What happened to the matrix?
19 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously, this movie is terrible. I can't believe how many high ratings there are.

To begin, Noomi Repace is a dreadful actress which is why she has never been in a decent film, not one, and don't give me Prometheus because that was about as unwatchable as this nonsense. Not to mention, Rapace is way too old for the part. And why does she have an accent when she/they were raised by their grandfather who had no accent and they apparently don't live in a place where people speak with an accent? And my lord, the ridiculous cliched personas, the computer one with the skullcap, please... and the whole Patty Duke element. I mean we know it's all the same person. I guess I should be grateful they didn't have a back of the head double.

Onto the plot and the action: why shoot the doorman? How do a bunch of women who have never been in a fight or handled a weapon, wipe out teams of heavily armed, highly trained men? Women who spent six out of every seven days of their lives sitting on their rear ends are now Neo level super heroes., yeah that seems plausible. Then, there are several shootouts in this tightly controlled society but there's no reaction from any other branches of authority? The chase too was beyond ridiculous and made me shout "yeah right" at several points along the way ... The constant Matrix references were heavy handed and irritating as well.

The lame premise, the lamer "plan" the women come up with, the gratuitous unnecessary sex scene. And then the authorities are just going to let any slob civil servant (Adrian) from the outside see their big secret? No way... and how is it those girls aged 30 years yet siblings were still being tracked down and rounded up with regularity? It doesn't seem the policy is working out very well.

In the end I wasn't sure what motivated anyone. What motivated the team of bad guys? I didn't know which "sister" did what or why. I suppose I'd have to go back and watch it again to figure some of that out, but that ain't happening. Glenn Close - retire ... please

I don't want to keep going on, this movie is garbage, so dumb. I can't believe there aren't any other poor reviews here. I definitely figured I'd find some like I always do when I come here looking for one. Since I didn't find one that nailed it, I decided to write one.

South Park: The Streaming Wars Part 2 (2022)

Lame...
20 August 2022
I have enjoyed South Park right up until these episodes ... and generally I get irritated when I read reviews from people that say South Park has lost it and isn't funny anymore, but these two episodes were dreadful, lame, boring, stomach churning. There was zero humor here and lame social commentary. So someone is ticked off about the streaming services, then why is South Park on Paramount +? What's the joke? And the conversations, the tedious explanatory conversations, were so lame and boring, I just wanted to turn it off.

One dumb move after another
29 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This movie has its moments... Bill Paxton is very good as is Billy Bob Thornton, but the characters make so many stupid moves, it's hard to buy after awhile. First, why kill all those people in the beginning? If you rip off a couple of drug dealers and knock them around a bit, but tie them up and take off, nobody is going to be looking for your except maybe a couple of local dealers. If however, you stab a bunch of innocent people to death and leave people with plastic bags cinched around their necks , every cop from far and wide is going to be looking for you. And with these idiots, their identities are immediately known. I'm not really sure how. It seemed ridiculous to me how fast they were identified in fact. I found the murder scene shocking and compelling but it didn't make a whole lot of sense. Then they murder a whole different set of drug dealers, for what $8 bucks ... stupid ...

The cops aren't so bright either. They want to stake out Lila's house because they have reason to believe she may return there but instead of laying low they march in and tell the family what their plan is . You didn't know her mother and brother would warn her? Then of course you have Hurricane's brilliant plan at the end film. That worked out flawlessly ... and how exactly was he going to "let her go"? She shot a state trooper in the back of the head and Hurricane already had the murder weapon in his possession whether he realized it or not.

I wanted to like this movie, I remember being shocked by the opening scenes in the 90s but I don't think I ever finished it until now and I found the constant dumb moves by the characters aggravating.

Ignorance would have been bliss
25 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
20 something years ago, I used the original Matrix to write a very successful film class, a version of which survives to this day... but this film is simply dreadful ... it started out well, it really did ... I thought ok, it's meta, it's commenting on itself, there is some self effacing humor and hopefully it's going to go in a good direction.... It never did ... it got dumber and dumber and more annoying w/ each passing moment ...I think when Niobe appeared it went irretrievably south ...her performance was abysmal and the story at that point became unnecessarily convoluted and lame ...

