Ted Lasso: Sunflowers (2023)
Top of the Table
Funny, moving and heartwarming. This episode gets to the very heart of what this season, has up until this episode been missing out on.
Splitting its cast into pairs (plus the team) gives each character room to breathe and allows for some moving development.
The setting, Amsterdam allows for a fresh feel, and certainly acts as an advert for that great city.
One focus, on a certain footballer may drive some haters to give this episode a low rating. But this is a true reflection of what many professional sports players have gone through.
In summary, after a poor start, Richmond FC and Ted Lasso may well have turned a corner.
Sometimes, you have to believe.
Morbius (2022)
Oh Dear
Dreary and dull, this by the numbers origin story is possibly the worst Sony adaption of a Marvel character yet. Kudos to Matt Smith who does the best with the material on offer.
Hawkeye: Echoes (2021)
A nearly flawless piece of Marvel
Jeremy Renner gets to bring his acting chops to bear as we take a peek into the mental status of Hawkeye, so much communication with so few words and a maybe, maybe not, cameo that will have Marvel aficionados rubbing their hands with glee.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 16: The Rescue (2020)
Made a grown man cry
As a nine year old I watched the original film at the cinema.
Today, I am nine again, with tears of joy.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 14: The Tragedy (2020)
The Mandalorian Does it Again
Quite possibly the greatest 34 minutes of Star Wars ever made. Guest director Robert Rodriguez seamlessly meshes Star Wars lore and history with action and emotion. Unmissable.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 8: Redemption (2019)
Sublime
As close to perfection as any episode of television I have seen. Masterfully directed with perfect pacing. I want more and I want it now.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 7: The Reckoning (2019)
"Chewie, we're home."
Superbly directed, smoothly paced and featuring excellent chemistry between the characters, this must come close to thirty five of the best minutes of any Star Wars ever made.
Within the first few scenes, you will be quoting Admiral Akbar, but stay calm and enjoy the ride, there are a couple of humdinger twists that will leave you choked.
