Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Everything is wrong with it
This movie represents everything that's wrong with people these days. If it's a kid's movie, it's unbearably lengthy and has a disturbing narrative. If it's for adults, it's no more than a boring kid's cartoon that would rather die than take a joke on itself.
The whole thing is based on the idea that evil humanity needs to burn down the blue-skinned humanoids living in perfect natural harmony in their homeland. There is a tiny but bright and woken-up humankind minority that chooses to live with the blue-skinned humanoids in their native Middle Stone Age community. And unless humans choose to live like our mesolithic ancestors, we are taught to believe they are nothing more than a militarised technological evil. To make things believable, the blue-skinned humanoids talk, behave and react like New York climate activists of the year 2023 from the planet Earth.
It's empty, stupid, incredibly long, founded on anti-common sense, narcissistic ideas so popular today. What a comfortable way to win praise in the modern-day press.
A Monster Calls (2016)
We've just discovered this gem and we are blown away.
In pursuit of finding some good quality family entertainment, we've come across this one. Even though it appeared to be too complex for our 7-year-old, we were blown away by the beauty of this storytelling. It's such a work of art. The way it manages to tell the story of a young boy's struggle strikes you to the bones. You will cry. And you'll want to hug your kids more than ever. It's a visual storytelling masterpiece. It's also a financial failure. Nobody wants films like this - this is so sad and makes this movie even more valuable to the thinking audience.
