Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
Avatar meets never ending story
Super disappointing. After the bus fight scene things just got worse and worse. Once the flying dragon started flying around never ending story style it was over for me.
Marriage or Mortgage (2021)
Fun spin on love it or list it
Just like every other show that's like this, these "docu-series" are scripted, so nothing new there. This is fun and yes we all universally have to decide to either have the wedding of our dreams or buy a house, this show takes us on that journey and how it plays out for others.
Final Girl (2015)
Poor acting
This plot was intriguing but very poorly executed. The acting is very disappointing and there was way too much exposition. It's surprising that Breslin went from great acting in miss sunshine to this awkward forced plight. She seemed uncomfortable the entire movie and like she was always grasping for her lines. It gets 3 stars for potential and good plot... it's just completely undeveloped and poorly acted and makes one want to scream in frustration.
Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (2020)
Fun, cute, great acting and singing
Such a great break from the dark and violent and serious dramas of late. Makes you want to get up and dance and sing with the cast.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Great for a CBS show
This is pretty entertaining and it's a bonus that we already know and love many of the characters. Yes Picard is a bit different from his STNG era but given that life has happened and he's basically retired we should expect him to be a bit more settled. Granted, after about the 5th episode I was becoming a little angsty about his loss of fervor and repeated obsession with Data, but those doesn't take that much away from the overall enjoyment of the show. I especially like Elnor and how he teamed up with Seven of Nine. There are many different smaller story lines like the Borgs and also seven's story that can take off into really great segues. I'm also interested in the father-daughter undertones of the relationship between Picard and Soji. It's American TV so it comes with a lot of Melodrama and sometimes some over acting, like Rafi when she first entered the picture around episode 3. But if you keep an open mind and an eye toward nostalgia the show is loads of fun. Just don't expect this to be a direct pick up of where things left off decades ago with next generation. Despite the same characters it's different. It's almost like they didn't live those lives, like the time on next generation happened to other versions of them. But can't that be said for most of us and our pasts? I think the bad reviews are just snobby, people expecting this to be just like NG and Mad that it's more like real life AFTER NG.
Outlander (2014)
Romantic and brutal
I enjoy the romance between Claire and Jamie. Some of the scenes are overly brutal especially the violence against women. I understand during the times portrayed it was dangerous for women. But it seems a bit over the top. Also the scene of Randall brutalizing Jamie in inhumane and obscene ways while Jamie was imprisoned was just so sick and sadistic. Any person who experienced that would not be okay after and it definitely changed the dynamic between Claire and Jamie. Also, zippers weren't invented until the late 1800s so if they could do a little more research in that department it would increase the enjoyment and entertainment value. More research and less brutality.
