Degrassi Takes Manhattan (2010 TV Movie)
5/10
Try not to think and you'll be fine.

I was pretty excited for this second Degrassi movie. Mostly because it focused on the first generation of characters and the new characters had less story. But in the end...the new generation was much more interested.

Basically, it's summer for the Degrassi kids and they're all going their separate ways. Spinner and Jane are supposed to be together but Spinner finds out Jane cheated on him months ago so they break up. Emma is back and long story short, she blows up the dot accidentally, costs Spinner his job and they end up getting married à la Las Vegas. This storyline was extremely disappointing and, literally, made no sense. First of all, Jane and Spinner were one of Degrassi's best couples just because of their great chemistry and well developed relationship. Breaking them up out of the blue and matching Emma with Spiinner is insane because Emma and Spinner had talked like what...8 times before this movie? Oh sure that makes total sense. It only makes it worse that they didn't annul the wedding.

Now for the new generation. It's Holly J and Declan's summer of love and Fiona is more than a bit left out and...jealous? We find out that Fiona has a bit of an unhealthy obsession with her twin brother and takes out her revenge of on Holly J...and let's just say the results are very shocking and the most interesting to happen since the season 8 finale. Good job to Charlotte Arnold and Landon Liboiron who shine in the little movie.

So it has it's good and it's bad...Very well done apart from, of course, the Emma and Spinner storyline. I hope they continue that story if Miriam and Shane decide to come back to the show one day.

Gigantic (2010–2011)

Watchable I guess.

The writing isn't all that good. I find that often, it's not the actors fault bu the writers that the characters come off as...one dimensional. A lot of plot holes too where you can easily say "Why didn't they just *insert obvious solution*...The show can pack in a few good one-liners here and there.

For a show about the glitzy and glamorous life of Hollywood rich kids it's poorly edited and everything looks choppy. Often use of bad camera angles and inappropriate lighting. I personally think this is the show's worst part.

Grace Gummer isn't as awful as people say she is. But i'm not so sure that she would be on this show if it wasn't for the fact that her mother is Meryl Streep. She's pretty bland and just below average. The rest of the cast is just fine. Nothing spectacular. The highlights being Gia Mantegna and Skyler Day.

Many people say this is shallow but what's with the not so attractive leads. Normally I wouldn't mind, but for a show about glitz and glamour that not heading for realism...What's the point of not having an all around super good looking cast?

This along with Degrassi is the only original programming Teennick currently has. It's a little sad that Teennick cancelled shows like Instant Star and South of Nowhere to go in this direction but what are you going to do...The only reason I watch this show is because I have nothing to watch after Degrassi...which despite being a low budget half hour Canadian teen drama that has taken a toll for the worse in the past few seasons...is still better than this show.
