Thillalangadi (2010)
Kick o Kick! The brothers return with an engrossing fare!
To begin with, Thillalangadi will never reach the standard of its Telugu counterpart, Kick. However it is a good attempt, as there are some differences in the expectations of the Telugu and Tamil audiences. Overall it is an engrossing fare for the fact that it is a remake. The only thing that sticks out like a sore thumb is the fact it is a scene to scene remake, so they could have just dubbed the original.
Jeyam Ravi makes sincere attempts to portray his character the way Ravi Teja did, which could have been avoided. The charming Tamannaah too, could have avoided imitating llena. Vadivelu does make us laugh! However, Santhanam does not get enough footage in the movie, which is pitiful, as the movie runs for nearly three hours. Tamannaah too, contributes to the comedy tracks.
Director Raja does not stray from the storyline and keeps the movie culturally intact. Shaam does a good job of reprising his role from the original Kick as the badboy. However, the climax could have been better developed and it does not give a feeling of suspense.
Overall, the brothers' five ventures have turned out to be enjoyable indeed and have kept up with the expectations of fans. Thillalangadi is no exception. It is clear that both Jeyam Ravi and Tamannaah have 'Kick' started 2010 with a soon to be Tamil blockbuster, and will definitely have a few hits this year. It is not surprising if fans eagerly look forward to the next joint venture of Director Raja, the master of remakes, his brother Ravi and the beautiful Tamannaah.
