Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011)
Love or another cliché
I recently saw this movie in Chandigarh with a bunch of my college friends, and I have to say Pyaar ka Punchnama is not only a psychometric evaluation of love, but also a view into a woman's psyche and a man's perception of a relationship. It starts with a bang with great dialogues and a nice build up, but fails to deliver in the end. But it touches a much taken for granted aspect of our generation, relationships and breakups and of-course the punchnama of what's in between.
The movie shows how the effects of a cupid's arrow disappear faster in guys then in girls. I give it a 7 for the concept of the movie is fresh and the first half is really good. The cast gives assured performances and the comic touches are genuine. But the end seems a bit implausible. With a bit more focus on the script, pace and definitely with a little twist in the end this movie would have made it big. But nonetheless it introduces some fresh face. Nushrat Bharucha is beautiful and talented her Telugu movie experience is definitely visible and the three guys Divyendu, Kartikeya and Rayo rocked their performances. Ban gya Kutta and Life sahi hai are catchy tracks but the music is more or less average.
So all in all if you want to see Pyar ka Punchnama catch it in a theater near you with a handful of friends and just have fun.
Godzilla (1998)
Childhood favourite monster
I saw Godzilla with my grandfather and my elder brother Abhinav in one of the cinemas in Shimla. It sure brings back some great childhood memories. With some brilliant special effects, good background score, nice performances and awesome cinematography it surely tops my list of favorite movies of all times. From the very beginning Godzilla was just meant to be enjoyed and not criticized. The action scenes are so well executed you can actually feel the chill run down your spine.
Matthew Broderick as Dr. Niko does some commendable job as a geek main lead. The romance between Maria Pitillo as Audrey and Dr. Niko is not over the top but it surely shows nice chemistry between the two of them. Jean Reno as Philippe, a french agent and Hank Azaria as Victor, the cameraman (The scene where victor almost gets stepped down by Godzilla was nail biting) add humor to the story. The one liners are good but there's a lot of situational comedy in the action scenes which makes you laugh. In the end one feels a bit pity for the giant being, clearly showing that the presentation can alter the perception.
With no obscenity or abusive language and no sex I would recommend Godzilla to all horror and action lover children and adult alike. The memory of this movie is etched in my memory forever. I am really unable to comprehend all the bad reviews that Godzilla got, but then to each his own.
