Malignant (2021)
Should've Picked What It Wanted To Be.
I don't get the positive reaction to this one. Yeah the last 20-30 minutes are very ridiculous, but not in a fulfilling way imo. After the initial befuddlement settles in, there's nothing really of substance here.
It can't decide if it wants to be a boring "serious" horror movie with generic characters and bad dialog or an insanely absurd schlock-fest. Consequently it ends up being a badly stitched version of both, which doesn't compliment either one and fully exposes their many faults.
The Fate of the Furious (2017)
A disappointing start to the last three movies in the franchise.
I enjoy Vin Diesel the least in this cast, so the whole soap opera with him in this installment felt tedious and boring throughout. Charlize Theron has the most pretentious and vague dialog, that is supposed to sound super cool but only succeeds at reminding you of The Matrix sequels. The action scenes, while great conceptually, are missing something in execution that the last few achieved. Also half of the cast feels unnecessarily crammed in for this plot. I'm ready for Justin Lin to return to this franchise, he knew how to construct the different set pieces to maximum effect and give everyone in the crew something to do.
