Stardust (2007)
spectacular!
"Stardust" is simply, timeless. There really aren't many current fantasy type movies that can hold a star to it... er, candle. Everything about it is sheer genius. There wasn't really much character development, but the acting made up for it. From the very beginning, it grabbed my attention and just kept going for the whole two hours. It's a movie you can watch over and over again and see something new every time. It made me laugh at, fear for and fall in love with the movie! I went in expecting nothing and came out shining. I can't wait for Stardust to come out on DVD, but till then, another $8.00 will be worth it to see in the theater a 2nd and maybe 3rd time. Watching the characters evolve was my favorite thing about the movie. And the ending couldn't have been better. Stardust is my now my second favorite movie, "Amelie'" being my first.
Enduring Love (2004)
Horrible!
I wish I could give this awful film a zero. It deserves it. Reading the box: it looked like an interesting and good movie. About 40 minutes into the movie I just couldn't take it anymore... skipping a few things, seeing all the gore. It is really a bad, bad, bad movie. I wish I could get the time and money I wasted on it back. There really are no words to describe just how much I disliked the movie. My boyfriend will sit through nearly anything... he gave up after 20 minutes. I'm jealous, I should have been smart enough to. I don't really know what else to say about the film. I'm into depressing drama, like the English patient, American beauty, even maria full of grace for crying out loud! Really, Enduring Love does nothing to keep a person interested. It's boring... boring... boring!!!
Firefly (2002)
Simply awesome
I absolutely love Firefly! I am so sad that FOX canceled the show and every time I think of or watch the episodes I feel lonely for more. Firefly is without a doubt THE best show I have ever seen! The characters are interesting, the plot is fantastic and it keeps you begging for more! I can only hope that someday Firefly will be revived... Star Trek didn't make it its 1st season either.
Our heroes practically beg for trouble, they are rebels who aren't afraid to get dusty, shoot guns or punch villains. There is a lot of truth in the show, and it probably caused a lot of controversy too. Our heroes are freedom fighters seeking truth and adventure. There is something uniquely distinct and deep about each character that makes you want to look into each of their minds. Even Jayne has a soft heart, which once in awhile shines.
A space cowboys, gun slinging', great time! If you haven't seen Firefly, do!