What else? The flashbacks were superfluous... the Morpheus character was cringe factor number 9 and totally unneeded ... in fact there are too many damn characters ...Neo is too damn old ...I had to force myself to watch it until the end. And you know, they could have made something out of this, cut 30 or 40 minutes out, get rid of all the unnecessary characters and flashbacks, stay on message about humanity preferring feelings to facts or preferring illusion to reality and bring this big mess to conclusion in a timely fashion. ... and oh, stop trying so hard.

Maybe film is dead if this is the best that can be offered ...

The world's dumbest, sloppiest criminals
14 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Well the film had it's strong points: great actors, a lot of Twilight Zone veterans and Eli Wallah and a great noir vibe as well but these criminals, well they aren't too bright ... they put all this planning into picking marks to be mules and yet they are totally sloppy and inept about the pick ups.

The initial attempt was ridiculous; how much attention can you garner, especially when the mark is in on it? Do you need to be that obvious, a frenzied flight, a car crash, a cop killed? For the 2nd pickup, you kill a guy in the steam-room, with witnesses all around? No too bright ... Wallach isn't even dressed while the guy is dead right there in the steam room 5 feet away from him... why not go up to his room, secure the drugs and then kill him where no one will find him for awhile? Then they kill a servant for really no good reason and then they kidnap a woman and her 12 year old child (the kid used a huge bag of heroin to powder her doll's nose and no one noticed ... ok... great mother: lets her kid play w/ a giant bag of dope all day and then accepts a ride from 3 creeps in a car) ... and it seems these cagey criminals plan to murder the girl and her mother after they introduce them to the kingpin so he can share in the experience ... yeah, that won't attract too much attention, sounds wise, judicious ... then to wrap up, Wallach pushes an old man in a wheelchair to his death in front of hundreds of potential witnesses, nuns and kids and such, after which he flees the scene in an attention attracting panic ... smooth fellas, real smooth ... and it still took the cops the entire film to catch up with these guys ...

Anyway, I enjoyed the film but I much prefer smarter criminals who play it a little more carefully and don't draw unnecessary attention to themselves throughout the entire movie ...

So incredibly dumb
7 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
What garbage... pointless garbage ...I started writing this while there was still 10 mins left to go in the film. I thought could make some intelligent commentary but the ending was so incredibly, ridiculously moronic, I have almost nothing to say. I started with three stars but I am taking it down to one .

Let me say this: Sharon Tate wasn't such an dimwit idiot and Manson's girls were nowhere near that hot. They were mediocre by design so that they could be more easily manipulated. Tex Watson on the other hand was borderline special needs. And nobody thought or talked like that in the 60s. What a waste of time and talent. I thought the same about the Hateful Eight but this was worse. Unlike the Hateful Eight, I was able to force myself to finish this one... for what however, for what?

Terrible this movie, just terrible...

Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing
31 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously A&E? What a load of nonsense this is. I can't even believe John Ramsey was involved in this production. I watched a fairly serious documentary on JonBenet's murder just beforehand so I expected this documentary to be equally compelling and factual. Boy was I wrong. This played out like an episode of Ancient Aliens. It quickly went from presenting an interesting suspect to utter lunacy: cats from outer space, sex cults, burn-out hippy masterminds. I mean really man, who green lit this nonsense?

Then there is John Ramsey... this poor guy ... lost his wife and two daughters to tragedy and now at the the end of his life, he is trying to desperately find out what happened to his daughter before he dies. And no, neither he nor his deceased wife had anything to do with it. In fact, investigators most likely have the DNA of the person who committed this crime and that person will be exposed. I was hoping this "Hunting JonBenet's Killer: the Untold Story" would go down this path but sadly it didn't. John Ramsey is sitting there, clearly grasping at straws, as the theories presented to him by Elizabeth Vargas become more and more ludicrous. I half expected him to get up and say enough and walk out. He certainly seemed to deflate as the show dragged on. That Vargas woman should be ashamed.

