Please don'e be stupid
4 August 2014
I say stupid because some people go to see this movie expecting a deep film! What will they get? nothing but disappointment.

I movie is, and supposed to be, a mindless explosive fun action blockbuster. It delivers all that you want from such a film, close combats, gun fights, explosions, etc.

The humour is funny as was the case with the other two versions. The story is more interesting than the other two, and introduces some new characters (though somewhat shallow).

Performances are fine for an action movie. I specially admire Statham's acting. Maybe the only one a little bit behind in this respect is Randy Couture, who is after all a UFC fighter.

A drawback of this movie may be its CGI effects. They could do a better job on that.

All in all, The Expendables 3 is a great action movie that will satisfy those who watch it for what it is.

My score: 6/10

Scott Adkins has to be more picky in his choice of movies
23 October 2013
First of all, I have to say that I haven't seen the first two movies, and I don't know if I have missed anything. But if you deem this one a autonomous movie, then I can say a few points about it.

Regarding the story, it is your everyday martial arts movie story. Our hero's brother is murdered in a tournament (firm!!!), and the hero enters the tournament and avenges his brother. I don't think I can even this review as containing a spoiler, because this kind of story has been known and predictable since the good old days of Bruce Lee.

But there are many plot holes. We don't know what's the point of the fight at the beginning of the movie. We don't know why the two police officers release Scott. and some other "we don't know"s.

Scott Adkins' acting is acceptable, though not an Al Pacino. The guy who plays his kinda fat friend, though, outdoes Scott in acting. The saucy girl who is done by Scott wasn't bad either, she was, however, casted for something else as you know, not for her acting.

Regarding the fight scenes, we have almost none of them till the middle of the movie (except for the short meaningless fight at the beginning of the film). The final fight is surely the best one in the whole movie.

All in all, it's quite an average flick, but Scott can be very higher than that. I hope he gets more picky in his choice of movies and makes better ones in the future with all the talent we know of him. Good Luck everyone. my Score: 5/10

Great adaptation, The only flaw is what all of us know: "Prospera".
1 September 2012
To give a review about any Shakespearian adaptation, we must begin with the faithfulness of the movie.

This movie is completely faithful to the play and has all the major points of the plot. The dialogue is also Shakespearian and again faithful (except the parts that have to be changed because of "Prospera"). All in all, this movie conveys the spirit of Shakespeare's play.

And I loved the comic scenes with Trinculo, "King" Stephano :D and Caliban. They really made me laugh in a scene when the third meets the first two.

The only flaw is what all of us know. Why should Prospero become Prospera???!!! That is the question that can't be answered easily. That may be because the director is a woman and wants to show "Female Authority" (a term used frequently in Feminist texts). Because of this change of gender, some dialogues have to be changed too. And of course the mother/daughter relation is different from Father/daughter. That is, I believe, the only flaw in this movie (making my score 8 rather than 10).

Other than this, everything is perfect.

My Score: 8/10

Depends on your expectation, I was delighted to watch it.
26 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
First of all it should be noted that the way you see this movie depends on your expectations. People who say it was an awful movie, plot less, only mindless action, bad acting and things like this, may have expected a "Se7en" from "The Expendables 2" !!! That would be quite wrong. You should watch it as an "ACTION" movie, the name explains everything.

well, Let's start with the story. It's almost the same as the first one. At the beginning we see the expendables on a mission that lays the background for the movie. Then They receive a job offer from Mr. Church and at the end, they complete this mission (sounds like the first one, huh? Just their mission is different here). A good story for an action movie like this.

Acting is good here. I specially liked Statham's acting. He's really deep into his character. Others like Van Damme and Adkins are good too.

And the Action scenes: Well, after beginning to watch this movie with a friend, we began laughing after 15minutes, because all is killing and nothing else. Most fights are using gun in this movie (or Mindless Action as some people like to call it). There are also some hand-to-hand fights throughout the movie, all fairly well-choreographed.

And the two Climax fights: The fight between Adkins and Statham could be better, they both have great talents, not displayed superbly in this fight. and the second fight, between Our Old Frankie and Mr. Rambo: It was a great fight, some reviewers say that it was too short, but it wasn't. It was long enough and well choreographed (and I guess you know who as the winner?).

Others like Arnie, Willis, and Norris were good in their fairly short screen time.

All in all, It was a dream come true to see our old action heroes like Arnie, Stallone, Van damme, Willis, etc. together with younger ones like Jet Li, Adkins and Statham in one movie.

A very fun movie to watch. My Score: 8/10

"The Man" is more a Rambo than a Boyka
15 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I had been waiting for this movie for a while. But now that I've seen it, I'm disappointed. But that may not be the case with you. So read on.

Well, Let's Start with the Storyline. The Story is nothing original. We have seen it in many movies. A man goes to a city. The people of that city are under the Tyranny of a leader. and he Frees them from that ruler. I'm sure right now you can remember at list 10 movies with such a story (though each one has a few twists). That's the plot.

The acting is normal. But that doesn't matter. After all, Who watches an action movie (I mean a movie with such actors as Scott Adkins, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Gary Daniels, etc.) for its acting? I guess no-one. Plot and action scenes are what matter in such a movie. Acting comes after them.

So Let's go on with the Fight scenes. Scott Adkins' Character Called "The Man", "El Gringo" or "The Gringo" is nothing like the most famous Adkins' character, Boyka (Undisputed II and III). He's rather a Rambo for two reasons. First is that he defeats a huge gang alone (rather funny, Just as Rambo does, all of them wait until he shots them). And the Second is his fighting style. 95% of his fighting consists of punching. and he throws only a few kicks throughout the movie, only one of which is a Boyka-Style kick (a two-legged Front Kick). If you're expecting Boyka-type fighting style in this movie, you'll surely be disappointed. But If you like Stallone movies (specially Rambo), You'll enjoy this one. My Score: 4/10

One of the best martial arts movies
1 March 2011
All of movie fans know that there are few movies every year (or maybe every decade) that you can watch more that one time. but i think it's one of them.

this is the first movie that Donnie yen has played a major role. I am a huge fan of Donnie's and have seen almost all his movies. I can say that this is one of his bests.

The plot is a simple yet functional and interesting one. action scenes are really good and well choreographed. and comedy is also good. it's very difficult to use comedy that can make people with different cultures laugh. but this movie does it. I really laughed at many scenes.

If you are an action fan, martial arts fan, Donnie yen fan or even comedy, never miss this movie.

I give it 10 out of 10 because it's one of the best movies I've seen.

one of the most boring movies of all time
15 February 2011
I don't know where to start I'm a big fan of action and specially martial arts movies but this one was a real disappointment. I heard that tony Jaa is a good actor with high martial arts skills and I had seen tom yum goong (the protector), although protector was not a bad movie but this one was really poor. there is no plot here, just fighting after fighting and it really bores everyone. even the fights are not the way that keeps you excited. I recommend you If you wanna see an action martial arts movie, see cradle 2: the grave from jet li and mark dacascos. or any other jet Li , Jackie Chan, jean-Claude van Damme movies, but not Tony Jaa's. I give it 2/10 just for some of the fight scenes that are NOT BAD.
