Tayna pechati drakona (2019)
If this is not PULP, nothing is !
Don't take this movie seriously. There's a senseless historical and mythical context as pretext for relentless action and full-nonsense fun. There's a few cameos including a Jackie-Arnie laughable fight full of jokes between them. There's flamboyant (en français dans le texte), over-the-top settings, costumes, effects and so on.
It's not the movie I would watch for a strong, surprising scenario, subtle acting or a deep thought on a social topic. But that's the movie I would watch for laughing out an afternoon or evening !
Well, well, that's just what I would describe as pulp. And I love pulp ! Si this movie gave me a very good afternoon...
Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands (2016)
Take it for what it is...
First and foremost, this should never have been titled Beowulf... It you rate it on the title, then you give it a 1. I'll not rant on it as many others have already done it better than I.
Just watch it for what it is : pure pulp resurrected from the Conan Era, set in a low-fantasy crossover of Xena and Mad Max... Then, it stands its ground quite honestly, justifying my 7 rating.
Now I've got 242 chars left to fill, so I'll detail a little... It's neither a masterpiece nor utter crap, I see it as quite average but leaning on the good side... This applies to sets, stories, CGI, acting, but one thing is unmistakable : it has English flavor.... And as to the multicultural side, as it's by no means intended to any realism, I see no issue in this...
Ferdinand (2017)
Drôle, terrible et touchant, toujours magnifique....
Sorry, I just can't find the english words, so I say it in french : Drôle, terrible et touchant, toujours magnifique....
This movie can be heart-wrenching at times, fun most of the Time, and touching. It's masterfully done and conveys a powerful message and a great sense of wonder.
Little Monsters (2019)
Improbable combinaison that works great !
Kind of Kindergarten Cop vs Zombies ! Add Lupita Nyong'o as Schwartzie, a good number of unexpected plot tricks, and fine characters...
Quite slow to start, but it makes for a fine building of characters.
Attack of the Killer Donuts (2016)
Silly & fun, only for B-movies lovers !
Home made feel, lamest and craziest moments in the same flick, watched it on the titre, but it was a fun expérience... Just don't take anything seriously on this one...
The Day of the Dolphin (1973)
Good adaptation of a very very good novel
The adaptation is quite OK, of course nerfed to fit into two hours run time, and with much less political aspects of government involvement. But the premise is well exposed in a solid scenario, and the characters are relatable and well played.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016)
They groked their topics!
Blending such different genres is a difficult task and on this one, imho, the cast and crew succeeded and even exceeded my expectations. They had 3 topics to master :Pride & Prejudice, Zombies, and how to blend them. Hence the title of this review!
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984)
The wrath of Khan, part II
I've never considered these two movies apart. For me, they are a single, two-parts movie. ST II is incomplete without ST III and vice-versa, and the whole two-parts movies is the best of Star Trek with TOS crew.
Avatar (2009)