Early on, a fellow named Todd Fuss is dragged though the mud as a suspect. This guy looks like the worst crime he ever committed besides maybe DUI, was selling pot in high school and Ramsey is playing along as they besmirch Fuss' name and character in the same way John was besmirched 20 years earlier, although obviously to a much lesser degree. From there the theories get even crazier: aliens, the cats who communicate with them, jail house snitches, Darth Vader (I kid you not) and on and on. The entire "investigative team" seems like a bunch of hacks who are taking advantage of Ramsey. They uncover nothing, zippo.

A deceased individual named Michael Helgoth is discussed early on. Years ago, I thought this might be the guy but I believe he was cleared in some way, some time ago. Still I would like to see his DNA tested. Other than that, there are few viable theories presented in this "documentary." Most likely, some bad actor became enamored of this child, some person who had a tangential connection to the family and/or maybe someone who thought they could make a buck off John Ramsey and they broke into the Ramsey house and killed JonBenet. I do hope that John Ramsey gets some answers before he dies but I do not think those answers will come from this crew.

Watch it again
27 December 2019
If you gave this a low review, watch it again... this is a beautiful film. It's not so much a space film or an adventure film or a survival film as much as it is a film about what it means to be human, what it means to be alone and the human need for interactions with other humans. It's a movie about strength and resilience.

Let's be friends
21 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Look, it had its moments... when Duke Caboom jumped to the carousel, I was definitely choked up but unfortunately we once again see a world wherein all the men are ineffectual idiots while the women are strong, determined and in charge. Can it not be a little more balanced? And having the name of Gabby's book be "Let's Be Friends". Really?? I liked the film references too, but Taxi Driver and The Shinning are a little heavy for kids, no?

My 6 year old enjoyed it immensely. It was one of the first movies she has sat completely through without asking to leave or falling asleep. In the end I suppose I enjoyed it too. I didn't despise it like Finding Dori or Monsters University but need it be so heavy handed with the social messages? Overall, I don't think it holds up to the others but it's not insufferable either.

Spike Lee is a hack
12 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
What a miserable movie about a bunch of miserable, mean people ... was there a redeeming character or moment in the entire film? What did the title even have to do with the film? Does Spike Lee think playing inspiring song after inspiring song with zero context and zero relation to the plot makes a great movie? He might want to give Martín Scorsese or John Hughes a call and ask them how it's done.

What was I supposed to get out of that film? There was not one character that I could even root for... and don't give me Troy, that psychopath, she was the worst of the lot. If you told me this movie was about the formative years of female serial killer, I could buy that. Was she the one who killed the dog? If not, she encouraged or at least inspired the other girl to do it for sure. And don't give me the mother either, slapping those kids around and screaming at them, no wonder they didn't behave and demonstred vitriol and anger towardseach other ( I'll give you the moment at the end when the brother takes Troy's hand on the couch as the only decent gesture in the whole film and that was in the last 5 minutes and was quickly overshadowed by incomprehensible anger and violence towards the glue sniffer).

What are all these positive reviews about? What is positive or interesting about this film? Every character was horrible to every other character almost without exception. Every time it seemed as though something positive was going to happen or the music indicated an inspiring moment was about to occur, someone was horrible to someone else. Occasionally, Delroy Lindo demonstratsd a spark of humanity but in the end he was a hopeless loser who let his family down. A comedy? What was funny about that? The glue sniffing Spike Lee, he was funny? He (along with all the characters) was despicable and tragic. If I grew up in Brooklyn during that time period, I would assume that this film would be an insult to all that I held dear. I am sure all the people living in Brooklyn in the 70s were not soulless, mean-spirited miscreants and I am sure they had some moments of joy, happiness and success and that they occasionally treated each other with decency and respect. I could not wait for this film to end... the worst.

