Severance (2022)
WOW!
Literally the best thing you're going to see in a long, long, long, long time.
Ultimately for fans of the Coen brothers and Lynch, to keep it simple. This resonates in the casting (Arquette, Turturro, Walken...)
The acting is flawless, the development is flawless, the cinematography is flawless. I think I had a heart attack when I found out Ben Stiller had significant involvement in this. Who knew this man has such a gift?
The season one culmination is really climactic, two huge cliffhangers for the penultimate and final episodes, only a year to wait for the nest season...
Miss this and miss out!
Meet Me in the Bathroom (2022)
Pure nostalgia
Absolutely brilliant doc. 11/10! And I wish it could've carried on forever. This doc is only relevant if you lived and loved this musical period. Arguably it would've been nice to show some a larger variety of bands from the time and area and given the Liars a little more exposure, but hey.
On a personal note, too much time spent with Karen O and the YYYs, and not enough Rapture.
I'm also wanting a whole doc on Casablancas' father! Well dodged by Julian when asked.
Additionay, I have no idea what these other reviews are talking about, if you don't like the bands and don't have a connection with the period, don't watch it. I don't like horror films, do you see me reviewing horror films and giving them 1 out of 10? No. Mindless.
Red Dead Redemption II (2018)
emotional damage
The greatest game ever made, to date. People giving this less than 10. V funny. It's a huge and rich open world RPG, of course its not perfect, what game is?
The horse controls and the controls in general, drive me absolutely crazy tbh. It's a PC game, so using a controller can be very testing.
As an XBOXer (ie someone who hasn't played the last of us), this is the most engaging and immersive game out there. The journey you undertake is brutal and heart breaking. Pure emotional damage when it finally draws to a close. Waiting to play the remastered version RDR1 again. Arthur is forever in our hearts and minds.
Elvis (2022)
'Baz'
What an utterly dreadful piece of incoherent nonsense. You could argue that this is a film of too halves, maybe someone got a conscience half way through editing and decided to act, I dunno...
the first half is just Baz Luhrmann, and the second half is a dramatised biopic that centres around the Vegas performances. If you're an Elvis fan, you get a little sentimental towards the end, and, ot be fair, the reinactment of the greatest performance alive is quite well done, but for the majority of the film i was sat there squirming, knowing I was watching one of the worst pieces of cinema I've ever laid eyes on, close to a B movie at times.
Realistically i could give this 3 out of 10, but I'll stick 1.
Decent acting overall by the way...
Dune (2021)
yawn fest...
It's boring, trite, listless... I could go on.
Another forgettable remake all in all, played very safe, and simply feels like a star wars film made by Disney.
The acting is decent enough. Cinematography isn't bad, but they could've done more.
Stick with the original.
Palm Springs (2020)
Actually really good!
Groundhog day 2020. VERY Samberg, and a good film all round.
Good cast, dialogue, narrative, cinematography etc etc.
Gravity (2013)
Cult B movie
Arguably one of the worst films I've ever seen. A B-movie with two A-listers in the lead roles. No narrative, just blow after blow of attempted suspense. pitiful.
Aquaman (2018)
Abysmal
Arguably one of the worst films I have ever seen in my entire life. a parody of itself, it would seem.
if you own more than two braincells, then this film probably isn't for you...
Trotskiy (2017)
This is a parody, right?
Absolutely shameful that this is on Netflix outside of the USSR.
I wouldn't wish the viewing of this series on my worst enemy.
Comical.
Mortal Engines (2018)
A post-apocalyptic piece of cinema
My god. what a horrible horrible film. a cinematic atrocity.
the premise of this film is great. the ingredients are all there and it's crying out to be a TV series. something that could eclipse GoT.
Alas, humanity has been gifted this ill thought through piece of uncohesive nonsense. really sad.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
More twists and turns, than a twisty turny thing...!
Based upon more recent offerings of the star wars variety, this one is a hit! Great dialogue, good acting, subtle on the quips, the usual array of action and killings.
Top drawer.