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity. You can't take the sky from me.
Sideways (2004)
Alive, full of taste, extracting the juice.
I went to see "Sideways" on a hunch from my SO. This is definitely not a movie for everyone, but it was for me. I will be buying the DVD when it comes out.
I loved this movie; it was filled with emotion that actually meant something. Taking wine and trying to make a film out of the people that it affects was brilliant, pulling it off was even more brilliant. I think you have to have at least some kind of connection with wine terminology to enjoy "Sideways", but I think almost everyone can enjoy it if they've ever been in that depressed lake that alcohol, divorce and love can make you drown in. We make mistakes, we get drunk, we drive drunk and then a naked fat tow truck driver almost kills us. "Sideways" is filled with the kind of humor that makes us think about what we've done and what we will do... who we've hurt and who has hurt us. But most of all, "Sideways" takes the sadness that so lies within our daily experiences and turns them into a magic that is... getting the juices of grapes between your toes :P
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)
better to just watch the preview
This movie was so dull I almost walked out. I was itching for "The Life Aquatic" to end so that I could go home and forget about how long I had been waiting for the film to come out. The only reason I have rated this film as a 4 is because I was sucked into it by the preview.
I loved the preview (all good parts of the movie are in the preview) from the first time I'd seen it, and so I made the 1+ month long wait visiting The Life Aquatic website to satisfy my tastes so that I could get through a few weeks. Bill has always impressed me with his acting and spirit, but I found The Life Aquatic to be boring and dull, lacking any kind of enthusiasm
or for that matter, life itself.
I wanted depth, comedy, quaint clay effects and a good time... what I got was a soda without the carbonation.
Life should not be dull, yes we have our ups and downs, but do we have to emphasize our tragedies through lackluster displays of grimy, muddy, depressed and spiritless films? Yuck.
The Five People You Meet in Heaven (2004)
there are very few movies that can make my b/f cry- we were both bawling
My boyfriend brought home this DVD 2 days ago... I really didn't think it was possible to make a good movie out of "The Five People You Meet in Heaven", but I was proved wrong. It was actually very good, I liked the no-name actors that they picked, and Marguerite was gorgeous. This movie was so emotional and full of beauty that both my boyfriend and me were getting out the tissues to soak up our tears. The only things I can complain about are some of the "special effects" they use in the backgrounds (especially at the end of Eddie's meeting with his 2nd person- you know what I'm talking about). Also, "the blue man" had quite the accent (more funny then bad in my opinion).
Overall, "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" was great for being a hallmark movie. Heck, it was good anyway. It was nice to have a change in movies to something more heartfelt.
Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003)
Not even worth 20 minutes
Okay, I'd wanted to see `Once Upon a Time in Mexico' since it came out, but hadn't had the time to watch it. boy, am I glad!
This was quite literally the worst film Johnny Depp and Antonio Banderas have EVER done!
First off, I rented it, and had forgotten I had it, so late charges were piling up. I figured I'd better watch it since I was already paying $7 for it. It may have just been that I was tired, but I could not follow `Once Upon a Time in Mexico' all at! Guns were shooting and bullets were flying, and there seemed to be no real point to it at all. What a horrible disappointment after seeing `Desperado' which happens to be a great movie!
After 20 minutes of nonsense shooting, that wasn't even done well, I decided to take the movie back. I was tempted to use the DVD as a Frisbee while I was driving to return it, but unfortunately, I knew better.
Do yourself a favor and don't waste a penny on `Once Upon a Time in Mexico'. if one of your friends has rented it, well, sit awhile and see what I'm talking about. this movie is a piece of crap, not intended for human consumption!
Secondhand Lions (2003)
a feel great movie!
Secondhand Lions is the best movie I'm seen since Amelie! I didn't want it to end! It was a very "feel great" movie and left me with a warm feeling in my heart when it was over.
Michael Caine and Robert Duvall give a great performance... Haley Joel Osment has a bit of a squeaky kid voice, but it only adds to his character.
Generally, Secondhand Lions is a wonderful family movie for all ages. And I recommend it to all people who need a good laugh, and a warm heart.
P.S. Worth owning on DVD too!
What Dreams May Come (1998)
Wonderful!
It's hard for me to believe this movie didn't get higher ratings, after all, who can REALLY explain death? Depressing, sometimes. But over all, this is for people who know true love and know what it is like to have children.
I loved "What Dreams May Come"... its shows the true beauty of existing :)
Wrong Turn (2003)
Strangely entertaining... gross but fun!
Wrong turn was better then I thought it would be! The acting was actually pretty great. and the gore was wonderful. It was so disgusting some people actually walked out- lol Desmond Harrington (who plays Chris Finn) is a total bad-ass hottie in `Wrong turn'! ************Possible spoilers*********** First Chris gets his leg shot by the cannibal inbred hicks and loses about a quart of blood or more, he manages to jump out of trees and kill cannibals in a single bound, as well as hitch rides underneath police vehicles! This guy kicks some serious booty! The only thing that might have been changed is when the cannibals kidnap Jess, they could have made it more awful and had them impregnate her or something to leave it open for a sequel (if you are going to leave it open for a sequel, might as well make it worthwhile). ************end of possible spoilers*********
Anyway, enough spoiling the film. if you'd like a well acted gory, disgusting cannibalistic and entertaining film, then go see it! If you are weak stomached and/or your kids want to see it, please, do them and/or yourself a favor and skip it.

Finding Nemo (2003)
Fun film, entertaining, worth the 8 bucks
I thought it was worth the $8.00... very entertaining, many laughs & smiles. Probably Pixar's best film ever! I thought for sure it was going to be dumb, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Go take the kids to see it, and even if you don't have kids, see it anyway! I loved the movie... the only downside is that computer animation is a little hard to watch for 2 hours.

Pleasantville (1998)
Wonderful!!!
Anyone who doesn't like this movie must have something wrong with him or her, or at least have nothing artistic inside of them at all.
Pleasantville is an enduring and priceless movie that shows the true side of people and the way that people treat each other, it displays love, jealousy, friendship, intelligence, stupidity, fear of change and total innocence (along with other emotions)... it is quite simply, one of the best movies I have ever seen and is on my top ten favorites list. Great acting, laughs, tears, humility.... LIFE.
See this movie, you won't regret it!