Trying sooooooo hard...
27 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I liked the second one ... it had some very funny gags, like when they throw the kid off the fire tower ... funny stuff. This, not so much. I mean did everything have to be so in your face? The dancing, the dog, Drac and his reactions to the captain, a little much no? And Mavis, she's hot ... really hot. Do more with her. How long is she going to stay w/ the permanent juvenile of a husband? Develop their characters. In addition, that captain was super annoying. Van Helsing's great granddaughter? More like the spawn of Betty Boop and Popeye spun on bath salts. It just seemed to go on and on and the premise was lame and they were throwing bright shiny garbage at you every 5 mnues. I'm sitting there wondering, when are they going to bring this to conclusion? We got up and left before the end; my 5 year old had had it. If you have a 5-7 year old, I guess it's worth a run though but we came home and watched Coco... vastly superior ...

How could you not like this movie??
12 April 2016
I've been wanting to see this for a while. I was going to pay $14 bucks on Amazon for it a few months ago but I went on IMDb user reviews and I saw a lot of dog ratings so I decided to wait. Finally, it comes on Showtime and I'm thrilled but cable is only giving it two stars. So, I'm telling the wife (who is staring mindlessly into her iPad as usual), thank god I didn't pay $14 bucks for this but I give it the shot. I go back I read some negative reviews, I don't like the characters so much at first and I read a review wherein the reviewer claims he doesn't care about any of the characters. Forget that man, within short order I am absorbed. How could you not like the "mommy" character? Even the other two scoundrel criminals are eventually redeemed. And the idea of downloading your consciousness, how far out is that? That may mean immortality in our life time. This flick is very cool. Cable gives that garbage Mad Max: Fury Road 4 starts and this 2? I think not. Fury Road was contrived nonsense. And, and I just paid $14 bucks for The Revenant ... What nonsense... That guy would have died, dead... No revenge for the ludicrous Revenant. I wanted to call Amazon and demand my money back. Chappie on the other hand, holds together, builds and then pays off. It has all the important elements for a great film: journey of the hero, coming of age, the scoundrel redeemed, rich symbolism and illusion, not to mention excellent science fiction ... Who said its the worst movie they have ever seen? Try the Winter Soldier ... I walked out on that ...

Seek immediate medical attention
11 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Um, yeah, there is no way he could have survived that. Maybe, maybe he could have survived the first attack, but I don't think so. However, it was "game over" after the second attack... He would have needed a medi-vac and a level 1 trauma center immediately and he still would have died. Do the more positive reviewers realize there was no medical care, no antibiotics, no hospitals, way to do blood transfusions in the 19th century? What does it matter? He would have died then and there. Anyone with basic medical knowledge or who has watched a couple of Nat Geo docs on real bear attacks could see that. The antagonist was correct in his assessment of the situation, why demonize him? They had to have him kill the son I guess in order to make him a real bad guy because leaving Dicaprio behind was the right choice ... I don't even want to go on about this. I have seen some very excellent, very humorous reviews of how unbelievable and ludicrous this movie is. I'm glad Dicaprio got an Acedemy Award, but he should have gotten it for The Aviator or even Gangs of New York. For this, no. He had a better chance of surviving the sinking of the Titannic in 30 degree water for a day than surviving 45 minutes after that bear attack.

Terrible
21 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This show is terrible. They renewed it for a second season? Why? It sucks .... The main character sucks... He starts off doing massive amounts of a drug no one could get in large quantity in 1973... He is totally despicable and out of control. How could he possibly run a business? He is certifiable. I liked when the wife took off all her clothes. I might even have given this episode a 3 after that. She was hot ...real hot... But wait, she's had two children. What woman's body is that hot after two children? Then the imaginary friend... Please... Is this the only direction they could think to go in? Nonsense... I am only half way through the episode and I am done with this series. Scorsese, what are you doing here? You're killing me.

