Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Awful, Just Awful
Not much for me to say honestly, this movie was a slick, templated film with very superficial everything from the acting, to the editing to the dinosaur fights. This movie has no substance and is more like a 3 hour music video, without the music though.
Chris Pratt appears to always be in "velociraptor crouched trainer stance" like in every single scene. Not sure how that's even possible honestly but there's no acting effort on his part. Bryce Dallas Howard is decent but also, you can tell it's a dialed-in performance.
There's tons of easter eggs and homages to the original but at some point, you start to get the impression every homage is just a lack of creativity on the part of the current director / writers. Like all the scenes are basically a reboot of part 1 with these characters.
Avoid it like the plague. Go watch Guardians of the Galaxy or Terminal List instead.
Morbius (2022)
2 Hour Amateur CW episode
Talk about amateur directing, amateur scriptwriting. Back in my day, these were called "straight to video" titles. This movie has great special effects and that's about it.
Where they found such horrible writers and director is beyond me, but those people need to go back to the CW and direct a couple more episodes of Charmed before they allowed anywhere near major movies again. It's no wonder this flopped at the box office.
Dracula (2020)
Holy hell, this crash-landed pretty fast! So disappointing.
Ok - So I hadn't read any reviews or anything before watching this but Netflix is usually pretty solid when they decide to do good shows, kinda like how Disney rarely lets you down, well Netflix is *usually* pretty careful with their IP as well.
This is absolutely the contrary.
I love the Dracula character, always have, always will. I dressed up as Dracula like 5 Halloweens in a row as a kid. He's just badass and for that reason jumped right into this. I couldn't believe someone was re-making Dracula in our 4K, streaming world but it is much overdue.
First episode was stellar, absolute magic and set the tone nicely. Second one was a bit stranger and more cheesy but ok, I didn't hate it.
Third episode: What in the bloody hell? Completely different, silly, goofy comedic episode and the ending made absolutely NO sense whatsoever.
Very sad this was ruined but reading from the reviews now, I see these producers have a bad reputation for this. Disney, don't ever let these guys near your stuff!!! lol. Especially Marvel.
I Am Mother (2019)
What an incredible movie!
This movie is not your stereotypical Hollywood garbage and I suspect it will be another one of those movies the unintelligent masses don't comprehend and therefore give a bad rating to.
If you liked Ex-Machina or Annihilation you'll move likely find that you love this.
What makes it even better is that you've got a A-list actress in a supporting role, the writing is wonderful and the cinematography is absolutely excellent.
Please pay attention when watching, as it is definitely a cerebral thriller.
City of Life (2009)
Worth watching once! - Review may contain spoilers, not sure.
The movie is about intersecting lives in this city, much like Crash or Amores Perros, in the end it all comes together somehow.
I live in Dubai and quite enjoy it here... it is a place unlike no other on Earth. Funny thing is, there are certain "givens" or accepted truths and stereotypes about Dubai that this movie points out quite well. My favorite was the money-hungry Russian girl, sleeping around with anyone just to live a comfortable lifestyle, before coming to Dubai I truly believed this was an exaggeration from people but I've yet to meet one Russian girl that isn't this way and it makes the movie that much more accurate.
There are three main stories told: Indian taxi driver who wants a better life but just can't seem to get to that next step. (most taxi drivers in Dubai are either Indian or Pakistani) Eastern-European flight attendant - Pretty much most non-Russian girls I've met in Dubai are flight attendants for Emirates Airlines, so its no surprise this character is one as well. Again quite accurate portrayal of life in Dubai. Her best friend is an easy Russian chick looking to meet rich Arabs to continue her posh lifestyle.
Two young Emiratis (Arab) who come from money and live their wealthy lifestyle of partying and spending their parents cash.
You can imagine all very different lifestyles but this is the beauty of Dubai, it really does contain these characters. Heck, I felt like I was watching people I knew on screen. The movie is quite predictable in many ways but definitely still worth a watch, especially if you live or have been to Dubai.
Hachi: A Dog's Tale (2009)
Beautiful Movie - I am still in tears
I hardly ever write reviews as I feel that there are so many reviews out there, people don't read most of them.
After watching this however, I really felt the need to convey how touching this movie was. It is based on a true story of a dog that loves his owner so much... he never forgets him.
This is one of those movies that just stays with you. It is beautifully written, the music is absolutely wonderful. I couldn't stop thinking to myself how much I was enjoying the soundtrack. Richard Gere gives a wholesome performance and the rest of the cast are pretty good as well.
I highly recommend this movie to you, especially if you have young kids. I believe it can help them develop an appreciation for animals. This movie truly touched me. I broke down crying for the last 15 minutes or so and I am a grown man... this movie is excellent.
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
Most powerful and profound movie I have ever seen.
I dont know exactly what words to use to make anyone understand what I feel at this moment.
I am an agnostic person who was raised Catholic. I quit believing in any type of organized religion long, long ago.
Reading dry biblical text out of the Bible, and seeing it in on a big screen are 2 completely different things. I had tears running down my face while watching this and almost, even walked out of the film due to its extremely violent content. But dont misunderstand, I wouldnt be walking out of the movie because it was bad. Think of it in more of the same way a parent cant bear to see their child killed before their very eyes. Basically, I did not want to accept the grim reality.
Jesus Christ was a real human being. This really happened to him. Thanks to this movie my life has changed. I had forgotten what Jesus did for us.
Now, dont think I am going to run off to my local church and accept everything that it tells me as "truth". But I will be a better person after this. I will have a good heart, I have already repent for my sins. I remember thinking what a horrible human being I am. I dont know, this movie just made an everlasting impact on my life.
It is an amazing film. Kudos to Mel Gibson, you are a king amongst men.
I give this movie a 10 out of 10. It is an excellent piece of work.
