Don't Run (2019)
Don't think about is as a horror movie.
This movie is low budget and it shows. But they made the most of it. This is a simple yet effective parable on living with anxiety. Main character is trapped throughout the movie. His house is inhabited by a monster making his life severely restricted. He is merely getting by instead of living his life. This is a cycle he can't break unless he changes something.
Under the Silver Lake (2018)
Engrossing and gross
This movie is both captivating and repulsive. The protagonist is not a sympathetic character. After his neighbor and love interest went missing, he goes on a journey to find her. This journey is filled with mysteries that he tries to solve. At the same time he ignores the real problems in his life that need to be solved.
The movie does a good job lampooning pop culture. The satire we see is not only about Hollywood, but also music and religion. It delves into conspiracy theories and the paranoia they bring. The director did a very good elaborate job in this lengthy film. But I'm not sure he wanted us to enjoy this film. He was probably trying to send a message. And its up to us to figure it out.
Stray Dolls (2019)
Sad, senseless journey
The story centers around two girls trying to escape the cycle of crime and poverty. The movie does a good job portraying the sense of despair. American dream is just an illusion and in some ways a trap. At times both girls appear sympathetic, but their actions are inexcusable. In the end, they dig themselves into much deeper hole out of which there's no escape.
Crypto (2019)
Well-paced, but plain movie
Not sure how to describe it. It's a thriller that lacks thrill. While acting is decent, there is not enough suspense to carry the movie. One positive aspect is the film's characters, which are very solid. Overall a simple movie, that many will find unworthy to watch.
Level 16 (2018)
Another Feminist Drivel
The movie plot seems like a mix between 'The Island' and 'The Handmaid's Tale. Acting is good. There is adequate amount of suspense to make it watchable. Other than that if follows the same feminist narrative we find in many current movies.
