Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris (2022)
Is this a Hallmark production?
This version of "Mrs. Harris..." invites you to believe that good people will always get what they deserve. This fantasy tends to work in some movies (most notably in children's movies) but it is hard to lose yourself in the Cinderella fantasy of this particular movie.
Bad people are baaad, good people are gooood. The "romance" was predictable and cringey, possibly unnecessary. I don't know if the original novel is anything like this, but the writing was just bad all around.
If anything, the little window into the process of the creation of haute couture was interesting, but not even the costumes could save this Hallmark Channel movie.
Rebecca (1997)
Nope
I'm sorry, but no. Just stick to the Hitchcock version.
PS: Yes, I read the novel by de Maurier.
The Aspern Papers (2018)
Great student film
Don't expect to hear from this wanna-be director again... He had a chance at his first film and he completely blew it!
Bad acting, bad costumes, bad makeup, cheesy flashbacks, cheesy voice over, mediocre cinematography... just don't do it. Don't watch this.
The Host (2013)
A movie without a climax
First of all, I have to say that I DID read the book and thought it was a really cool idea. I didn't think Stephenie Meyer's use of the idea, but I thought maybe in the movie it could get fixed. I was wrong.
This was my experience in the theater: People didn't laugh at the jokes in the movie but people (including myself) did laugh at awkward serious wanna-be scenes. When the credits (finally) hit the screen, almost everyone in the audience sighed with relief and laughed at what they had just seen.
I did not have problem with the acting, the costumes or anything that portrayed that world. It was the lack of a good script. This movie CLEARLY didn't have a climax.
If you read the book, sure, go watch. You can't avoid watching a movie based on a book you read right? But if you haven't, run away! I want my money and my 3 hours back!
