I don't consider this a movie
21 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie has such uneven tone and lack of clear artistic vision that you're better off just reading a news article about these events. It will be just as entertaining and you can do it in a fraction of the time.

If you're making a movie and a news article is more interesting than your film full of talented actors then maybe you should just call it a day?

Speaking of talented actors, Vince Vaughn was either miscast or underused, again the constant tonal shifts were jarring to say the least.

Also, are we supposed to like the main character? She divorces her husband for no good reason other than him being smarmy Joel McHale and them not talking ever, and instead of that being enough, she also thinks single motherhood with rando calrissians baby is a great idea. Just because there is a narcissistic feminist writing this movie doesn't mean everyone else is going to have sympathy for this entirely selfish, stupid act of a criminal about to go to prison. Some of us think there are enough stupid, selfish single mothers in the world.

Not about Obi-Wan Kenobi
6 June 2022
Obi-Wan Kenobi is an incompetent observer in his own story. If he's not running away, confused by small fences, or clumsily giving away his identity, he's just being led around while other characters do things.

Yeah, I don't need this bait and switch in my life. If Obi Wan were really this incompetent and weak he would have accidentally run into badly-aimed storm trooper blaster fire a few decades earlier or been trapped in a cage with a really short fence.

Boo!

Parasite will go down like Crash and Forrest Gump as an Academy Mistake
24 February 2020
The directing is ameteurish compared to the other nominated directors. The story is interesting but not excessively. The characters are all paper thin and one dimensional. Their motivations and actions are not justified. E.g. the main murder is almost comically undeserved, serving only the useless final plot twist. Americans must not have seen any Korean movies before because this tone is very common. There was nothing exceptional about this film but it probably surprised American audiences with many aspects unfamiliar to them. That is the only reason I can imagine this won the academy award.

And best director? Really? No. Definitely not. Any director that can't justify major main character actions with his or her storytelling still needs some work, not an academy award.

A Movie only Tarantino Could Pull Off
7 December 2019
I love this movie. It was one of the best movies I've seen in years and I can't think of another Tarantino movie that is better made.

I was compelled to write a review because I'm so confused by the 1 start reviews here.

This movie was an experience, an experience for people that love movies (and have not stunted their attention span with too much media). Everything in it was well earned. The surprise and reversal of expectations had to be crafted with great effort: a lesser director would have made this turn off narrative non sensical.

If you follow Tarantino through this story, he will give you a level of catharsis and enjoyment that few movies every have. The Shawshank redemption comes to mind for me as far as catharsis goes, but these are obviously much different movies.

Movies are stories. If you like great stories, this is one of them. But you have to sit down and listen and see every word and frame.

My Favorite Disney Movie
23 October 2010
I saw the finished movie at the screening before the wrap party. The movie works on every level. The Characters, the animation, the story, the score, the romance, and it's all very cute as well (in a way Disney can apparently still pull off).

The one thing that I didn't get into was the songs (Except maybe the "Mother Knows Best" reprise). They were a little weak melodically and you won't be singing them for weeks like I do "Part of Your World" every time I watch the "Little Mermaid." However, the songs are good enough not to bring the movie down. There are so many touching scenes in this movie and you will love all of the characters by the end and have an amazing time in the process.

It is definitely worth seeing in the theater, as this is probably the prettiest computer animated movie I've seen. I just can't wait to see it in stereo!

(BTW, I'm a 30 year old male who grew up with Disney. And I feel like I'm being objective when I say this movie works as a movie and not as a movie exclusively for 10 year old girls.)
