Reality in the UK
14 November 2019
So tonight I went to see Ken Loach's new film, Sorry We Missed You, and was able to ask a question at the Q&A, and have a brief chat after. This man is a legend. As a professional actor in the north, I've had to do other work to survive. Including, at times, being a "self-employed" courier. This film gave me flashbacks. Every bit of it is true. Long long hours, using your own vehicle, earning next to nothing per hour. The UK purportedly has its lowest unemployment ever. But those figures are massaged by the thousands of people working zero-hour jobs to survive. Everyone should watch this film before being allowed to vote. This is real life for so many in the UK today. And it's not the fault of the EU. It's not because of immigrants or refugees. It's the dismantling of the working rights won over many years by our unions. It started with Thatcher. The current Tory government have built on it with austerity and changes to the benefit system. Thousands are barely surviving. What will happen to the children of those families? Things have to change. Please #VoteLabour

Ad Astra (2019)
2/10
Oh dear. Spoiler alert.
23 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Absolute drivel.

A very disappointing movie. Trailer cut to create excitement - something that never happens in the film.

Lunar car chase and space monkeys added to keep audience awake but completely unnecessary for the plot.

So for your enjoyment, here's Ad Astra. An Alternative ending. For those who've seen it.

Brad Pitt arrives at Lima/Neptune to discover that his father is being held hostage by a band of space monkeys. After years of space gamma rays and psychological testing, the monkeys have become highly intelligent and are now running the ship. The monkeys know the Lima Surge technology will cause chaos on Earth that will result in the release and freedom of their ape brethren... Brad and Tommy have a huge monkey space battle and manage to beat them and destroy Lima before returning to Earth as a hero father and son team.

Thus halting the Planet of the Apes franchise.

You're welcome.

A beautiful film
18 March 2019
I managed to see this at a pre-release screening, and I hope it goes on to a cinema release as it's one of the most beautiful films I've seen in ages... a lovely, lovely film. It deserves to go big... obviously made with love, gorgeous camera work, amazing North Yorkshire scenery and a perfect cast. Take your family and see it if you can. It's a family film, could be a modern day Railway Children, or Swallows and Amazons.