Who is watching this?
13 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
8's on the meta score for these episodes? Who is giving this show more than a 6? ... It's nonsense ... What a bummer, I really wanted this to work. And who was caught out on coke in the early 70's? No one, that's who. You could barely get it. You sure as hell couldn't score 1/4 ounce on a random street corner in NYC. In the late 70's, yeah everyone was doing it, but no one knew they had a problem until the 80's... Richie's wife with all her crap about no one doing drugs in this relationship ... Please, what a bunch of garbage ... People didn't think that way in the early 70's. Did anyone do any research? Very little rings true for the era. I am about done with this show. The characters are all despicable as well, especially Richie. F him, what a jerk. I like the blond. I hope it works out for her.

No, I don't like it
3 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
To be fair, I went back and re-watched this episode after I watched the entire season. I wanted to give it a chance. Now I am going to review it. I didn't like it. First off, I don't like the new theme song and the new opening. It is way weak compared to the first season (as was the season itself, for the most part). Next, there were no Europeans in prehistoric America and/or prehistoric Texas. This was irritating right from the start. Clearly, the pregnant woman, her compatriots and her child are of European descent and not Native American. Then, she is bitten by a non-poisonous snake. It appears to be a boa constrictor whose bite is NOT poisonous. Finally, I don't like the new family, especially the father. What a nasty, dangerous jerk he is and he never gets better. I don't want to seem negative. The symbolism is fantastic: the soaring birds, the Geneisis references, the cleansing waters, a Fahrenheit 451 reference, etc - clever, well written. And there is some very cool stuff in this season: Kevin's journey through purgatory reminded me of Tony Soprano's, but this new family and new setting never really did it for me. The first season was phenomenal and while this is still probably the best show on television, I hoped for more in the second. Well I have high hopes for the third. I assume this can't be the end.

8 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Is this going anywhere? Or is it just spinning round and round like Lost? It seems that there are more and more questions and absolutely no answers. I feel like this season is going to let me down. I have dumped the Walking Dumb for this. I simply can't take how idiotic the characters and their decisions are on TWD. With The Leftovers, at least in the first season, the characters seemed to act in ways that made much more sense in terms of human nature. Now I see the show drifting, making less and less sense and tending more and more towards some divine intervention, magical nonsense. Lost became so convoluted and ridiculous after a while with nary a logical answer or conclusion ... hate to see that happen here, but it sure seems like this is the way this is going.

I'm done
21 October 2015
I'm done with this show ... I'm not watching it anymore, I'm not recording it, done. I just don't think people would act like this in this situation. The writers might want to do a little study of human nature, maybe read some war literature or some accounts of disaster survival. People would band together against a common enemy, defeat that enemy and then worry about killing each other again. This is stupid, ridiculous. It is contrary to the basic tenets of human nature. This is just pissing me off. I'll go watch The Leftovers. At least the characters act in ways that make sense. This is total nonsense.

On top of that, the characters themselves make idiotic decisions. Their personal decisions make zero sense. Everything they do is the last way anyone with any sense would act. What a bunch of jackasses. The human race deserves to wink out if this is the best it can offer. But of course people wouldn't act is way. They would adapt, endure and move on. That is the history of the human race. That is how we conquered this planet.

Even the invaders, what is their angle? What is their payoff? THERE IS NONE. Ridiculous crap ...

Tremendous
18 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Tremendous, tremendous, tremendous .... This is one hell of a show... So much better than the Walking Dead. Why do I compare the two? They are both the sort of end-times dramas that we are all craving because subconsciously we see how insane and over crowded the world has become and we are terrified something terrible is about to happen... Anyway, in this show people act as you would expect them to act in an extraordinary, crisis unlike the idiots on the two Walking Dead shows. They don't make idiotic choices for no apparent reason - those counterintuitive decisions that invariably lead to their demise ...The characters in The Leftovers are deeply human and show humanity for all its strengths and weaknesses. I'm ready to drop the Walking Dead altogether (you couldn't pay me to watch Fear the Walking Dead again). I suppose it demonstrates the superiority of HBO over commercial TV cable. This first season of The Leftovers got me, hook, line and sinker.... Hope it doesn't let me down... Hope it doesn't turn into some god thing ... ...

