Sense & Sensibility (2024 TV Movie)

Great start
26 February 2024
I'm intrigued by a version of "Sense and Sensibility" with a predominantly black cast. Sign me up! However, I have to admit, I initially had doubts about the quality since it's a Hallmark production. Don't get me wrong, Hallmark content is like comfort food-light and easy-but historical romance typically demands more complexity, from costumes and locations to the actors' ability to embody their roles.

So far, I'm pleased with the casting choices; the actress is stunning, and the actor is handsome. However, Dan Jeannotte stands out to me. It's not that his acting is lacking, but his wardrobe and styling make him appear older and less charming.

Another point on styling: If Hallmark ventures into historical romance adaptations like this, perhaps they could provide costume training for the actors. I was quite bothered by Meg's awkward gait in her costume; it seemed cumbersome, causing her to walk awkwardly like a duck.

What an amazing show
26 February 2024
I initially thought this would be a lighthearted show, but "Lessons in Chemistry" turned out to be a series that sheds light on the challenges women faced in the 1950s. Despite being initially thrown off by the scattered plot concept, I found it to be an engaging way of storytelling. Even when the subplot veered into the protagonist's dog, I found it humorous and a welcome distraction from the injustices portrayed in the laboratory. "Lessons in Chemistry" serves as a reminder for both men and women about the struggles women endured and the fight for respect based on their abilities, as well as shedding light on the challenges faced by black people during that era. It's a standout historical drama that highlights topics rarely explored in television series. Kudos to Apple TV for bringing it to light!

Will Gluck, whyyyyy... WHYYYYYYY!
21 February 2024
Let me put my honest confession upfront: I usually have a soft spot for romantic comedies and don't really nitpick about the storyline as long as it keeps me entertained. However, "Anyone But You" is an exception. It unsettles me. Not because there are scenes that warranting trigger warnings; rather, it's the erratic plot jumps that make me question a lot. The pacing is too fast, feels like they're in rush, and also robs the chance to enjoy the chemistry between the lead characters. And adding more insult to injury, the film lacks fan service. The romantic scenes feels like mocking rather than embracing the genre. You know, like Scary Movie but romcom edition.

I hate this movie so much, it makes me curious who's the romcom hater behind the script. And I'm shock when I find out Will Gluck (the one behind the teen masterpiece Easy A and another favorite of mine, Friends With Benefits) is the one who directs AND writes the script. WTF?! Why on earth he deliberately ruins it when he actually can make good romcoms?!

Youtube Ad Introduces me to this series
10 October 2023
Last time I watched a crime drama series with black actor as the lead was Rosewood. So when I watched the ad on Youtube, I'm kinda intrigued. What kind of new thing this male cast brings to the table. The answer is... quite a lot. His acting, top notch. I dig his easygoing vibe but not in such self-damaging way like in Lie To Me. I also learn a lot from the series, especially the term of psychology. It doesn't feel like out if touch like what I feel watching Perception. And the case is quite interesting too, I watched the first two episodes and enjoyed hoth of them. I'm so gonna watch this again every week. This is brilliant and worth to try~

I don't mind the plot, but the fashion element of this movie is highly questionnable
2 October 2023
This is a Hallmark movie, so I expect the light vibe. I don't mind at all. But sadly, since the story is about fashion industry, I really hope they take the theme and setting seriously... which they don't. Since the blah sweatpants show up, I know it's gonna be a disaster. And my my, I hate when I'm right. Why can't they contact a fashion designer or a stylist for this movie? So we can have a proper fashion for this. Instead, I have to see ugly stuff parading here and there. And not even an edgy style. Just Amazon-bought stuff that makes me hate this movie even more. I regret watching this. Sorry~

Romcom FTW! Yes yes yesss~
30 August 2023
I watch this for the dogs. No, really. I enjoy some of Lucy Hale's movies. I only know Grant Austin from his Glee's era (sorry). BUT... since this is a romcom, I think I will give this a chance. I'm so happy I watch this gem. It's a feel good movie and that means it needs to watch it again. The plot is so simple and direct. The dogs are gorgeous (I love Chloe, Channing Tatum is growing on me). Grant is really convincing as a character with social anxiety. I don't have one but he makes me feel like I get the struggle. But I understand Lucy's wall more. She really does it until it feels like she's in a self destruction mode. So damn, I believe both characters' struggle and I'm really happy they have their happy ending. Thank God. 💕💕💕💕 I'm so gonna watch it again.

