The Great Raid (2005)
A Truly Great Movie
I really don't understand why this movie did not receive critical acclaim. I am a big war movie person and have pretty much seen them all from the 1040's to the present. the account of the heroism of these rangers and Filipino freedom fighters is truly inspiring and makes me shiver like when I hear the national anthem. I think it is as good if not better than any war movie in the last twenty years. the subject alone is awe inspiring and the presentation of the entire story is unbelievable. the fact that it is a true story makes it all the more invigorating to watch. it's a movie you can definitely watch multiple times and get that patriotic feeling each time. in reading most of the bad reviews it seems like they are:
Anti American and American policy, even saw one quoting Bush politics and Iraq. saying it was American Propaganda, flag waving. thought I was back in the 60's when us soldiers would get spit on.
the movie wasn't perfect enough for perfectionist movie makers
Anti violence showing how brutal the Japanese were and they were that bad and worse. when I was young a friend of mines father had pictures of Japanese brutality in china like beheadings, etc. what is shown in the movie is mild compared to what the Japanese actually did to Americans and other people in countries they conquered. one person claimed it was being racist against Japanese.
if you eliminate all these BS low ratings the movie would probably be rated a 10.
Finding Forrester (2000)
Great
after many years I again watched Finding Forrester with my wife who never seen it. it keeps you spellbound from beginning until end. it seems to start out slow to give you perspective of the area of the Bronx and the living conditions and upbringing of the kids. you just sit in your seat and watch it until it's over. Connery at his best and I find it hard to believe that it wasn't nominated for any awards. I can go on and on but the only real thing to say is watch it. truly a terrific movie and in 2000 Roeper from Ebert & Roeper rated it in his top 10 and in 2009 #64 of his top 100 of the decade. probably a movie you never watched and should.
Golden Boy (2013)
really bad, really really really bad
This has got to be the worst cop show ever made for TV. It ranks up there with that psychotic doctor show that was taken off the air after two shows a month ago. Come on now NYC police commissioner in his mid 30's, what has this writer been smoking or is this going to be like St. Elsewhere. The arrogant little turd would probably get a blanket party his first week until he learned his place in the food chain. Immediately going behind his partners back, telling a high ranking boss that he wanted homicide and nothing else or he was going to throw a hissy fit, cry and tattle to the police commish, just for doing his job and probably something a lot of cops do. Let's make them all police commissioners. the druggy sister. GIVE ME A BREAK and he has one of those faces you just want to punch. I would give it a half star or less if that was possible.