Why don't you just kill them?
13 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I don't get it. Why would you take the zombies for a lovely walk on a summers day? Where exactly were they taking them? Why not kill them? How? I don't know, get some fuel trucks and flood the pit with diesel and burn them, burn them up until they are ashes. How about that? The truck is going to collapse into the ditch? Well how about pulling another truck up behind it or some heavy equipment or all the cars you for some reason decided to line part of the road with? ... Drop some rocks on their heads... set up a sluice and let them walk through like cattle and zap them in the head with long sharpened sticks .... Find a chemical plant and get a truck full of acid ... Get some explosives and rain them down into the pit .. Shoot them with a bunch of .22s.. Pipe bombs ... Anything, try anything but letting them all loose and walking them by your community or even walking them into someone else's community .... Oh thanks Rick, thanks for bringing the million zombie march to my neighborhood ... Speaking of Rick, our clueless leader, nice plan pal .. Worked out real well, I'd be so I glad we put you in charge to screw us all.

Finally, Glenn, how about before you let all the zombies out of the tractor store u climb up on something to at least give the zombies a challenge?

Dreadful is the word that continually comes to mind
24 September 2015
This show is just short of unbearable ... Were it not for my 14 year old son who wants to watch it with me, I would drop it. It's just dreadful and ridiculous .. The acting and plots are abyssal. Nothing anybody does makes sense or rings true. I simply don't know what else to say, it's horrible ... There are very few characters who don't need a good slap, especially the drug addict, his sister and his parents. The drug addict however is the most useless. Cut him loose. The best part of the series so far is his mother beating the snot out of him. It is the only reaction that makes any sense on a human level. Personally I would just turn him over to the zombies. Overall, the writers and creators should be ashamed. The people giving it 9s and 10s, do you work for the network?

Dreadfully, dreadfully awful
1 September 2015
This show is awful, almost unwatchable... There is not a lot I can watch with my teenage son that we can both get into together. We started watching the Walking Dead a couple of years ago and both really dig it and have even bonded over it, but this mess is a HUGE disappointment. The acting is ridiculously bad. The effects are cheap and flimsy. The whole story line is dumb and contrived. The original series was set in what, 2010? Why do they all have 2015 technology? The riot scene looked like a high school film class project. The barbershop scene, really? Did anything ring true there? Could the acting and dialogue be any worse?

I mean the first episode was bad, I know but I figured it would get better. No such luck ... What a bunch of dummies. There is not one character I am rooting for, maybe the cop with the trunk full of water, at least he has some sense ...

Was that a movie?
21 June 2015
Was that even a movie? It seemed to be one long action sequence. I wasn't even 100% sure who Max was until the end of the movie when he says "My name is Max". Who was the actor? I have never seen or heard of him before. He seemed just another scruffy male lead with a Brit accent that they stick in these films either because all the old standard actors are too played out or won't lower themselves to these nonsensical remakes of classics that should be left as they are. If this is a great movie, then film is dead. Clearly, this is some new genre of entertainment. An art form ? I don't know... I don't think so.... More like pointless nonsense... I wanted to get up and leave but I kept hoping it would turn into a movie. The kid, Nub, was the best part of the film and he was far from fully developed. In fact the 2 high points of the film were where Max brought him the boot and where Nux sacrificed himself for the girls... As for Furiousa ... Lame ...Why? Why even bother with her? What was her motivation again? Who was she? Sure I enjoyed the little homages to the original, the music box the boomerang, otherwise it had zero relation to The Road Warrior. And let me get this straight: he's out in the wasteland surviving unsurvivable situations 6 times over and yet he finds a bunch of hot runway models in the desert who would have been WAY safer staying where they were ...and where exactly was Fury Road ? I never saw a road of any kind. What was the refinery in the distance that resembled Oz ... Dumb dumb dumb ... Dreck the whole mess ...
