The Simpsons: Diggs (2014)
After years of low quality could our friends be back?
The answer to this question is no. The Simpsons jumped the shark years ago. That being said out of the fifteen or so seasons that have come since it's downfall one can definitely make a solid season out of the best episodes from this lot. Now this brings me to the current episode, one which I would put on that list of best episodes after the show's downfall. It deals with Bart and his falcon loving friend Diggs voiced by the wonderful Daniel Radcliffe. Bart takes a liking to Digs and the two become fast friends. However Diggs wants to be a falcon and attempts to fly. Doctors consider him mentally ill and take him away from Bart to an institution. He is able to get a one day pass which he uses to spend time with Bart and falcons. At the end Bart has to say goodbye to his friend who he will not see again for sometime. I thought this episode was brilliant because it was a very serious episode. It has excellent themes of friendship and obsession. It is a very beautiful episode to look at. And the best cultural references are to star trek( Comic Book Guy's shirt) and to the now dead language of Esperanto(the conversation between Seymour and Willie). This episode will go down as the highlight of the twenty fifth season due to its excellent story and subtle themes. My favorite scene is when Diggs is quoting poetry.
The Comedy of Terrors (1963)
Great film for what it is!!
So this film is not the greatest film ever made. This is no Casablanca or Lawrence of Arabia, this is a film for those who love film history and nostalgia of horror cinema from Vincent Price's House of wax to Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes. There is no doubt that this film has an all star cast. Another film which had Rathbone,Price and Boris Karloff was Tower of London, which was about Richard Duke of Gloucester and how he became king of England through murder and manipulation. The film was a great showcase of talent by all three actors. So now for this film, This film starts off with Vincent Price and Peter Lorre finding out that they have run their funeral parlor into the ground, and need to come up with cash to pay their landlord played by Bail Rathbone. So to do this they go out at Midnight to kill a former colleague of Price's. This does not go as planed however and soon Price decides to Kill Rathbone, the only problem is he never can die. The humor of the film is dark and it is what we expect from the masters of horror. I would have been happier had they been able to have had peter Cushing and Christopher Lee in this film, but I would have to see House of the long shadows for that to happen. So this film is not Ben Hur or To Kill a Mockingbird, but it is made for the fans of the Gothic horror and who loved the classics like Nosferatu or Phantom of the opera. I enjoyed this film so much because it brings back a time when you could see a movie that did not have to be great, but you could have fun watching it and this film succeeds in that portion. The acting as I said was good. The cat in this film is the beloved Orange from breakfast at Tiffany's. The atmosphere is dark and murky and the sets and art direction really show good background ,and foreground in the film. So is this a good enough film to take its place with Dracula or Frankenstein? No,but it is a fun ride.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 (2011)
The ultimate Potter film
Harry potter and the deathly hallows is a masterpiece of epic proportions. The visuals were stunning the way Voldemort turns to ash. The cinematography is breathtaking Looking at Scotland ,England ,and Wales was great. The acting in the film was outstanding I expect Alan Rickman to get an Oscar nod next year for his powerful performance as Snape ,Also Ralph fienes as Lord Voldemort could get a nomination. Daniel Radcliffe is a talented actor who is Harry Potter. His performance carried us the audience threw eight films ,but he was not alone, Jason Issacs Tom Felton Bonnie Wright Emma Watson Rupert Grint Helana Bonahm Carter Julie Walters Gary Oldman David Thewlis Emma Thompson John Hurt with Dame Maggie Smith and Sir Michael Gambon to name a few give the film their all ,and help Radcliffe go from boy to hero is just 7 years. I also expect the film to possibly get a nod for best picture. The book was a masterpiece , The film was an epic phenomenon.