What a FUN ride
6 August 2023
I watch this without any expectation. I only know one of the main character as part of the Mean Girls musical casts. But I can't regret my decision watching this. It's bold, funny, and crazy. The WAP cover is unbelievably funny *I giggle like a school girl on this* The friendship theme may sounds like a cliche, but the writer really knows how to make it important. I enjoy their dynamics, the banter, and for a while they feel like real friends. The only complaint is strangely the middle part. The basketball part isn't my favorite. It doesn't bring much funny as other scenes, just outrageous sex scenes. But overall, very recommended. I'm so gonna watch this movie AGAIN!

I Like It But The Time/Deadline Won't Give You Much Creativity
25 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoy the first two seasons. Both of the winners of season 1 and 2 are well deserved. They showed their creativity during the season and the final shows are exciting to watch. Although I'm not really enjoy the way the contestants are eliminated, I understand most of the judges say about what lack in their designs. The first season panel of judges is so full of drama (cough-cough-Naomi Campbell-cough-cough) and I believe the winner will be so much different if the set of judges are switched (season 1 judges are more about the tailoring and the choice of fabrics, and season 2 judges are clearly about the boldness of the design and sometimes the vibe).

The only thing that concerns me the most are the deadline and the challenges. I understand that fashion competition need this, but on a couture challenge you can't put two days maximum. You will always get a mediocre result, which is against the principle of haute couture. Put more time but with more challenging theme or something.

As an audience, I want to be inspired, to have a mind blowing moment by the outfits that come out to the runway. And since the branding of the show isn't a sewing competition, please only make a sandbox free-design challenge for first episode. And flying the contestants to several places doesn't make the design more excited. It feels like it only for the optics, not the result.

Make a specific theme, like Met Gala or a theatre production costume, so each designers can challenge their own visions and show their best.

Or challenge them with a new target market, like children fashion or OOAK dolls. Or a business related challenge, like working on uniforms or working on shoes or bags. By the way, my mind is still traumatized by the basicness of the Jonny Cota's bum bags--that's not a designer work, they feels like they're belong in Payless store--very meh. And to think that Altuzarra and Nicole Richie let the basicness slide like that (even for a House of Harlow standard it's still so disappointing) really bums me out.

And once again, don't expect a good couture design in a two days deadline.

I still haven't watch the third season, but I really hope something will change.

Netflix, why there's no ad about this movie?
22 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, I'm pissed! There's no ad or even a post about this even in my local Netflix social media post. And to add my anger, it starred Rachael Leigh Cook! I mean, it feels like her true comeback to romcom after He's All That few years ago.

Second, let's talk about the movie. It's about a woman who recently broke up to be sent to Vietnam by the company she works in LA to check out a local tour bus company if it's worth to buy. I thought it's gonna be a typical American romcom with exotic places slapped in it. But no. It's actually gives a warm local side, and a knowledge about Tet celebration. The ML's performance match with Rachael, which is a shame when I found out that this is his first romcom. He shoulds works in romance genre more!

I want to give this ten stars if only there's more scenes for the main characters to embrace their romance. The ex factor is good for the third act, but it's kinda weird to see him chasing her to Vietnam since it's his decision to break up. Even with the 'regret' angle, still doesn't change the fact that he impulsely moves without her knowing. And even in the third act, he only focuses on the regret, not planning anything if they actually back into relationship again. Which contradicts with his personality and their relationship principle as the predictable and comfort one.

Anyway, I had fun watching it. I checked the writer's other work and found some titles that I need to check out. Good job to everyone that involves in this movie. Can't wait for another Vietnam's romcom💕💕💕

This is boring
3 April 2023
I have high hopes for this series. A typical office comedy series, with various character and their shenanigans. But sadly this is not it. The story itself doesn't bring us as the audience to care, or even knowing the characters personally. The characters heavily rely on the 'label'; the boss, the new worker, the mysognistic, the feminist, etc etc. Where's the funny? And what makes it even sadder, I hardly see the use of the public library as a setting. I only see they sort of 'interact' among the book, but not the actual job of librarians or what they actually do everyday. It feels like written by someone who seach about librarian's job and make a story about it.

