The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
What a Thrill!
OK, the movie is cheesy, the acting over-dramatic and the sound effects corny, but I love this movie. I first saw it 20 years ago at a midnight showing in Seattle and it was the best night of my life. I didn't know what to expect, but my best friend said it would be great - just watch out for the flying toast?! When I saw the elevator descending and that high heel thumping to the beat, I found myself on the edge of my seat in great antica........pation. When it came out on video, I immediately bought it. Today my 2 daughters love to watch TRHPS, and I can't wait to take them to a showing where they can really experience the audience participation. It's true that it might not be a movie for some people, but for me, it's entertaining, fun and I can't help but smile (and sing) throughout the movie. The facial expression of Frankenfurter makes the whole movie. I wish he didn't have to die at the end so they could make a sequel, with Tim Curry of course. It's definitely a one of a kind, cult classic that I will never get tired of watching.
13 Seconds (2003)
Did scare me - a little
I just got done watching 13 Sec. and I can say that it did have some good qualities for a B horror flick. I do agree with most of the people who have commented about this movie. The acting was very wooden, like they were all 1st year acting students and still didn't know what to do. The girl with the long red hair (forgive me, I don't remember most of their names) went throughout the whole movie acting, as well as looking, like she was 'totally wasted'and could really care less about what was going on. After all of the horrifying things she'd witnessed, you'd think that she would show a little fear. The other girl always looked like she was confused and/or suffering from a horrible headache. Davis acted as if he was trying to channel Emilio Estevez with his expressions and acting, and even then he only expressed one emotion throughout the whole film - confused/anger (except for his one tearful scene, and it wasn't very impressive). The rest of the group were pretty wooden and emotionless much of the time, and seemed to go through the movie like they were sleepwalking. I do feel that the actors did try though, at least at the beginning of the movie. But somewhere down the line they seemed to just get bored with the whole thing. The editing wasn't very smooth, the story severely lacking and the sound quality kept going up and down. Now what I did enjoy was the creepiness of the film. Aside from the fact that all of the characters were complete idiots, and firmly believe that all rattling doors should be opened and dark spaces explored, I got creeped out. I guess it would be because of the 'bad guys' that were sneaking around, and the setting they were in. When I see a masked person, heading shaking vigorously and holding an ax, standing behind an unsuspecting victim, I get a little tense. This movie had enough of those moments to keep me watching - and make me jump a couple of times. I also will admit that I liked the twist at the end. I want to say that I am a big horror fan and love to get the $%^t scared out of me, and since this movie accomplished a little bit of that, I'll give it 4 out of 10. It would've been a 2 had it not.
Frost: Portrait of a Vampire (2003)
I should've listened to all of you
Oh my God!! Everyone was right - Frost is a horrible movie. I found it last night at the rental place and decided to give it a try. Once I got home I checked out IMDB for comments and got very concerned, but decided to try it anyway. Let's just say I fell asleep half way through. The acting was so horrible that it made me wonder if the director went out in the streets, asked the first person he saw "Have you ever acted before?" and when the person replied "No" he said "You're hired!!" I've seen better acting in porno movies! And my big question is after Nat got bit and they fast foward 1 year (it did say 1 year on the screen) how did his hair get so long!! I wish my hair would grow that fast in a year. And I thought Vampire couldn't walk in the daylight?! Maybe I missed that explaination at the end?! This is a horrible, pointless movie that couldn't scare me if it really tried. If you can avoid, please do so.
