A depressing poorly acted mess
10 February 2022
As a Berliner, I really wish this film did more to present the fascinating time and place where this film takes place. I am sitting approximately 600 metres from Bahnhof Zoo as I write this review. The film is very grey and depressing. The acting of nearly all the actors in this film is abysmally poor, simply reciting their lines with no conviction. As a result it is hard to identify with any of the shallow 2 dimensional characters portrayed and there is no realy insight into the time and place where the film is set. A total missed opportunity in my opinion.

Interesting concept, boring lazily made movie.

I love and am fascinated by ideas of the multiverse, parallel time lines and other philosophical conjectures on reality. I generally welcome a film that explores such concepts and makes you think. However, a film should need to be watched multiple times in order to provoke thought or communicate a new idea. This film is confusing and is certainly not worthy of repeated watches. The creators of this film have been very lazy. This is obvious by even small details such as the clothing of the characters - seriously, who wears a tie in their garage? By leaving it to the viewer to struggle to identify the plot, the creators of this film have simply failed in the basic role of filmmakers, and that is to communicate a story via the medium of motion picture.

Very weak production values
19 June 2020
You would think that with the huge amount of money that the ARD and ZDF reap from overcharging households their so called TV Tax, that they would be able to produce something with production values that are higher than a youtube video. Unfortunately taking people's money is all the ZDF know how to do. Making films is beyond their capability

Allegory for climate change
10 December 2012
The harsh winds and the inhospitable conditions outdoors are a metaphor for our planet and its degradation at our hands through pollution. The ingratitude with which he eats his potatoes and the unkind manner he treats his trusty horse makes the viewer aware of how little we appreciate natures gifts. Furthermore, this movie contains some of the most vivid and memorable potato eating scenes of modern cinema. ALthough the scenes may seem pointless the eating of the potatoes is the most poignant part of the movie, illustrating both the farmers relationship with his daughter or wife that made them for him, and showing us in our face how little we understand the things that truly matter in our life and on our plant. These scenes stick in the viewers mind and make one reflect on ones treatment of others and the appreciation of the little things in life, even if they are as simple as boiled tubers.