I'm disappointed. After four episodes I decide to wave my white flag.

How could be a show about witches be this boring?
25 February 2023
Tbh, witches are badass. And the best seasons in American Horror Stories both put black magic as the center of the stories.

And I only watch this because I like, no LOVE Interview With The Vampire. The vibe is different, I realize that, but at least they'll try to put the same pace on this series.

Well, they don't. The story is sooooo boring and slow, and the fact that there's lack of conflict make the watching is unbearable. They don't even try to make the show entertaining enough. Feels like they all give up.

Ugh! Whatever Anne Rice's book will be adapted after this, I will be worry. Verrrry worry~

Gasping~
16 September 2022
Oh. My. God. Here I am, thinking this is gonna be a teenage version of Strangers On A Train. But hell no, this is a fun version of Handmaiden. Damn, lots of twists and turns.

The story is simple. Two strangers accidentally meet and later find out that they have grudge on someone. Drea at her ex, for leaking the sex tape. And Eleanor at her ex too, for crushing her heart to pieces. They then decide to do revenge for each other. Which means each of them should try to put each other into their object of revenge's attention.

I'm gasping and laughing all through the movie. And after that, I certainly sure that this is my new favorite. So effed up. So amazing!

A Jane Austen-esque story... but not quite satisfying for me
23 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I like the whole story tbh. The casts play their role respectfully. The only problem is Mr. Malcolm itself. His list is quite make sense, but his action is not. There's not much scene to make audience believe that he likes Selina for what she is not what she 'acts'. The Mr. Darcy factor is stuck for just being arrogant. Too one note. He doesn't really change (except his view about his list) and it disappoints me.

Suprising 2022 reboot
20 August 2022
I can honestly say that Original Sin has been one of the best things I have watched in such a long time. The mystery is great, the cast and the backstories are connected, every episode feels like a treat. After The Perfectionist, to be honest, I'm kinda pessimist about this. But Original Sin proves me wrong and I'm so glad to admit it. Bravo, Guys!

Acorn did it again! Casting Jane Seymour as lead character is the right decision. She clearly have fun as an amateur detective, and combining classic literature as a part of story is just great. Can't wait for season 2, Acorn! 💋

I found my new favorite romcom
9 August 2022
Tbh I'm shock too. I can't believe a movie with the overused plot ends up warming my heart the most. The story is very relatable, the characters are strong and believable, and I get to see a peek into the Indian younger generation's life. This is a very comforting movie. Recommended AF! 💕💕💕💕💕

Celebrity Romcom
11 February 2022
Check a lot in my romcom list. And the fact that Owen Wilson is such an adorable male lead makes it even better. The story, at first, is hard to believe. But her meltdown and the recent news of her fiance's betrayal makes ut believable.

I don't see them as a couple, but there something about Jennifer Lopez makes it possible. Gosh, I can't stop smiling watching this~

I don't get it
17 January 2022
I still don't get the premise. The trigger is their friend's death, but the result are so weird. One of the character wants to start an affair with her trainer. What?! Based on the trigger? And the worst part is that the comedic ambience isn't ha ha funny. But very cringe. I hate to see the cast of great actresses like this end up cancelled.

2 December 2021
Kinda wait for them to kiss~ 💋 Awww, what a heartwarming movie. They care for each other, they just can't see it.

The family is very cute and quirky, they support for the relationship to bloom. And the perfect part: Jennifer Coolidge is just the cherry on top the audience need~ Thank you Netflix.

The acting is just okay (I've seen teen movie with horrible acting), but the most unforgiveable thing is the male lead's long hair wig. What's up with that? Just horrible~

10 August 2021
I watch this because I love cop drama and Hudson & Rex. I feel like this show will share similar vibe too.

Hell no!

The acting is sloppy, zero chemistry between the main actor and the dog, and also... what's with the logic in the script. I tried hard to finish eps 1 and abort to watch eps 2. Go watch H&R instead.

Here's a confession: I watch this simply to maximize the usage of my Disney+ account. BUT... after first episode, I find myself addicted to this series. The writing is impeccable, the young casts have great acting skills, and John Stamos is surprisingly convincing as a basketball coach.

I recommend this a lot. And I really hope there will be a second season.
