Bad
Some elements are stuffed into the story unnecessarily. Anti-terrorist squad is always shown to have delayed realisations of every critical situation, which makes it more dramatic but at the same time less realistic. At times audience can see the trouble on screen, but the characters realise very late just to improve dramatic element. Hanging end in last episode was unnecessary, Terminating the story with a conclusive end could have marked end of a season, but alas.
The Betterment
There are three definitive moments in the S01E06, S01E09, S01E10. This could have turned into three short seasons. S01E10 could have been a season in itself, but they went for a disappointing hanging end.
