Painful to Watch
26 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
So, this was just a bad film all around. Literally the only redeeming thing about this movie, the lead, she was at least a decent actress. That said, there are a few points I would like to bring up to the film's director that may help in future endeavors: 1) When crafting a film that features a killer played by one of the potentially most scary people in the business, it helps to create an air of mystery around his character. This adds menace and anticipation to the role and makes for a much more suspenseful film. The problems became apparent in the opening scene. The first mistake, showing the antagonist's face in the opening scene, by doing this, you immediately erase any possible buildup of menace. If this character has been murdering women for who knows how long, rather than showing his face, perhaps, while the phone call is progressing, show missing persons flyers of his victims while obscuring his face.

2) Showing his face in the opening, then inexplicably going into first person from his view made no sense. If you're going to have a fully visible and known killer, stick to third person, low angles, all of the high angles of the killer and first person killed the purpose of the film.

3) In the office confrontation scene, why was the main character crawling on hands and knees through glass WHILE calling out the killer's name? If she wanted to confront him, she could have easily just stood up rather than unnecessarily ran her hands over broken glass...

4) Finally, continuity is the key to good film making. Once the power is out and the characters use the stairs to go fix the power box, the elevator working made no sense. I understand that it was the central point of that scene, but even mentioning that it was on backup would have alleviated any issues I had.

Joker Rising (2013)

Low-budget, What else do you expect?
17 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not entirely sure exactly how so many people have been gushing over this on YouTube, but this entirely missed the mark in my opinion. Firstly, calling the city "Gotham", then filming entirely in palm tree infested California is distracting to say the least. Then there's the writing, the most familiar lines were pulled directly out of The Dark Knight. The Riddle... sorry, "Riddles", is a pimp that just happens to spout off some terrible "riddle" when he tries to attack the Jok... Dang, I mean "Cyrus", that goes something like, "What's covered in scales and full of metal? A stuck fish". Oh yeah, and "Harley" is an iPhone 4 carrying hooker that dies before he even becomes the Joker.

I watched this because of all the glowing reviews on YouTube, but now I'm starting to think that none of them have ever actually been formally introduced to the genius that is the Batman universe.

The best thing I can say is that for $3,000 and 8 days of filming, I guess this is better than some other independent fare as far as the actual cinematography goes...

I mean no disrespect to the filmmakers, I simply must say that as a life long fan of anything Batman, this was very disappointing.

It is obvious to me that the people in charge of promoting this movie have sent people to down rate my review. I assure anyone taking this into consideration that watching will be a waste of time and that my review is wholly accurate. Keep sending people to down rate my review, it doesn't make your film any better.

Dark Space (2013)

Low-budget, low-quality.
6 July 2013
This will be a short review, the only other review here seems like it must be someone related to the film, because they gave it a completely undeserving, glowing review. The acting was terrible, the writing was atrocious, the effects were, how shall I put this, I've seen better effects in "Asylum" made movies, which, until now, I believed to have the worst SE team in the business.

The characters were all white stereotypes, the "strong" white woman, the "hippie" white chick ("The universe will take care of us"), the paranoid white girl friend of the strong one, the super-scared nerd, the more manly nerd that lusts after strong white woman, and finally, the d-bag chauvinist.

Nothing like seeing some Halo armor wearing rip-off alien shooting a scoped sniper rifle from the hip.

Amber Alert (2012)

Seriously Annoying, Seriously Bad.
3 January 2013
So the people that made this film obviously had all of the original reviews removed to make themselves look better, too bad I can just keep making reviews. The truth about this movie is that it had a good premise, all that it was missing were decent writing and actors. This movie starts out looking like a film student's first shot at a full length feature and leaves you wondering why you ever thought watching it was a good idea. The two main characters are just plain annoying and have little to no creative acting ability. I found myself thinking that if I wanted to be bickered at by my most annoying ex-girlfriend for a couple of hours, I could have just made a phone call instead of paying for the ticket to this movie.

I hate having to be this awful, but I have to say that Summer Bellessa has no business in front of a camera. She's pretty, but really, I don't see how anyone can listen to that voice without going brain dead. What really took the cake as far as my bad review goes were the actions and reactions in the last 25 minutes of the film. Any random moron off the street would have made better decisions than these main characters, that is what really shows that the writers just either phoned this in, or should not be writers.

In a nutshell, amateurish, poorly written, insufferably annoying, and poorly acted.
